It's getting c-c-c-cold

Those of you in similar climates (it's been in the 40s in the a.m. and not getting quite up to 60 in the daytime)...have you turned on your furnaces yet?

I don't mind the chill, I wear warm clothes and I have a down comforter...but that getting out of the shower part might just kill me!

How many of you have your heat going already?

glatt 09-30-2009 08:00 AM

Turn the heat on in September?! No way. It could be snowing outside and I wouldn't be able to force myself to turn the heat on in September.

By the way, this proves global warming is a crock. ;)

Shawnee123 09-30-2009 08:06 AM

I know...it seems awful to turn the heat on already. But I hate being cold.

I just turned OFF the air conditioners (to be fair, I get no air circulation in my place.)

I miss summer already.

global schmobal...it sure isn't warm!

Trilby 09-30-2009 08:09 AM

Shawnee - this weather is Perfect!

Shawnee123 09-30-2009 08:10 AM

It is nice...to an extent.

I'm a summer girl, though. Bring on the heat.

Trilby 09-30-2009 08:12 AM

I perfer the season of death. :)

Sundae 09-30-2009 08:12 AM

The only heater on here is Diz's warming mat, but that works on body pressure.

But Mum was shivering while cooking my lunch today (not a usual occurrence, see the Happy thread) so I expect the heating will be on far sooner than I would like. I'm a very hot person, and love nothing better than snuggling into Winter clothes and feeling the burn in my face & fingers. Sadly - despite what the 'rents think - we live in a temperate climate. We have nothing like the extremes you have in the US. I doubt there'll be more than 20 days below freezing (32) before the year turns into Spring again.

Still, Mum & Dad have a couple of Autumn house-sits coming up. OFF goes the heating! Yay!

lumberjim 09-30-2009 08:16 AM

I had oil delivered yesterday.....will have the heater guys out to do the annual service soon.....

Shawnee123 09-30-2009 08:18 AM

Yeah, I should probably have my furnace given a once-over. Thanks for the reminder.

lumberjim 09-30-2009 08:19 AM

don't want to end up with CO poisoning. Lord knows you'll get no sympathy around here if you do.

mwuh huu huu

Shawnee123 09-30-2009 08:25 AM

"Did you hear? Shaw died from CO poisoning."

"Fucking attention whore."

;)

It's a hard call in between seasons. I get chilly then turn on the furnace and realize it's too hot. I do the same with the ng fireplace too.

Shawnee - get a bathroom fan/heater combination. Unless you have a huge bathroom, a couple minutes of this will warm you right up.

Shawnee123 09-30-2009 09:19 AM

My bathroom is extremely small, but that's a good idea...find a small one so I don't keep running into it.

Pico and ME 09-30-2009 09:22 AM

Also, go buy a man's bathrobe (the big fluffy terrycloth kind) and put it on right out of the shower instead of a using a towel.

Shawnee123 09-30-2009 09:23 AM

I haz a big fluffy bathrobe, but I can't stand putting anything on until I am completely dry. I'm weird.

Pico and ME 09-30-2009 09:25 AM

Is it terrycloth, like a towel?

Pico and ME 09-30-2009 09:26 AM

I have two robes, one for right out of the bath and one for lounging around in.

piercehawkeye45 09-30-2009 09:27 AM

I has gotten down in the 30's at night here. I doubt we will turn on our heater for another month or so though. I just need to get out extra blankets because it is much harder to get up when you wake up cold.

Shawnee123 09-30-2009 09:30 AM

For me it's harder to get out of bed when the bed is all duck-down snuggly and the air is cold.

@pico...maybe I'll look for a decent terrycloth robe. Even towels, unless used and washed, drive me crazy if they're not really absorbent.

They make bathroom fan/light/heater combinations. You could replace your current fan/light with one. Then it's out of the way. Like this:

Shawnee123 09-30-2009 09:36 AM

Interesting. I've never seen that kind of thing, and my light is a fluorescent above the sink...this gives me some ideas for changes.

I am having some work done on my bathroom...new floor. I'd love to replace the whole damn thing.

Do you have a bathroom vent fan? That's what this would replace.

Shawnee123 09-30-2009 09:48 AM

Nope.

:(

I was referring to this:
I think it's funny how whenever someone defends me they also call me an asshole.

Shawnee123 09-30-2009 11:42 AM

Ohhhhh, I'm a bit slow on the uptake.

A couple of morons must have rubbed off on me.

jinx 09-30-2009 11:43 AM

I hate cold. Cold can die in a fire for all I care.

Trilby 09-30-2009 02:30 PM

Heat&Humidity can die in a fire.

Undertoad 09-30-2009 02:37 PM

Heat can die in a freezer.

Shawnee123 09-30-2009 03:29 PM

I'm with jinx: cold can die in a fire. A blazing, merciless, toasty warm fire.

monster 09-30-2009 03:39 PM

First figure skating class today. Usually I have to go in from the hot outside and change out of my shorts and add several layers and skate through the mist. Not so today. It actually felt warmer on the rink than outside  No heating yet, though.

monster 10-01-2009 10:29 AM

Had to break out the hats and gloves this morning. Frosty

Trilby 10-01-2009 10:32 AM

Frosty? Give me 50cc's of hot fudge, stat! Hold still, you're going to feel a slight chocolately sensation.

monster 10-01-2009 10:54 AM

ooo-eerrrrr...... :worried:

Trilby 10-01-2009 10:58 AM

Is from the Simpson's - PraiseLand episode. I'm a geek.

monster 10-01-2009 11:09 AM

I'm just cold. The heating isn't on and I'm starting to think maybe it should be.... it is October after all....

and ye call yerself a Brit! No heat until mid-November! ;)

monster 10-01-2009 11:22 AM

I'm all merkinized now. I had no problem putting long pants on in August this year.... and calling 70 cold. :p

monster 10-01-2009 11:24 AM

^ did you see how i said pants instead of trousers and used the proper temperature scale, none of that foreign centipede thing?

Yes, dear. We're all very proud.

Shawnee123 10-01-2009 11:26 AM

heh heh...trousers...trouser snake.

Maybe that's why we went to "pants."

Oh but I hate it when someone says pant. You read it in ads "A lovely tweed pant, great for the office or a night out."

Pant?

monster 10-01-2009 11:27 AM

you watch out. I'm eligable for citizenship now, you know..... be afraid.....

Shawnee123 10-01-2009 11:27 AM

Does anyone else keep trying to click on dar's links, that aren't links?

monster 10-01-2009 11:28 AM

no

glatt 10-01-2009 11:30 AM

It is permissible to build a fire in a fireplace in October. But no heat yet.

Shawnee123 10-01-2009 11:31 AM

Rats must just be me.

monster 10-01-2009 11:32 AM

must... find... fireplace... under.... all.... legos.....

Good job I bought new display shelves for the legos last night..... the hearth cannae take any more, she's goin' ta blow!

Shawnee123 10-01-2009 12:22 PM

Already, as if on cue, I'm getting itchy winter skin.

monster 10-01-2009 12:50 PM

that's herpes.

Shawnee123 10-01-2009 12:56 PM

:lol2:

Herpes? What is that, some kind of greek god disease?

Cloud 10-01-2009 01:16 PM

Well, it's definitely cooler. High today is 86 F. That may not seem like much, but boy is it nice.

No furnace yet.

Clodfobble 10-01-2009 01:33 PM

I don't even really know what a furnace looks like, or what you're supposed to do with this mythical "heating oil" stuff. My heater is part of my central A/C. I grab the little switch on the thermostat and click it over from "Cool" to "Heat." Which is something I'll do when it gets to be about 60 outside, I suppose. We always have a lot of false starts around here--it'll drop to 55, then the next week be back up to 85, and this will usually happen several times before we really settle into the cold weather.

glatt 10-01-2009 06:59 PM

I just broke out the down comforter. It's gonna be so cozy under there tonight while my nose is cold. :)

Razzmatazz13 10-01-2009 07:23 PM

I was holding off, but dammit. I'M COLD. Heat just went on.

I can feel it seeping into my skin already.

dar512 10-01-2009 07:24 PM

Having two teenage daughters in the house affects my cultural exposure. So it's not so surprising that this thread reminded me of this:
.
.

jinx 10-01-2009 07:24 PM

We coulda used some heat today but ended up just staying out all day instead. I hope we have some false starts...

dar512 10-01-2009 07:26 PM

I read that as "false farts" -- which, you know, might work in a pinch.
