How 'bout those Blackhawks?

:stickpoke

Yeah, I'm not really a sports fan. But I did happen to notice that the Blackhawks are playing the Flyers for the Stanley cup.

classicman 06-01-2010 03:47 PM

Ugghh. Yeh yeh

wolf 06-02-2010 12:16 AM

Yeah, baby.

I'm having a difficult time at work.

I am a native Pennsylvanian, however, I was raised in the Chicago suburbs, and formed my sports team allegiances there. I loves my 'hawks. May risk wearing jersey to work if they take home Lord Stanley's Cup. I think I might have a car flag in the trunk, but I don't want to get my tires slashed.

That was some amazing goaltending last night.

When I came in today I was talking to the ambulance crew chief. "Whatcha doin', wolf?"

"Trying hard not to gloat, Ant."

"Gloat about what?"

I then pointed to a newspaper front page of the Flyers.

"Oh," he said.

End of conversation. Probably until the Cup games are over.

Problem is, I won't be able to watch the next two games, since for whatever stupid reason they aren't on broadcast TV. How dumb is that?? Supposedly they're trying to increase viewership for hockey, so the best way do that is to run the games on an obscure cable station? Yeah, ok, sure.

chin2boy 06-02-2010 06:22 AM

OH REALLY
I LIKE TO FIGHT MARTIAL ARTS. WOULD YOU JOIN ME?

lumberjim 06-02-2010 10:46 PM

Not a big Hockey fan here either, but the Flyers just won in OT 4-3. So I suppose I should say.....In your face, Pete!

classicman 06-03-2010 08:46 AM

Actually, it was another GREAT hockey game. Thats three in the Stanley cup! The final games in any sport aren't always this way. Its been most enjoyable to watch. The speed of the hawks and the resilience of the Flyers has made for a very good battle. The hitting still continues - man there were some shots away from the puck last night

lumberjim 06-04-2010 10:20 PM

oh, pete..... I'm sorry..... but your face.....we're all up in it again.

So you are. So you are. The hawks better get busy.

wolf 06-05-2010 01:06 AM

United Center on Sunday night. Should be exciting.

Spexxvet 06-05-2010 08:19 AM

Go Fly Boys!

classicman 06-05-2010 12:13 PM

For the most part, not as good a game a the first three, but buy did the B-hawks make it interesting late. Now its a race to two!!!!

Nirvana 06-06-2010 07:45 PM

I truly know I am annoying sorry! but do doo da doo da da doo dee doo da do SCORE!

classicman 06-06-2010 09:17 PM

Not annoying at all - just a fan. Revel in and enjoy it. Thats what being a fan is.

On another note - this is the first game of the series that hasn't really looked like a game at all.

Damn that lineup change is causing all sorts of problems for the Flyers and the B-hawks are looking more than scary - again.

Nirvana 06-06-2010 09:46 PM

I don't even like hockey but this series is OMG awesome SCORE!

lumberjim 06-06-2010 09:48 PM

that'll do it. see you in philly on wednesday night

Nirvana 06-06-2010 09:49 PM

:eek::D

Pete Zicato 06-06-2010 10:39 PM

I watched my first hockey game tonight. I chose a good one to start with. :D

Man. That's some brutal game. That slamming-the-other-player-into-the-wall thing doesn't seem to be against the rules.

Nirvana 06-06-2010 11:03 PM

That was a great game huh? I almost want to go to one!

wolf 06-06-2010 11:17 PM

I am trying to decide whether to wear my Hawks jersey to work on Wednesday night, or keep it in the briefcase and put it on following the victory.

classicman 06-07-2010 07:50 AM

Pete - That was the worst game of the series and not because the Flyers lost. It was just not a game at all after the first 15 minutes.
The "checking" of players against the boards, or anywhere else, is one of the great things about hockey.

Last night was a do-or-die game for the B-hawks and they played like it. Switching up their first line made a huge difference. It will be interesting to see what Philly does to try and counter that. Wed. is the Flyers do-or-die game. Should be interesting!

Don't count your chickens yet.

The Flyers looked tired last night. The extra day's rest will help.

classicman 06-09-2010 10:07 PM

Congrats to the Blackhawks. They played like the champions they now are.

Philadelphia Bride's Maids

This is why I'm a Cowboys fan

Pete Zicato 06-09-2010 10:43 PM

I really thought it was going to go to another game. I couldn't believe that last goal.

freshnesschronic 06-09-2010 10:45 PM

BLACKHAWKS WON! GO CHICAGO SPORTS!

bluecuracao 06-09-2010 11:36 PM

I've never watched so much hockey in my entire life. Thank god it's over.

wolf 06-09-2010 11:55 PM

Whoop! Go 'hawks. I'm wearing my jersey to work tomorrow!!

That last goal was something!

Darn them for making me bite my nails into OT, though.

Nirvana 06-10-2010 12:10 AM

I had to listen to it on the radio. We were breeding cows. Since I had my arm in a glove up a cows a$$ I couldn't bite my nails ;)

Just sayin'

wolf 06-10-2010 01:02 AM

I'm sure the cow appreciated that.

monster 06-10-2010 10:04 AM

so you were Orking, then, Nirvana?

Nirvana 06-10-2010 11:38 AM

so that's what cow orking means ;)

wolf 06-11-2010 01:18 AM

Wearing the 'hawks jersey went surprisingly well. I was accosted by an elderly man in the parking lot of my apt, but I was able to settle him down before he beat me up. Trip into the convenience store was without incident, but my regular counter guy wasn't on. Then work ... a lot of not at all veiled hostility. And I had to wear a bib when I ate dinner ... didn't want to drip soy sauce onto all of that embroidery.

classicman 06-11-2010 08:38 AM

I'd like to say that was THE MOST ENTERTAINING Stanley Cup series I may have ever watched. Yes, I'm bummed that the Flyers lost, but considering what they went through this/last season and how well they did...
Great hockey right up until the end.

Agreed. And it was interesting seeing the difference in styles. The Flyers retain a touch of the aggressive Broad Street Bullies type of hockey ... move fast, hit fast, but the 'hawks have a more,I dunno, rational? style? And the ability to move a puck through the fourth dimension into the net doesn't hurt, either. mormorwolf was a Kane, you know. Always a bit of magick there ...

The Flyers had to play a hard hitting game to try and slow down the B-Hawks. The Flyers game-plan to stop the hawks was to hit them at the blue line and consistently hit them every time they touched the puck. The game was dramatically different when the hawks skated into the Flyers zone unimpeded until the circle. They skated the puck in deep and then the next wave of players were able to enter, creating many chances & shots.

I loved watching the playoffs. Now all I got is 2 months of baseball :greenface My least favorite sport. Too slow, too long, too boring.

I take that back - watching golf is worse.

Baseball is wonderful. A great sport for relaxing to with beer, and a high speed internet connection. Of course, I rarely have the opportunity to see 'my' team play, and I'm too cheap to buy the MLB channel package.

There's always competitive paint drying. And grass growing.

I don't get the wealth of Texas Hold 'Em poker tournaments.

Golf is at least interesting for people who play golf, although I suspect that most of them watch thinking, "I could sink that putt he just missed."

Wimbeldon is coming. I saw a commercial. Get the strawberries and cream ready.

For me, it's more like "how the fuck did he make that shot? I wish I could play like that"
