What did you do at work today?

So far today I have:

1) Talked to my boss (who's at his second home in Austin) 3x
2) Revised a federal pleading and filed it with the court online
3) Retrieved a file-stamped copy of a pleading I filed online in state court yesterday
4) Had a conference with an associated attorney about the status of a case
5) Ordered public record documents from the Secretary of State
6) Found a document that my boss wanted and emailed it to him
7) Received a faxed pleading, scanned it and sent to my boss for review.

And it's 10 am here. It's a slow day (bosses all gone), and later today I will attend a one-hour webinar on keyword term searching (fascinating, I know); and probably do filing and summarizing deposition.

Went to a meeting.
Heated up a bunch of cardboard boxes.
Moved a temperature chamber from one lab to the next, and verified that it's still working.
Gutted some labview code.
Restarted the labview code.
Threatened to throw my computer out the window.

Didn't work today...hmmmm. It was a gorgeous day. I went out and played some rc car with my nephew this afternoon. After I fed and bathed the boy, I had some Long John Silver. Was too full so I went outside and watched the kids play rc car. Luckily, I was able to caught up with a tenant who's two months behind in rent. Sadly, he doesn't have money to pay.

Group meeting.

Maybe I'll get something done in the next hour or two.

Update: Continued success.

morethanpretty 03-19-2010 04:27 PM

1: Arrived at work, took calls and troubleshot problems (right then).
2: Too many calls in queue, our average speed to answer is getting fucked. Some agents started taking calls and logging them, I called those stores and troubleshot.
3: Refused to train new woman, she slept during training yesterday.
4: Called a store where the manager is a bitch, she immediately started bitching about the agent who had logged her call. She called him an idiot and made fun of his stutter. I explained speech impediments do not make you an idiot. I determined her issue is resolved. She continued to make fun of his stutter and I continued to defend. Finally I told her, "Yes, in fact, that agent you're calling an idiot is a close family member of mine."
5: Told boss about bitchy manager and made sure he pulled the recording. We should not have to put up with insults like that.
6: Continued to call back stores and troubleshoot. Average speed to answer is way fucked up, tried to improve it, no luck.
7: Gave up on keeping terms of contract or keeping numbers looking good.
8: Ate lunch.
9: Tried to get more issues troubleshot, not much luck.
10: Gave up again, left work.

1. Epic embarrassment of a pooch-screwing yesterday resulted in some important people wanting answers as to why the pooch was screwed in such an embarrassing manner. When I got to work this morning I learned that another person (who doesn't work for us but was involved in the event) had sent an email to his boss and my boss saying, ooops, sorry about that, looks like it was my fault.
2. Telephone wiring in ancient house was screwed up. Fixed it.
3. Cleaned off an old workbench in our server room. (Sample of mostly useless contents: documentation CD-ROM from wireless access point purchased six years ago. Installation floppy disk from Novell Netware 5. Printout of instructions for backing up MS Desktop Edition database.) Now that it's cleaned off an indoor air conditioner will be installed.
4. Asked to consider being on a panel discussion at a conference in November. It's the same weekend as a very important milestone-ish show Mrs. Dallas is conducting. Conflicted.

fargon 03-19-2010 06:42 PM

Woke up at 0630 fed cat, did dishes from yesterday, looked at cellar, looked at porn, got dressed, picked up keryx at work ( she came home early) , made lunch, spam and eggs, went to library, went to grocery store for bacon got a bunch of stuff, looked at porn played with cat, made dinner, cheese burgers, washed dishes.
Life is good.

We caught a day without kids so... 2 hour meeting where my classroom was continually used as the example of how to do things properly. Lesson Planning for an hour. Lunch meeting with mentor. Scoring developmental inventory and writing an annual review. Day burned up with little to show for it.:thepain:

Not just today but for All last week and All this week so far
A customer asked if it was Possible to Raise a scale UP any ,
Well sure , there are a few ways to do this ,
We can Order some base Plates with raisers Built on to them , but then you have to raise the Approach the same Height with Concrete,
Get some Blocks Machined to do the Same thing , But Still you have to raise the Approach ,
Or seeing as you Guys Process scrap for a steel mill see if you can get some Chill bar ( about 4" flat Blooms ( wiki Steel Blooms)
But still there is the Approach ,
Customer " How about if we cut some Blooms to fit under the Bace Plates and ontop of the Approach ??"
Well That would work IF they were Flat and ALL the same Thickness ,
"oh we Have a Whole yard Full of 6" Blooms , would That do ?? "
Ugh Yeah , I guess .
So That is what We have been doing for the Last week and a Half

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2701/...b01e2f7a_b.jpg
These Little Blocks Weigh about 500lbs ,
the Full sized Blooms some where North of 10,000lbs
Not totally Done yet , but getting there !!!!!

glatt 03-31-2010 07:21 AM

Wow. Quite a production! How many thousands of dollars is it going to end up costing these guys to raise the scale by a half a foot? And wouldn't it have been a lot cheaper for them to just excavate around the scale and lower the surrounding ground level, thus making it appear that the scale is higher? Could they have done that?

xoxoxoBruce 04-01-2010 12:29 AM

I can't figure out why they would want to raise the scale, but if you put 6" blooms on the approaches, don't you still have to pour new concrete on the approaches to the approaches?

lumberjim 04-01-2010 12:33 AM

today was rather brutal. I hate getting home at 1AM and having to leave the house at 7 30 am to be back there at 9 am.... 4 days in a row.

I was wondering about that, maybe a water issue or they're pouring concrete and paving the whole area?

zippyt 04-01-2010 04:02 PM

The reason they wanted to raise the scale is that the Scale was Originally Planned to be 1' Above grade( for drainage ) , at steel mills they Grind up Slag and start pouring it on the ground , Grade it , let 200,000 lbs truck run over it add some more slag , grade it , etc,,, until they end up with a Basically Stable road , but it still Needs grading and they Are ALL ways adding more slag and rock ,
This and a few other scales in the area have ended up a few inches to a foot Below grade , so every thing Drains TO the scale and it packs Up in Mud that May as well be cement ( Slag , Lime stone dust , and Gumbo Mud ) .
This is the Last scale I Have to deal with in this Area that has this Problem ,
The customer wanted it done Quick and Cheap, Now If the welders would Just Get their Pantys OUT of a WAD , we could Proceed .

Below ended up on a few welders Tool Boxes

glatt 04-01-2010 05:13 PM

Today, like every day, I did a bunch of crap. But I made one of our people really excited when I sent her on a business trip to France.

I measured Disturbance Rejection. Of a 40dB swing, from 1Hz to 10kHz.

woah, Way over my head. As I am trying to pass algebra (again)I will keep you in mind for inspiration.

Pie 04-01-2010 08:40 PM

Meh. I've been working in dB (log) space for a 12 years now. It just takes time.
