Fantasy Football 2009

It's time to create the league, and start researching for the draft.

who's in this year?!

last year's champion was Pete....she beat sycamore. I think it was all because of how cool her helmet was.

The bullies WILL make the playoffs this year, dammit.

I've re done the bullies' helmet for the new season....

W.HI.P 07-23-2009 01:10 AM

can we move this over to yahoo so we can actually pick the players we get, otherwise, its kind of meaningless.
i mean if you're leaving the players you'll get, to chance....its not really your team.
half the fun of fantasy is the draft.

glatt 07-23-2009 07:24 AM

I'm in again. It was fun last year and actually caused me to watch a game on tv.

Shawnee123 07-23-2009 07:51 AM

Can you explain it a little? I might like to play, but I don't want to commit if it takes a lot of time, being a slacker in my off-hours and all. Since I no longer really have a football team, I can see how it would make the season more exciting, and I love football just never really have anything to get into it about these days.

glatt 07-23-2009 08:06 AM

Takes about twenty minutes a week for basic participation, which is what I did.

If you want to get more into it than that, you can watch all the games and read all the news and make elaborate plans. You have your team, and the website tells you if any of your players are injured or are sitting out because they have no game scheduled that week. If that's the case for any player, you need to put a substitute in their place. As you follow the players' performances during the season, you may be unhappy with someone and want to trade him, so you look at the list of available players and make the trade. You should do that earlier in the week, because it takes a day or so to process it. You always want to have your full team ready to play once each weekend arrives.

It's hard to explain without the website to look at, but it's really pretty well organized and easy. All the information you need is right there.

Shawnee123 07-23-2009 08:31 AM

OK, I'm in. Sounds like fun.

half the fun of fantasy is the draft.

NFL dot com has a live draft option, whip.....but ...again.... theres no way we're all going to get logged in at a predetermined time and spend 4 hours doing a live draft. do that with your sports betting buddies. the automated draft works ok if you spend some time devising your strategy, and ranking the players you want.

glatt 07-23-2009 08:44 AM

I'm a fan of letting the computer pick them for you. You can get a decent team that way.

Griff 07-23-2009 01:12 PM

Pete and Griff are in.

I agree with Jim on draft style. You can strategize with NFLcom it is just a different kind of strategy and as glatt says you can let things slide and still get a decent squad.

W.HI.P 07-23-2009 01:27 PM

ok, lets keep it at nfl.com, but at least make it a live draft.
whoever wants to be there can be there, whoever can't make it, can't.
for those who aren't there, it makes no difference as they'll draft just like they would if its not a live draft.

I might use that with the "s" changed to a "d'.

Shawnee123 07-23-2009 01:38 PM

jim, are you in charge? if you are, i'm probably in. if not, i'm probably not. if this is going to get all out of hand with everyone beeping at you about "you should do this and you should do that" and shit maybe I better not play. someone is already irritating the shit out of me. big pro fantasy football man, up thar. :headshake

let me try a dummy run that way and see how long it takes for each round to time out and autopick...or if it even will do that.

Shawnee123 07-23-2009 01:43 PM

As I thought, too complicated. Never mind. I'm back out. I'm sure you're all very disappointed.

Griff 07-23-2009 01:44 PM

hmmm... so doesn't this give whip and other live types an advantage over teh rest? I dunno, I'm a little fried after work.

Shawnee wait for it to shake out...

Shawnee123 07-23-2009 01:46 PM

Nah...not worth it if I'm already wanting to beat the shit out of bookie dude.

Griff 07-23-2009 01:47 PM

think of the pleasure when your scrubs crush him

at first, i didnt think so..but the more i think about it, i think it would. he'd be able to change his drafting strategy on the fly as opportunities arise.

nah..you're beat, WHIP. in or out?

I'm your Bookie Man
That's what I am
And I'm here to do
Whatever I can...

hardy har

Let me know how it plays out. I don't want to rain on the parade. :)

bluecuracao 07-23-2009 06:06 PM

Eagle Green's in...

C'mon Shawnee--it's not complicated. I won the first year, and I don't even understand how the FF scoring works.

Shawnee123 07-23-2009 06:11 PM

I really don't want to be snippy: it's not my game, I've never played, and certainly how you guys want to do it is fine. I just get sick of Pro Boogie Boy and his little inside track.

I love some competition, even fantasy competition, and think it would make the long winter football season more enjoyable...but if Boogie Man will bother me I shouldn't play because it's not my place to make this a pain in the ass for everyone else.

Next he'll be wantin' to use real money. And haggis.

;)

Its really kinda fun Shawnee. You will catch on quick and could even kick some butt (Im a two time champ in another league and I know diddly about football).

lumberjim 07-23-2009 06:36 PM

no no....hating on WHIP is a tradition in our household! make it one in yours too!

Shawnee123 07-23-2009 06:37 PM

OK, I'll join the fantasy hatin' game, and maybe the fantasy football game.

It really does sound like fun! :)

Shaw, my goal last year was to beat WHIP, just because he annoys the shit out of me. I beat him AND made the playoffs with a team he picked as one of the worst. Still feels good...

This year: The Mostly Dead. Helmet design by Jim Hjelm, I mean Helm.

Shawnee123 07-23-2009 07:19 PM

That is an admirable goal. And an admirable helmet. How y'all make those things? I don't even know where the FF is located on teh webz.

Now I want to play just to name my team and get a hjelmet, I mean helmet.

Oh hey, you wanna go over to an online poker site & play sometime? Play money only, I promise. (And the international banking industry hasn't yet figured out how to transfer haggis between checking accounts.) (No doubt they're working on it though.)

Shawnee123 07-23-2009 09:46 PM

Where? What kind? Texas Hold 'em?

lumberjim 07-23-2009 11:22 PM

shaw....I would be honored to create a helmet for you.

email me a team name and design concept. I'll do my best for you.

I did design last year's champion's helmethttp://cellar.org/showpost.php?p=476935&postcount=20( pete's rainbow ponies)....with jinx's collaboration, of course.

Shawnee123 07-24-2009 07:12 AM

I'll have to think about my team name over the weekend. :)

Undertoad 07-24-2009 01:12 PM

I'm in for hold-em, play money.

Or real money if it's Poker Stars and we're betting micro amounts, the 25-cent tables.

I have an account there with $5 in it.

Shawnee123 07-24-2009 01:16 PM

Let me know, guys. I love hold-em. MIGHT play for tiny money. Probably not tonight as I'm going to a friend's house, or plan to unless my headache and extreme fatigue gets worse. It would be way fun to get some dwellars hooked up for poker though. Hell, I might even drink a beer!

SteveDallas 07-24-2009 01:57 PM

25 cent? No way.. I stick to the 4-cent/2-cent tables. Or, wait, you mean 25 -cent buyin for no-limit? I usually play limit.

lumberjim 07-24-2009 08:58 PM

ok...league is created....draft day SUnday, August 9th.

I've invited the following people:

me
jinx
UT
sycamore
shaw
glatt
griff
pete
clobble
W.HI.P
zippy
plthijinx
bluecuracao

shit. that's 13 people. there are only 12 spots.

FIRST COME FIRST SERVE!

i sent invites via PM or email if i had it.

Clodfobble 07-24-2009 09:49 PM

If it fills up, someone can have my spot. I'm paying even less attention this year than I have in the past, and that's saying something. I did rank my draft picks already though, so I'm ready whenever the season starts.

Undertoad 07-24-2009 09:58 PM

elSicomoro 07-26-2009 10:15 PM

I'm in...fucker.

lumberjim 07-26-2009 10:20 PM

well...that's 11 of the 12.

a. pete and griff can co captain a team

b. clobble offered to give up her spot.

i sent a pm to griff yesterday, but have not heard back. It's up to them, I guess.....

i feel bad that I miscalculated with the invitations.

elSicomoro 07-26-2009 10:22 PM

Which site are we using? Yahoo! or NFL.com?

Mac_The_Handicapper 07-27-2009 12:03 AM

If you need a 12th player I'm more than willing to enter.

Griff 07-27-2009 05:31 AM

whoops been outa town.
I'm in.

Shawnee123 07-27-2009 11:25 AM

Is there anyone who played before who didn't get to sign up this year? I don't want to take anyone's spot.

elSicomoro 07-27-2009 02:31 PM

Jim, I'm confused...we have two leagues running (Cellar and FB)? And I'm not in the Cellar one? No big deal...just want to know what I should be doing.

lumberjim 07-27-2009 03:15 PM

I set the Facebook one up just to see what it was about......sent invites.....i think.

but no one joined...until you did. you want to be on the cellar league. I over-invited and all 12 slots are full. clodfobble may want to give up her spot, though.....

sorry for the confusion.

Undertoad 07-27-2009 03:17 PM

Is there a 16 slot lig?

Shawnee123 07-27-2009 03:33 PM

I'm the noobie, I'll drop out if you want the spot, syc.

I thought there wouldn't be enough teams.

lumberjim 07-27-2009 04:22 PM

I don't see any options for it on the free version.

Clodfobble 07-27-2009 04:30 PM

No way Shaw, you're actually interested in doing it! I'm seriously only holding my spot because I've done it in years past to get the numbers up to 12 participants. I've got way too much to do, I positively assure you I will pay no attention to any football games played this year, real or fantasy. LJ, how do I give my spot to syc?

elSicomoro 07-27-2009 05:35 PM

Could she drop and then I could go in?

(Thanks, Clod! I love you...in a platonic way.)

Clodfobble 07-27-2009 05:46 PM

Ah, I figured out how to quit the league. Syc, there should be a spot open now.

elSicomoro 07-27-2009 05:57 PM

Hey, can some take the photo from whalepenis.org and superimpose it on a black helmet for me? I suck at PhotoShop.

glatt 07-27-2009 07:17 PM

Clodfobble, you're a good egg.

monster 07-27-2009 07:25 PM

fob, there's always room for you in the fantasy premiere league ;)

Clodfobble 07-27-2009 07:32 PM

If you need me to fill out the league, I'll make an account with my standard player-selection strategy... but seriously y'all, I find most sports to be mind-numbing. I don't even watch the SuperBowl for the commercials.

Shawnee123 07-27-2009 09:26 PM

Thanks Ms Fob...I really would have bowed out but if you're sure you're not into it...

You are an angel, either way. :)
