What do you carry with you every day?

We went out for dinner with some friends recently and one of the guys is a cop. Obviously he carries a load of crap in his duty uniform but I was surprised to see the amount of crap he was carrying at that exact moment for a casual dinner.

He was carrying:

*Glock 22
*2 extra mags
*Kahr p380
*SOG auto knife
*Surefire light
*2 sets of zipcuffs

I tend to look for concealed weapons and I knew he was obviously carrying something but I wouldn't have guessed he could comfortably carry all that out of sight. Color me impressed.

So let's see some pictures. What do you carry with you every day?

lumberjim 02-16-2010 12:07 PM

my giant heid. and you've all see the pictures.

lookout123 02-16-2010 12:08 PM

There is certainly no concealing that.

TheMercenary 02-16-2010 12:09 PM

Glock 30. Not always on my belt, but close by. I stopped carrying extra mags after reading some FBI studies that say most exchanges are over within seconds. I also have a Surefire light, wouldn't go anywhere without it, as well as my Gerber multiplyer and folding Gerber pocket-cip partially serated edge blade, 4". :D

Cloud 02-16-2010 12:15 PM

uh . . . my drivers license and debit card. cell phone, keys.

that would be the minimum. no weapons.

glatt 02-16-2010 12:27 PM

Whenever I leave the house:
Wedding band
Watch
Blackberry
Wallet
Key chain: containing two multipurpose bladed tools, an LED light, and 4 keys.

In my backpack for my daily commute:

Lunch (I only carry this in the morning.)
Umbrella
Tissue pack
Pencil
Office telephone directory.
Business card.
International phone card calling instructions.
2 reflective arm bands.
1 illuminated reflective armband
High intensity short life chemical light stick.
Low intensity long life chemical light stick.
Emergency breathing hood.

jinx 02-16-2010 12:28 PM

Purse: wallet, cell phone, lip balm, pen
Gym bag: sneakers, clothes, bras, underwear, socks, towel, deodorant, razor, scrunchies, gum, headphones, bandaids
Keys
Children
Latte/Tea

Here's mine. Had to take the picture with the blackberry so it isn't in the pic.

DucksNuts 02-16-2010 01:05 PM

Ok, seeing as carrying a weapon isn't all the normal over here, I need to ask... How do you carry your gun and knife on a daily basis?

Lookout, your friend.. Where did he have all that stuff??

Glock was on his hip. Magazines on opposite hip in a carrier that also held the surefire. Zipcuffs and Kahr were in ankle holster.* The knife is just a pocket knife.

He was wearing jeans with an untucked polo shirt.

*I personally find ankle holsters to be damn near worthless, but he's comfortable with it.

I carry my knife in my right front pocket if I'm wearing jeans or khakis. In suit pants it slides inside the waistband. My gun is either carried outside of waistband on a high concealment holster or inside of waistband for deeper concealment depending on what i'm wearing.

It's basically a plastic bag you put over your head. It has a snug rubber gasket that seals tightly around your neck, and an activated charcoal filter that will filter out smoke for a few minutes. It's like a cheap disposable gas mask that will only last for a couple of minutes. It won't filter carbon monoxide, so the idea is just to put it on and get out quickly.

They were giving them away at work after 9/11 and I snagged a couple extra from the offices of people who left since then. I carry one with me in case I'm caught in a metro tunnel fire. That's what the chemical light sticks are for too.

I posted a picture of me wearing one a few years ago somewhere around here.

classicman 02-16-2010 01:59 PM

Oh - cool. I admire your thought & planning. Guess I'm a little spoiled driving to work everyday. I would never have thought of that. Of course I'm in a totally different situation. I'd be lost on a train.

Pie 02-16-2010 04:08 PM

In pocket: cell phone
In purse: keys, photon light, pocket knife, usb memory sticks, lab keys, pens, tissues, chapstick, gum, powerbar, business cards, velcro ties, wallet.

BrianR 02-16-2010 06:35 PM

I used to carry a Glock 23, backed up by a Glock 26 plus two extra magazines.
I still carry a Cold Steel folding blade knife (which last drew blood at my wedding, but that's another story), a generic multi-tool (how I ever got along without one, I'll never know), basic wallet with the usual stuff in it (my wife won't allow me any money so I only have debit cards), keys and maybe a hair thingie or two.

I do NOT look in the purse!

Stormieweather 02-16-2010 07:56 PM

Entirely too much!!

Planner containing: current bills to pay, grocery lists, appointment cards, schedule

Purse containing: Cell phone, wallet, keys, tiny umbrella, ipod bag w/accessories, makeup bag, notebook, pens and current novel.

Gym bag containing: Clothes, shoes, lock, water bottle, gloves, Ipod armband, scrunchie, protein bar

Lunch bag containing: mid morning/afternoon snacks as well as lunch

4 yr old daughter along with: toy du jour, blankie if cold weather, snacks if we'll be gone long.

I no longer carry mace, knives or other weaponry. I do have a mace in my car console, and keep several scattered around the house. But with three inquisitive (and sometimes disobedient) kids around, I have all (fighting) knives and guns under lock and key. The mace may hurt like hell, but they probably won't "borrow" it and it won't kill them.

You guys are painting a very scary picture of America. I'm glad I live where I do, in a different reality. My most dangerous weapon is my car. My most offensive weapon is the non-jesus fish on the back of it.

Now you just need fly a British flag from your antenna to mix it up and make people do a double take.

monster 02-16-2010 09:19 PM

not round here. plenty of brit flags on cars. and windstars have antennas built into the windows.

squirell nutkin 02-17-2010 10:39 AM

So you gun toters are all carrying concealed, or is the holster visible on your hip. If you are carrying concealed, I thought it was difficult to get a permit for concealed. If so, how were you able to get the pemit?

I like to travel light on a daily basis, until recently I didn't even carry a wallet, just some folding money, my DL, and a debit card. Only had keys if I was driving. No house keys around here. No one uses them. That's starting to change...

lookout123 02-17-2010 10:41 AM

how do you like that p32 wolf? I've been thinking about picking up a little p38t but I'm concerned about some of the reliability issues I've heard about. The Kahr is about the same size but will rip mrs L's damn hand off if she fired it.

I (and Mrs L) carry concealed legally. We went through the classes and the FBI didn't spit us out so we're good to go. I don't personally like to open carry because I'd rather people not know I have it before they see the muzzle flash.

On the left, things from my pockets: wallet, phone, boxcutter, tea tree toothpicks.

On the right, things from my jacket: camera, some sort of writing implement.

Not pictured: keys (about 10 + car/fob).

Ever since I quit smoking (pouch of bali shag + lighter was a pocket unto itself) I've been fairly consciously paring it down. I love the days when I can leave home in shorts + a shirt with just a single housekey on a small carabiner clipped inside my waistband, everything else behind in a pile inside.

To be fair, the wallet does have a lot of things in the coin pouch: spare key, thumb drive, and for no really good reason at all, a spoke wrench.

Shawnee123 02-17-2010 01:39 PM

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear;and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)

i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

Wallet and loose coins in one pocket.
Keys and phone (in slipcover) in the other.

Griff 02-17-2010 06:37 PM

Same gear as HM but no phone cover. House keys are still optional around here as well. + Wedding band carried Frodo style.

Depends on the State you are a resident of and live in. Some states are harder than others to get a CCW License. Few if any states allow open carry, maybe Alaska. Concealed is just that. Concealed. If you show it or Brandish it you better be about to use it in self defense, otherwise you risk losing your license and or jail time. Know when to hold em, know when to show em...

classicman 02-17-2010 10:14 PM

Keys, wallet, faith, phone.

ZenGum 02-18-2010 03:45 AM

Am I the only person here who doesn't blow their nose on their sleeve???

Handkerchief
Keys
Phone
Sunglasses
Watch (worn)
Wallet with cash, assorted cards, spare house and car keys.

DanaC 02-18-2010 05:07 AM

Depends where I am going...but usually:

inhaler, small tub of moisturiser, i-pod and headphones, notepad, pens, purse (wallet) with money, cards and assorted old receipts, one or two books, diary, any stuff that needs dealing with (e.g cheques or forms), photocopied articles, wooly hat for if the weather turns, housekeys, mobile phone, painkillers, antihistimines, ... cigarettes, lighter, *thinks* that's about it.

If just out to walk the dog; then keys, inhaler, phone, plastic bags.

Ah Shawnee, that e e cummings poems was one of my favourites. It used to catch the breath in my throat with it's beauty. Now I've decided I don't beleive in love anymore I'm more drawn to Phillip Larkin ;)

If I am going for a walk, or to Grandad's, I have my keys with me. That's it.
Anywhere else I'll probably have my bag.

Current contents
Cards:
EHIC (I need it for Amsterdam and figured it's safest with all the rest
Library card
Waterstones loyalty card
Cashpoint card (for ATMs)
Nectar (loyalty) card
Iceland loyalty card
Prepay credit card
Driving licence photo card

All the above are kept together in a discreet pocket

(Change) purse
Umbrella (this is a seasonal visitor)
Tissues
Mirror
Vaseline
Tinted lip gloss

Oh - in a separate pocket I just found lip liner, Lipcote (lipstick fixer) and eyelash glue. Obviously from Cardiff.

The above is pretty much what I expected to find. Add a paperback to the above and that's my needs covered. I feel like I deserve to die now.
