So we're having our Christmas Party...

...and because we're such a class operation, we're having it right here in the showroom.

The Memo went out that we would be closing today at 4 to celebrate, and have some Italian Food from the Buca De Beppo next door. catered like.

And OF COURSE we're selling like 3 cars in the middle of it. How the hell does this happen? and the fucking customers are sitting there at a table watching the party.....and no one has offered them any of our food....and the customers don't say..'hey...you guys are having your party...we'll come back tomorrow.....' because they're scumbags just like we are.

the ones that are sitting there next to the buffet table insist on buying today....they'll just go to another dealer if we can't help them today.

who the fuck conducts business in the middle of their Christmas Party?

apparently we do.

jesus.

Stormieweather 12-18-2009 03:44 PM

LOL...

Business > party. Oh wait, that's another thread.

We do. Healthcare is a business don't cha know.

lumberjim 12-18-2009 03:55 PM

yeah....jinx often asks....what the fuck...are you saving lives there? they can't do without you for x amt of time?

the way they act, you'd think we were

TheMercenary 12-18-2009 04:00 PM

You already know the answer to that....

It ain't about saving anything but the next sale and making it happen.

I shall not patronize you further.

jinx 12-18-2009 04:32 PM

Ya buncha whores...

ZenGum 12-18-2009 04:36 PM

Seriously, give the customers some party. A few nibbles and a glass of something merry - why not? I imagine it could help clinch a sale. I'd be a little miffed if I was spending tens of thousands in your business and you wouldn't offer me any of the nibbles that were right there at the time.

jinx 12-18-2009 04:38 PM

Keep in mind though, that they're CLOSED.

footfootfoot 12-18-2009 04:41 PM

"Successful Altruistic Auto Dealers" is shelved right next to "The Greatest Irish Lovers" and "Human Rights Advances in China" in the bookstore.

ZenGum 12-18-2009 04:49 PM

Actually, "Customers for Life: how to turn a one-time buyer into a life-time customer" was written by a car dealer in the USA who grasped that providing excellent customer service is in fact a successful business strategy. Instead of squeezing every penny from each sucker that wanders in, leaving them annoyed and heading elsewhere next time, he found that keeping the customer happy makes them come back. Yah, really. Startling idea. The average customer in his dealership in one sample month had already spent upwards of $300,000 in his business.

ETA: I'm not suggesting altruism. I'm suggesting buttering up the customer with the moolah that is paying for the next staff party.

lumberjim 12-18-2009 05:05 PM

look. don't fucking lecture me. it's my party and I'll cry if I want to.

ZenGum 12-18-2009 05:11 PM

and for your next lecture, I think Jinx is a little displeased, and may require some kind of chocolatey/flowery/cunnilingual treat to soothe her.

Cicero 12-18-2009 06:51 PM

So jim, are you drunk yet? :)

Let's face it, Merc; you'd cry too if it happened to you, right?

They can't be closed or the people wouldn't have been able to get in.
If they sell a car or two during the party, the party not only gets paid for, it becomes deductable.

It's lawyers, bonuses come before all other considerations.

lumberjim 12-19-2009 05:15 AM

Fixed it for ya!

Sundae 12-19-2009 05:24 AM

It used to happen to me every year.
Not the car sales thing of course, that would have been weord when working for the NHS...

It just seemed that as everyone else was winding down, slacking off, chopsing and wandering round with snackies, I was given a last minute task and was working like a demon. Everyone would be putting their coats on and all, "Have a lovely Christmas! Bye!" and I'd be cursing like Daffy Duck with at least another hour's graft ahead of me.

I would be so enraged that I would cut my nose off to spite my face. People offering help were turned away with a, "No, you go home and enjoy yourself" through gritted teeth.

Funny, but I miss it. This time next year I hope to be going through it all again :) With better grace this time though.

You have my sympathy, Jim. But look at it this way - you were only missing a crappy buffet with people you work with. The people you really want to celebrate with are in the house your job pays for, and they wouldn't start without you for the world.

Our operation had a pizza party after work in a classroom at the other site... glad I had a dental appointment.

Juniper 12-19-2009 10:20 AM

My FIL bought a car yesterday. ::shrug::

Don't know if it was in the middle of a Christmas party though!

Making money is more important than saving lives these days. Unless of course you are making money off of saving lives.

Yup. We got exactly bupkus for Yule this year. In fact, less than bupkus. They actually took away Xmas Eve as a paid holiday. Oh, we still have to take the day off, we just don't get paid for it.

ZenGum 12-19-2009 04:25 PM

And I bet you didn't get penalty rates on saturnalia, did you?
