Our new place

So, yeah, we have moved more times in the past 6 years than most people move their whole lives. But this is our latest. Just got everything toted over here last week and in the process of still unpacking and putting stuff where it will go for the next 2-24 months (who knows, right?)

Nope, that is not it, but it is on the property.

The farmhouse. It needs paint, but it will get it soon.

I like the way the barn leans like that...I hope that doesn't mean it is going to fall on someone.

Cool water feature, when it is running.

Kitchen. It must be pretty cool, because God seems to be peeking in to check it out.

That's a great house for a party!

Where is the art studio?

skysidhe 05-05-2010 12:37 AM

That staircase is amazing.

It's a great house! It's the kind of house that novels are fashioned around :)

I am happy for you. :D

lumberjim 05-05-2010 01:02 AM

wow, case. that's awesome...

looks like it will be easy to be happy there.

Cicero 05-05-2010 01:56 AM

It's gorgeous.

wonderful!! Love all the room and the gorgeous staircases and windows and the COOL BARN!!!

glatt 05-05-2010 08:29 AM

Wait a second, and this place is cheaper than the old place? How is that possible? It's freaking awesome!

classicman 05-05-2010 01:56 PM

That place is stunning! I love the staircase, railing and arched/angled/rounded hallway on the second floor.

squirell nutkin 05-05-2010 02:55 PM

That is an amazing place! Wow. Really nice.

dmg1969 05-05-2010 03:12 PM

Great new digs! Congrats!

kerosene 05-05-2010 05:17 PM

I have no idea why it is cheaper. Doesn't make any sense to me.

This place does rock. HLJ, the studio is upstairs in my sewing room.

squirell nutkin 05-05-2010 07:03 PM

Just noticed the relatively tiny baseboard heaters for the spacious and open floor plan.

That may explain the lower cost if you have cold winters.

Hoping that baseboard is hot water and not electric, hoping there is a wood stove in the house and or a lot of insulation.

glatt 05-05-2010 07:25 PM

Looks like it's right on the edge. In the Country with the suburbs just a stone's throw away. Is it a decent location?

morethanpretty 05-05-2010 08:18 PM

Oh shit! It must be haunted then...well maybe they're friendly ghosts.

Seriously, that place is absolutely beautiful. Looks like a great find.

monster 05-05-2010 09:42 PM

So case, we're looking at arriving August 1st and staying fr about two weeks. Do you think you could make sure you've added the slide to the outside of thet staircase as per the cool stair railing thread?

Heat is a boiler system. I guess it is radiant baseboard heat? It is powered by propane (!!!) Those baseboard things are all over the house and yes, it has been completely re-insulated. Unfortunately, there is no fireplace or wood stove to help offset the cost of propane in the winter. Get this, Easterners....there is *no central air*. Lol. Alot of houses here don't have it. We do have a whole house fan and there are some shade trees that should help. I also have to come up with some fancy ideas for window coverings as there are none.

Yes, I imagine it is haunted. I mean, the house is old as dirt.

The slide is due next week, monster...start packing!

toranokaze 05-06-2010 01:11 PM

I have seen fans do a great job and a white roof, good weather striping and insulation help a lot too. But you have a wonderful looking house there case.

glatt 05-06-2010 01:58 PM

You don't need central AC there.

In Ft Collins CO, in July, the average high is 87 during the day, and the average low at night is 56. Just air it out at night with that whole house fan and seal it up during the day when the temps outside climb higher than inside.

kerosene 05-06-2010 06:07 PM

You are right, Glatt. I have lived many places with no AC. It is nice to have for the really hot days, but most days it is superfluous. 2 story houses are a little more difficult to keep cool in the summer, but I am thinking fan at night and shut all windows and shades during the day will do the trick.

Thanks for sharing in my joy with this new place. I am still looking for the fine print, but it must be something about contractors being around alot of the time, working on the property and right now, still working on the house. Anyway, we are enjoying it so far!

skysidhe 05-08-2010 01:54 AM

In a house that big with the upper windows open at night I think it would be comfortable and ceiling fans are great.

ZenGum 05-08-2010 08:16 AM

Lovely place, and I think you'll be fine with the summer heat, especially downstairs.

Speaking of which, does it have a (IRL) cellar?

kerosene 05-08-2010 11:15 PM

Yes, it does. :)
