Boxing

I did a boxing class at the gym today. Any other gym goers ever try it? I was pretty happy I could keep up and the chick taking the class said I did really well for the first time. She also told me I'd be able to do any other class there because boxing is the hardest. I was happy to hear that too. (sorry. I couldn't resist a little bit of a boast)

Let's see your hands.

xoxoxoBruce 04-19-2010 11:52 PM

No, but I'll wrestle you.

Tulip 04-20-2010 12:26 AM

Ohh...nice! :thumb2: Can't find the clapping smilie. Btw, nothing wrong with boasting. If you don't boast, how will others know what you're good at? :D

Well, should could just calmly walk up and punch them really hard.

In restaurants, when the server asks my brother, regarding leftovers "do you want a box for that?" he replies "no, but I'll wrestle you for it."

Spexxvet 04-20-2010 07:38 AM

I cut too easily to box. They call me "The bleeder".

Shawnee123 04-20-2010 07:43 AM

Oh, @ Ali...I think it's really neat you did that. I've always wanted to try something like that. Kick-boxing would be fun.

Not in the southern hemisphere - just in the deep south.

I really paid for my efforts yesterday. I was amazed at the muscles that were sore. Back to the gym today. No boxing though.

toranokaze 05-04-2010 02:58 PM

I have done some boxing in my time. It is the most exhausting thing I have ever engaged in, that includes pushing my car up a hill. So if you can still with it I would imagine a great amount of stamina and strength can be gained from boxing Ali.

TheMercenary 05-04-2010 08:21 PM

There are some interesting issues going on in boxing today with the top contenders.

HungLikeJesus 05-04-2010 11:18 PM

You will now be known as Muhammad Ali.

Nirvana 05-05-2010 09:58 AM

:lol2: @ HLJ this is a great example of why I missed you when you were gone ;)

HungLikeJesus 05-14-2010 06:37 PM

Thanks Nirvana. (Sorry for the delay - I've been on vacation.)

HungLikeJesus 06-23-2010 12:47 AM

Ali, I couldn't tell from your original post - are you boxing against an opponent, or against a bag? I have Bob, and Bob takes a lot of abuse. He used to be in the living room, until we re-did the floors. Now he's in the basement, so he doesn't get used as much.

I've been intrigued in the 2nd book of the Millenium Trilogy (the girl who played with fire) by the bad guy who has no nerve endings( non-functioning ones or something) and so there's pretty much no point boxing with him as the other person is always going to come off worst.

I never formally boxed, but I did spar with a buddy really extensively for a good long summer. We cleared some space in the living room (ah the joys of being bachelors), got some gloves on and set some simple rules (no ball shots, no head shots without permission) and punched the tar out of one another, mostly body shots. We'd either free-form dodge and weave trying to hit one another, or we'd take turns using one another as a punching bag by either punching gloved hands, on the back, arms, whatever. We'd stop for a while, lift some dumbbells, smoke a couple cigarettes, and get back up and do it until we couldn't get back up any more. We both lost a ton of weight and felt really good physically. I can't recommend it enough.

The first rule of Fight Club...

glatt 07-02-2010 08:13 AM

gloves are for sissies...

sad_winslow 07-02-2010 01:49 PM

it sounds way more meat-headed than it was. we were in my living room, which was lined with bookshelves, and talked a lot about ancient history (sumarian and roman history particularly, two areas my buddy has a frightening amount of knowledge about). So sort of.. Academic Fight Club Talks.
