Wii

It's pretty much a PITA, but I'm posting from my new Wii. I suck at Wii bowling in exactly the same way I do at the real thing!

Stormieweather 12-24-2009 06:26 PM

Congrats Wolf!

I played wii golf with my 4 yr old today. She went 1 under par and I got 8 points for 'giving up' (ie: I had too many shots to count them).

xoxoxoBruce 12-24-2009 06:50 PM

I've always enjoyed playing with my Wii Wii.

Jaydaan 12-24-2009 10:53 PM

ROLF, wait until the kids are all over at someone elses house, and have a game of naked bowling with your "other". Makes losing horribly much more fun :)

We love our Wii there is lots of Wii extras under the tree this year, games, controllers, zappers... etc.....

monster 12-25-2009 03:16 PM

Apparently I don't totally suck at DDR ;)

I can't stand bowling, but I'm actually pretty good at the Wii version (if my two games with a 9 year old competitor can be considered an acceptable sample). I'm hopeless at Wii tennis though. Don't know what my eyes are doing, but I can't actually work out where the ball is meant to be, unless I'm serving (the opposite of the real thing...which I'm crap at as well, just not as crap as the Wii version).

wolf 12-26-2009 02:52 PM

Your mii should track on the ball, so all you really have to do is swing forehand or backhand at the right time. I want to get one of the more sophisticated tennis games. I really like the tennis.

casimendocina 12-27-2009 02:36 AM

That's the bit that I can't seem to do right (not that I've practised a lot).

wolf 12-27-2009 11:44 AM

Have you ever played real tennis, badminton, or ping pong?

casimendocina 12-28-2009 07:40 PM

I play squash weekly, tennis semi-regularly (I was playing weekly while I was in Chile) and ping-pong occasionally. I played badminton at school and although I'm not great, I can definitely maintain a decent rally as long as my opponent isn't really competitive. I'm going to blame my lazy eye for my inability to play Wii tennis. Would that be convincing?

wolf 12-29-2009 01:23 PM

Absolutely.

casimendocina 12-31-2009 12:01 AM

Cool! Now to work on being convincing all round.

This house got it for christmas... "sucks for 2 player, great online"

glatt 01-02-2010 06:32 AM

on New Year's Eve, I went back to our house and grabbed our two remotes, and we played doubles tennis with our hosts on their system. It was a blast. I'd never used 4 remotes before that. Now I'm wondering if it's worth it to buy two more remotes for our house so we can do kids against grownups. Once you figure the remotes, the motion control add ons, and the nunchucks, it's got to be close to $150-$200. It adds up.

DanaC 01-02-2010 06:41 AM

I finally tried a wii!

J and J have one and whilst I was over at their house just before new years we had great fun with it. J(m) bought J(f) a Wii -fit addon for Christmas. I love it! May even get myself one at some point.

casimendocina 01-02-2010 06:50 AM

We spent the last hour or so of New Year's Eve playing bowling, tennis and golf...it was so much fun that we lost track of time and only did a cursory 'it's midnight-Happy New Year' before going back to the game at hand. Bowling I've definitely got the hang of. Tennis, I still suck at. We had two different styles of golfers...one who pretended she was on the green and shuffled forward to get closer to the ball when teeing off (and still wasn't always able to hit the ball on the first go) and the other who sat on the couch and effortlessly moved the control around to hit the ball. When they got to the 9th hole (I think it was), neither of them could hit the ball across the watercourses from the teeing off island to the furthest away island, so they had to island hop. I've heard that there's a foolproof technique for golf depending on whether you're teeing off, putting or whatever there is in between, but have yet to witness it...will post as soon as I'm given that piece of information again and can commit it to memory.

There is a wii here. I've been thinking of the wii fit.
Is the tennis and the bowling a part of the wii fit line up?

No I guess that would be sports huh? I wonder if wii fit isn't ridiculous?

DanaC 01-02-2010 06:53 AM

I think it's pretty groovy. Has yoga stuff and balance exercises. Also ski jump is mega fun.

It has a function that measures your weight and BMI and you can set youself targets. It also works out your centre of gravity and that shows if you have good posture (I dont!).

glatt 01-02-2010 06:55 AM

some wii fit is ridiculous, and some gives you an actual workout.

skysidhe 01-02-2010 06:57 AM

Which ones?

Hmmm, I did the Wii fit weight measurement thing and I came up as on the borderline of being obese. (Another contributor to the Cellar could testify that this is not the case). Also, given the fact that I do a fair amount of exercise, it seemed somewhat inaccurate. I also did hear (but could not confirm that this is true firsthand) that the whole New Zealand rugby team comes up as morbidly obese on the Wii Fit measurement scale, so I'd be somewhat sceptical about it, but am keen to read what other people have to say.

DanaC 01-02-2010 07:21 AM

It told me I needed to add a few pounds. But that didn't make sense having put me in the ideal weight bracket *shrugs*.

I also, apparently, favour my left side in terms of centre of gravity. Didn't know that.

Well, there is one game where you sit on the balance board and the more still you are, the higher your score. I don't see much value in that. The jogging in place for 20 minutes around the island will give you a good workout. Just a couple of examples.

skysidhe 01-02-2010 08:53 AM

Thanks

I have that too. We'll have to become Wii Friends (if you have the internet hooked up for it) and then we can play together.

zippyt 01-02-2010 07:51 PM

Once I get a chance to figuer this thing out some i'll be in touch Wolf
