Dec 3, 2009: Fluorescent Fighting Fun
Take a lesson from this, kids. Never buy those cheap imported light-sabers.:headshake

Mr Yamaguchi: Tanaka-san, ratings are down. People are tired of watching Galactic Horrible Torture Dragon Show. Even Noble Misery Samurai Ouch! Ouch! is failing. You must think of new program.
Tanaka:  |
Bread and circus. Bread and circus.

For what it's worth, both neon and fluorescent are cold cathode; the concept is very, very similar. A large diameter, phosphor coated white tube of neon is, in underlying science, very, very similar to a fluorescent tube.
I wouldn't like to fight anyone with either. But if I had to, it'd be all about breaking the tip off and then stabbing with what remains. |
Neon tubes I've seen, are a lot thicker glass. Hurtfully thick.:mg:
|
Didn't tw say that flo tubes had mercury in them?
|
These tubes have phosphorous in them. If you get phosphorous in a cut.. It takes a LOOOOoooOOoOOoOOoOOOng time to heal if it ever does.
I think those tubes are filled with Stupid Gas. |
TG it's not Friday, I'm not seeing a viable recipe in this one
|
You light up my life.
|
Fifteen years ago, I knelt down behind my tv. I put my fist on the floor to steady myself. When I did, I put my fist into a pile of left over glass from a broken candle sconce. I still occasionally pull out a piece of that glass outta my knuckles.
How long will these dumbasses be pulling glass outta their various body parts?:headshake |
A haiku in honor of Japan's newest sport:
Clouds of phosphor and Tiny glass bits by my face. No safety goggles? |
Whose "bright" idea was this?
|
Breathing very heavily around all that very fine phosphor dust may be worse than the glass shards, in later years.
My worst experience with glass was after I broke out the smoked rear window of my pickup truck. Safety glass just means the shards created are very small, and grey in this case. After cleaning up the considerable mess and practicing up on my 4 letter words, I'm trying to remove some shards from my fingertips. Digging around with a magnifying glass, needle and tweezers, I start seeing these small thin grey things, and start pulling them out. Crap&@&$%$! but that hurts?! Did you know that the nerves in your fingertips look just like very small thin shards of smoked glass?:eek::eek: |
Nice haiku action, new!
Some back atcha Too many children Means a high-risk, high-pay job; Eating broken glass. |
This only reminded me of my stupid Congressman, Ted Poe who likes to hear himself speak in the House of Representatives. Here he is waxing poetic on the evils of compact fluorescent light bulbs, which I know are not what this thread was all about! He also often gets before the House and speaks about the heroes of the Republic of Texas! :headshake

I'll take Poe over Nancy Pelosi, any day.
CFL's are on the way out, newer LED lights are better, and have no mercury. Congress wants to mandate CFL's to thank China (the maker), for buying our treasury notes. Otherwise, the liberal spenders can't spend us into the poor house, nearly as quickly. After the poisoned baby milk, baby toys, and dog food; the drywall boards packed with hazardous material, etc., I'm done buying things from China, whenever possible. In China, you can buy chicken or pork dumplings that have no meat in them - the meat has been replaced by *wait for it* << treated cardboard >> |

LED lights are nice, but way more expensive. I just paid a fortune for some that will work with dimmers. Quote:

it's bloody. you're surprised?

Actually, the cardboard dumplings was a beat-up by a single journalist looking for a big story, and never actually happened. However, the melamine in the milk formula, and lead paint on Thomas the Tank Engine, certainly did happen. I haven't heard of the drywall. The milk scandal was exposed by good quality investigative journalism within China. Provided you don't point it at the government that sort of thing is tolerated. However, dumpling-dude was trying to parrot that sort of expose' but just set it up. Which means their journalism is as reliable as their manufacturing. :right: I'd better stop before I start channeling Marx. |

Zen, Google Chinese drywall, you'll get 1,450,000 hits. After Katrina, and again after Ike, a huge shortage of drywall led the Chinese to dump shiploads of it here. The out gassing from it has made people sick, bankrupted contractors, and caused people to abandon brand new homes, defaulting on the mortgages.
