dave 10-03-2002 10:26 AM

Ja, and this is a Work of God, a Blessing in Disguise. They have re-formed and are ready to rock the holy shit out of anyone willing to go to the show. Consequently, I will have my holy shit rocked out of me.

Never mind "Didn't they break up?"

Didn't they get old?

dave 10-03-2002 12:51 PM

Ja, but they still rock. :)

elSicomoro 10-03-2002 08:15 PM

Well, one can hope. After all, this is still just Axl with a backing band, right?

That Guy 10-04-2002 01:16 PM

Who the hell is this Buckethead character? Anyone heard any of his solo stuff?
And from what I've read around, they (meaning "he") have been pushing the release date for the "new album" further and further back. Some people are skeptical if there really exists any material for a new album, though they have been recording.
Seen the new look on Axl lately? I thought he looked a bit like he had plastic surgery.

Xugumad 10-04-2002 08:40 PM

Guns 'n' Roses never technically split up; they've been working on Chinese Democracy for more than half a decade now. Essentially, Axl's been sitting in a studio with an ever-changing lineup of musicians. Slash, Duff, and Stradlin all left, with Stradlin saying he wanted to be part of a "real band" at one point. (performing, presumably). The CD release date has been pushed back a couple of times since about 1998; there is apparently a lot of music recorded, but the exact track listing and mixing is not decided on.

Right now, the GnR lineup is:

Dizzy Reed (keyboards)
Chris Pitman (keyboards)
Brain (drums)
Buckethead N' Robin (guitar)
Tommy Stinson (bass)
Richard Fortus (guitar)
W. Axl Rose (vocals)

Regarding Buckethead (who's from Marrietta, Georgia), he seems to be a fairly young guitarist with a number of accomplishments to his name. He's part of the Deli Creeps, Cornbugs, Praxis, Cobra Strike, Primus (at Ozzfest 1999 and touring afterwards), and now Guns 'n' Roses. His actual name isn't widely known, but assumed to be Brian Carroll. He's also been known as Death Cube K, and occasionally plays bass. Judging by his live performance at the VMAs2k, his sheer technical skill may excel that of any previous GnR guitarists. (considering his flawless solo between the 6-8minute marks)

GnR's current style seems to be moving towards power rock with some industrial and drum 'n' bass influences. (see also The Fallen soundtrack, the current track Madagascar, etc).

X.

That Guy 10-05-2002 08:37 AM

What's a good song to hear Buckethead's ability?

Xugumad 10-05-2002 02:15 PM

Buckethead's style is probably closest to what one would describe as avantgarde electric guitar, a mixture of speed metal, jazz and jungle (d'n'b, maybe part of the inspiration for GnR's d'b'-heavy new approach?).

Since you're asking for tracks rather than albums, I'd assume you want to sample before buying. Readily available tracks there include "Nun Chuka Kata", and "Sanctum", which are from opposite ends of Buckethead's performance spectrum. Sometimes he performs very slow, melodic, almost childishly naive tracks, such as "For Mom".

His earlier tracks seem almost Iron Maiden- and Black Sabbath-inspired, listen in to "Welcome to Bucketheadland", for instance. One can argue that Randy Rhodes has finally found a worthy successor, or that Satriani and Vai have collided and formed a newer, less egocentric bastard offspring. The musical press certainly hasn't been less than hyperbolic in the past.

If you want to buy an album, check out "Monsters and Robots"; if you just want to download a track, have a look for "Nun Chuka Kata" (which gets going sometime after the 2:30min mark..) or the very early "Welcome to Bucketheadland". Shades of Satriani can be heard on "Binge and Grab" (instrumental), when the insanity starts about 3:20min into the track. More virtuoso speed tapping is on "Praxis".

X.

elSicomoro 12-07-2002 04:00 PM

Both Gn'R shows in Philadelphia have been canceled.

dave 12-07-2002 05:53 PM

I have second row seats, so I hope that shit goes down.

That Guy 12-07-2002 06:07 PM

Have they played any shows yet? I've heard more than just this one cancellation.

dave 12-08-2002 10:02 AM

Cancelled. Oh well. I shall be getting a refund.

elSicomoro 12-08-2002 01:20 PM

Damn Dave, I'm sorry to hear that. I know you've been looking forward to this for quite some time.

j03L10T 12-09-2002 11:45 AM

I invented buckethead.

Assuming that this is a "safe" forum to discuss such things, I dared them to put a man on stage holding a guitar named "buckethead". I was so alone, and at a loss for ideas. Dave was just like totally gone and thankfully, I had already been through this many a time. But this time, if the vocals and music just like totally outright suck you will know that Dave was absolutely not to blame. Hope you like it though.

:)

j03L10T 12-09-2002 12:36 PM

Sure hate to be a "thread" nazi but,

Audio research allowed me the absolute freedom to confirm that I alone am "buckethead". There WERE two tape recorders in motion before drums and bass were ever added and packaged though:)

Same old vocals, bold new package? I can only hope as I was forced, practically at gun point to produce the homework for this baby that stands so very alone in front of you.

: )

Undertoad 12-09-2002 02:45 PM

Are you Oysterhead?

j03L10T 12-10-2002 12:20 AM

Probably so, as Fozzy is to Ozzy. I hope the crowd doesn't think I am taking too much pride in my work, it's just so exciting for me to remember things I forgot about while moving on to the next act/production. If not Oysterhead I definately sang for blue oyster cult, as well as every group on the heavy metal soundtrack.

Not to be an asshole or to rock the boat at all but it's true.

:)

elSicomoro 12-10-2002 12:03 PM

The tour is now apparently canceled.

wolf 12-10-2002 12:46 PM

Looks like GnR is getting more press for not playing than they would for playing.

j03L10T 12-10-2002 01:43 PM

You know what is funny, wolf?

I whole heartidly agree with you on this one. It is merely a ploy to sell a buttload of cd's, or am I just crazy as instructed?

:)

wolf 12-10-2002 04:51 PM

I don't doubt you're being crazy. I've been reading your posts. ;)

However, I think you may also be right about the CD thing.

One of my coworkers attended the riot ... his description was quite entertaining.

I still don't get the whole Buckethead thing, though.

Guess I'm just too far out of the demographic or something.

I was just a kid when I invented GnR, and Buckethead. There's really not much to understand other than it's a really dirty business that is mostly about making money. From my own point of view though it's all about entertaining others. I love it when you ask me questions, Wolf. Especially since there is hardly anyone else who might dare to tell the truth, but I am not alone in any of this. There are many witnesses and we are here to assume control of the "matrix" of corporate america, and that is merely for starters.;)

j03L10T 12-18-2002 11:22 AM

My dear friends, and enemies-

Here is a buckethead cd to satisfy your curiosity. You can find it in the "albums" section.:)

If you can't get this to load at first, I had the same problem. I believe there is a lot of editing neccessary to maintain such a website. It hasn't been very often for such an occurance to take place so I'd recommend trying back later. Anyone else have a favorite real audio site?

Real Audio is dead? I think I'm going to cry. I will now spare you the miserable and gut wrenching description of just how this very reality makes feel. I will only volunteer that I will be using both hands to wipe the tears off of my nose and I am preparing my mop and bucket for what feels as if a flash flood ensuing from lonely tear ducts that are due yet another healthy workout since I ran over the cat. Oh god no, the cat too. Regards-

Happy Happy Joy Joy Joy!!! lalalaahhh
