I can't believe we did it.

We'd talked about it for so long. Kicked it around... moved forward, backed off. Then after we finally pulled the trigger on a loan, it took forever to get all the zoning approvals and permits in place.

Cool!

glatt 09-16-2009 12:30 PM

Exciting!

lookout123 09-16-2009 12:48 PM

Most excellently awesome.

Radar 09-16-2009 12:57 PM

Based on the photos, I assume you're adding a room.

I love the red brick on your house. When was it built?

classicman 09-16-2009 01:02 PM

Out-standing
get it?

sulks away like the loser he is.

Cloud 09-16-2009 01:36 PM

where's the pool?

Clodfobble 09-16-2009 02:37 PM

More importantly, who gets the new room? Is it a new master bedroom? A larger living room? Surely it can't be for the kids, kids should never get anything new, it builds character...

plthijinx 09-16-2009 02:39 PM

very nice project indeed!

glatt 09-16-2009 02:55 PM

Is there going to be a secret door into that crawlspace so you can grow pot down there? You must be doing something with that crawlspace if you put down a concrete pad.

Maybe you could get some foster kids. You know, for the extra cash, and stick them in there.

Just go to your local ACORN office - they'll tell you all about how to do it too. :eyebrow: :headshake :3eye:

glatt 09-16-2009 03:06 PM

They fired the experts at my local office. Maybe you could go to yours and tell me what they say?

classicman 09-16-2009 03:12 PM

 HA HA HA. LOL HAGGIS and all that.

1949 or 1950... post-WWII housing boom inner-ring suburb cookie-cutter housing development.

First floor is a family room with powder room. Second floor is a master bedroom with bathroom. Once Mrs. Dallas and I move into it, we're going to rip out the carpeting and wallpaper (both dating from well before we bought the house in 1994) and paint and stuff. Then Miss Dallas gets it, and we repaint and re-floor her current room for Young Master Dallas, whose small bedroom will become Mrs. Dallas' office.

I have no particular plans. There will be access through a current basement window.

During moments of particular annoyance I've threatened to put both kids in the current small bedroom together and let the adults divvy up the remaining rooms. But I like this... I think I'll start threatening with the crawlspace.

jinx 09-16-2009 07:36 PM

I can't believe you didn't make it a fortress of solitude...

Griff 09-16-2009 07:45 PM

Cool addition! Heh, he said powder room.

monster 09-16-2009 07:56 PM

Jealous. I want more Spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace! It's going up fast! Excellent. Will it be ready for our visit at Thanksgiving?

It's cool. If I feel like being alone, there's plenty of room for me under the liquor cabinet if I curl into a fetal position.

xoxoxoBruce 09-17-2009 12:26 AM

I thought your fortress of solitude was under the stairs. ;)

Queen of the Ryche 09-17-2009 03:29 PM

Awesome Sleeve! Hope all goes well and according to plans.........

Impressive liquor cabinet!

jinx 09-17-2009 08:05 PM

Hey sleeve, you leaving any exposed brick in the new rooms? I just love that...

Shawnee123 09-17-2009 08:13 PM

Very nice! Yay for you!

No, I thought about it. My parents' family room (formerly the carport) is like that because one wall used to be exterior. But my wife wasn't interested, and some of the brick doesn't look great from having the porch attached to it.

Lookin' good. :thumb:

SteveDallas 12-07-2009 12:03 PM

We passed the final inspection this morning. The certificate of occupancy will arrive in the mail in a few days, but we can go head and officially move in. (It's all been done except flooring etc. and a couple little leftovers.)

lookout123 12-07-2009 12:16 PM

Looks great Steve.

TheMercenary 12-07-2009 12:29 PM

Wow, that looks fantastic. Great job.

Clodfobble 12-07-2009 01:30 PM

Congrats! Can we have recent photos?

Elspode 12-07-2009 08:20 PM

That is totally awesome. Two questions, although you may not wish to answer the second one: (1) Who designed the addition? (2) How much of a loan are we talking about, here?

jinx 12-07-2009 08:26 PM

Fantastic sleeve... I bet it has that new house smell.....

Cicero 12-07-2009 11:10 PM

Yes! More room for Christmas gifts! Right Sleeve? lol!

SteveDallas 12-08-2009 12:13 AM

Here you go... we did the paint and floor ourselves.

Two of the family room. (We already moved stuff in because my wife wanted to have her work stuff in the old living room without the kid interrupting it.)

1. An architect named Tom Dinardo. The contractor brought him in. Our lot is irregular--wedge shaped--so designing something that would pass muster with zoning was a serious problem.
2. It was a chunk, but we were able to lower our interest rate 1.5% at the same time.
