Time to talk about The Weather

I mean, WTF? risk of frost in August? Did I relocate in my sleep? Am I actually now in Wogga Wogga, Australia or BFE Alaska?

These temps are in centigrade, people, lest you think it's even colder than it is. which would be almost freaking impossible.

WORST. SUMMER. WEATHER. EVER.

well, at least since I moved here. humph.

Pie 08-27-2009 11:40 AM

I'm sure any one of our Texan or Arizonan dwellars would be happy to trade for a few days!

Cloud 08-27-2009 12:42 PM

You betcha! God, I am soooooo tired of the heat. And we didn't even get much rain this summer to cool things off.

Sooo tired of HOT, dammit!

plthijinx 08-27-2009 12:51 PM

i'm sooo ready for our week of winter down here! last month prepping a cessna 172 for painting i thought i was gonna die! it was around 100 degrees or more daily. i think it averaged 103 with heat indexes of about 115. almost heat stroked a couple of times....

monster 08-27-2009 12:59 PM

We just didn't get "hot" at all this summer. great news for the electric bill, but otherwise.... :( i've gone all nesh yankee now -I used to think 60 was hot and a cue to wear shorts. now I'm contemplating sweatpants when it gets as low as 75

Clodfobble 08-27-2009 01:03 PM

Not only is it hot, but we're in such a drought that the city council ruled that starting August 24th, restaurants must not serve water with meals until the customer requests it.

monster 08-27-2009 01:05 PM

wow, that's insane

Clodfobble 08-27-2009 01:25 PM

To be fair, it's pretty much standard practice here to serve a big 24-36 oz. glass of water to everyone at the table, but then most people order a soda or whathaveyou anyway, so it is a fair amount of wasted water. Plus, you know, it's Austin, so they're all into the symbolic gestures.

monster 08-27-2009 01:28 PM

they should place a bottle of water, and then if unopened they can reuse it. In biodegradable environmentally-friendly recycled-paper bottles of course ;)

dar512 08-27-2009 01:58 PM

It's been cool in Chicago. I'm enjoying it. I prefer cooler weather.

monster 08-27-2009 02:37 PM

5 centigrade in August is not cool. it's cold. it's 40 degrees in your strange American units. 40. as in 8 above freezing. in August. usually, we still have to sunblock the kids and make sure their shorts are long enough to meet regulation as they go back to school -which doesn't happen for another two weeks!

glatt 08-27-2009 02:40 PM

But that's the low, isn't it? That's the temperature at 5 AM.

monster 08-27-2009 02:41 PM

yup. Should be about 70 then.

monster 08-27-2009 02:43 PM

ok 60. I just checked and 60 is the average low. We may even set a record -the lowest on record is 39 for this time of year! Set in 1915. I told you it was cold!

dar512 08-27-2009 03:03 PM

I just checked. Ann Arbor is just a little farther north than Chicago -- and our forcast calls for lows ~ 60F. I wonder why you guys are so much colder? Are you normally colder than Chicago?

monster 08-27-2009 03:12 PM

no, don't think so. Although we are only 45 minutes from Hell here.

dar512 08-27-2009 04:39 PM

That would imply that at any given moment you will probably either be hotter than Hell or colder than Hell.

You might want to consider moving.

Shawnee123 08-27-2009 05:50 PM

It's been unseasonably cool this summer. I wonder if winter will also be colder. Must. Not. Contemplate. Winter.

We're not far from Paradise, I used to drive thru it all the time. Intercourse and Blue Ball aren't that far either... and Bird In Hand...

Undertoad 08-27-2009 07:10 PM

Half my family is from Blue Ball

you'd wonder how that could be possible

Especially since you got a rag top

ZenGum 08-27-2009 09:41 PM

Down here, we have havinga freakishly warm winter.

It got to 35 in Brisbane, in August. That is their hottest day so far this year, in the last month of official winter. WTF?

It has been warm and dry in Adelaide too, I mean warmer and drier than usual.

Pssst Monnie, Wagga Wagga. And as the song says, Don't call Wagga Wagga Wagga.

Elspode 08-27-2009 10:31 PM

We are forecast to possibly have a low of 48 degrees by Sunday or Monday AM. Just...weird. If it weren't for global warming, just think how cold it would be!

um, where? Do you really think there's a BFE in Alaska? It's generally safer to make slight changes to placenames when biching, I've found.... ;)

Dunno, never been to Alaska, but I've driven through Wagga a few dozen times. Buy fuel, keep moving.

monster 08-27-2009 10:53 PM

Plus I find Wogga Wogga as funny as all hell -my mom had a bf from there.....

ZenGum 08-27-2009 11:12 PM

Ya know Wagga Wagga is half way between Gol Gol and Wee Wah?

plthijinx 08-27-2009 11:34 PM

My parents used to live in Paradise. It wasn't. Trust me.

xoxoxoBruce 08-29-2009 01:09 AM
