Oh Hai from Florida!

Is not so hot actually. But might be hotter tomorrow.

glatt 02-19-2010 03:06 PM

You missed us!

Glad you finally got everything all packed and made it out OK. Did you get any sleep?

lumberjim 02-19-2010 03:12 PM

squirell nutkin 02-19-2010 04:32 PM

No. We stayed up. I'm knucking fackered now, about to eat dinner and then -I suspect-crash out like a narcoleptic.

Elspode 02-20-2010 12:11 PM

That was always my theory of travel.... "Hey, let's drive hundreds and hundreds of miles straight through, then collapse when we get there!"

monster 02-20-2010 07:44 PM

Nah we don't do it when we drive (we flew this time)

Seaworld Today. Boy do my feet hurt. Kraken was great and Manta was AWESOME :D Oh and the sea animals were pretty cool too. Shamu says "hi cellar!" in a very naff way. ;)

monster 02-21-2010 11:27 PM

Kennedy Space Center today. We hung around afterwards to see the shuttle land -we weren't able to see anything, but we heard the sonic boom, which was pretty cool :D

glatt 02-22-2010 08:26 AM

Now that the shuttle missions are winding down, I kind of regret never having seen a launch. 4 more opportunities. But I doubt I'll make the effort.

Pie 02-22-2010 08:48 AM

Did anyone see the video of the atlas 5 eating the sundog? It's incredible. Money shot is around 1:50 -- wait for it!

xoxoxoBruce 02-22-2010 10:43 AM

Is that a Korean rocket, eating it's son's dog? :haha:

Pie 02-22-2010 12:04 PM

Why you gotta get racial? :eyebrow:

Elspode 02-22-2010 11:39 PM

Wow. So rocket goes through cirrus layer that is already refracting the light, and the shock waves of it's passing refracts it in an especially groovy way.

Not racial, ethnic.

monster 02-23-2010 07:04 AM

And back to Florida....

Aquatica yesterday -chilly...... but that meant NO CROWDS -our own private waterpark. Busch Gardens today.

Sundae 02-23-2010 12:07 PM

My bro brought me over a CD of the video he took of Manta. I was SO impressed. One thing the Merkins seem to do especially well (sadly for me)

Did you make the obligatory Steve Irwin jokes?

monster 02-23-2010 08:57 PM

of course.

Busch Gardens Tampa today

FUCKING AWESOME ROLLER COASTERS.....
and..... wait for it.....

No lines WHATSOEVER.

lumberjim 02-23-2010 11:17 PM

Standing underneath the Manta made me queasy.

monster 02-24-2010 09:35 PM

eek! only a few days after we saw the show, a trainer was killed during the killer whale show at Seaworld!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8535618.stm

We suspect it may be the woman we watched.

monster 02-24-2010 09:37 PM

Magic Kingdom in the cold rain today. Brrrr.

wolf 02-24-2010 09:45 PM

It rained every freaking day I was in Orlanda last summer. Torrential Noah-like rain. But if you waited about fifteen minutes, it stoppped and you could go back on the rides. The only real bummer for me was that they did not re-open Jaws at Universal because it was a line of thunderstorms that was moving through. Universal had a lot of indoor stuff to do, and many of the lines were set up to be under cover so it wasn't as bad as it sounds.

I now want to go back to check out the Harry Potter section. It was under construction while I was there and we were able to look at the site. Hogwarts looked really cool.

While I was down there a stuntman in the Indiana Jones show was killed, and I think one of the stunt drivers in the auto thing at Disney was either injured or died.

monster 02-24-2010 09:53 PM

Harry Potter isn't open yet, methinks.....

My cousin says it's really, really cool. And he's not even a Harry Potter fan.

Edit to add: I don't know whether it's open yet or not. He works there, so he may have seen behind-the-scenes stuff.

They've been advertising it quite a bit during the Olympics. I think it opens this summer.

Sundae 02-24-2010 11:59 PM

It's rained nearly every day in the last 10 days in Lanzarote. That's where the 'rents are. They come home today - Mum's been keeping me up to date via text message.

I've been able to cheer her up by reporting snow here though.

monster 02-25-2010 11:18 PM

Clearwater Beach (briefly) and Busch Gardens again in the cold sun. Finished with 4 consecutive front seat rides on Kumba.

Oh Bai from Florida and home to shovel the foot of snow that fell while we were gone in the morniing. We're checked in already :(

skysidhe 02-26-2010 09:48 AM

I need ( we need ) photos!

monster 02-26-2010 08:40 PM

Clodfobble 02-26-2010 09:04 PM

Wait hang on a second.

Your sister's kid looks to be no younger than 7?

Earlier, when you were complaining about your sister's irrational need for silence for her kid to sleep, and the 30-minute bedtime ritual that must not be interrupted, I was thinking her kid was like 3, and was feeling sorry for her. A freaking 7-year-old can deal with a little noise and an altered bedtime ritual. Hell.

monster 02-26-2010 09:30 PM

6.

yup.

Hebe just told me she cried every night at bedtime until she got a soothing cold flannel on the forehead.... scary.

Only child.

I shall keep my irritation in that thread once I have said this: Poor Cousin Crazy. All of the neurotics are learned behaviour. The child is lovely, and rarely irritating despite all the crap -she didn't care about the interruption -she was delighted with the glowstick, but was not allowed to crack it until morning.

 I feel so much better. It was totally this. For lunch, she had to have brand pre-packed sliced chicken and Jaarlsberg. The sliced Jaarlsberg I brought from the deli she "wouldn't touch", so we had to go back to the store (she never saw it if you ask me :p: )

Dagney 02-27-2010 11:56 AM

Mon, I believe you and I were in Orlando the same week! Dang, we could have tried to meet up. We landed last Saturday, and flew home yesterday. The weather was cooler than we'd liked, and the one rainy day put a damper on Hubby's photo plans - but it turned out to be a great vacation.

Did you guys head out to Epcot? (Didn't see that in your notes above) The story about the trainer at SeaWorld is sad, we saw her the last time we were there - the whole thing is just tragic.

Hope you had a safe trip home!

Dag

monster 02-27-2010 05:40 PM

ha, I thought you were there the week before. Yes we landed last Friday and flew home yesterday. We're not sure if the trainer who died was the one we saw on Sunday or not. No, we didn't do Epcot. Sis did and said "totally not you". the rainy day (Weds) was the day we picked for the Magic Kingdom. Which sort of sucked but it wasn't our favorite park, so it was OK.

She just said that so she could say she did and you didn't. :haha:

monster 02-27-2010 08:50 PM

 If that makes her happy, I'm all good.

skysidhe 02-28-2010 06:27 PM
