'Ello.

My spouse and I are waiting to hear from our realtor about a house that we made an offer on last night. Impatient and excited, I've been browsing the internet for information about the work I'd like to do on the house, if we get it. I did a search on building your own privacy fence, and that's when I stumbled upon this forum (an old thread started by a girl who wanted to build a fence at an apartment she was hoping to rent came up when I googled fence-building). I was amused by a number of the comments on that thread, and after perusing the forum a bit, I thought I might descend into the Cellar myself.

So hello. A brief introduction...

I'm married and have 3 young children. I live in the midwest. I'm a senior in college (but won't be graduating for 2 more years, due to the aforementioned children). I'm studying French and English and will be teaching one or the other, or both, to high schoolers upon graduation, assuming I find a job. I love language, travel, and writing. Kind of a francophile. Don't know why...I just am.

Um...probably more info I should give. But just ask, if you'd like to know. :o

Pie 07-14-2009 12:16 PM

'ello, Monkey!
Quite a collection of monkeys we're getting here. In a variety of moods.

Welcome!

fargon 07-14-2009 12:17 PM

Welcome, Abandon hope all ye who enter here!!!

That's OK, we're reasonably tolerant. ;)

Welcome to the Cellar, Pensive. :D

jinx 07-14-2009 12:53 PM

That sounds like a StacyV thread... I hope no souls were spit upon...

Welcome Monkey.

Pensive Monkey 07-14-2009 12:55 PM

Yes, that's the one.

And my apologies for adding more monkeys to the mix.

Happy Monkey 07-14-2009 12:57 PM

You take that apology back right now! You can never have too many monkeys!

Shawnee123 07-14-2009 01:00 PM

If anything, we need MORE monkeys!

Welcome Pensive!

Pensive Monkey 07-14-2009 01:05 PM

I agree, though we do tend to stink up the place. But the apology is hereby retracted.

monster 07-14-2009 01:11 PM

Wonder what monkey bacon would taste like?

Pensive Monkey 07-14-2009 01:13 PM

Not very good, I should think. Monkeys aren't fat enough. (This is not my way of proclaiming to be gloriously slender, by the way.)

monster 07-14-2009 01:19 PM

ah well. welcome :)

DanaC 07-14-2009 01:27 PM

Hallo hallo Pensive Monkey :) Nice to meet you...

Now all we need is Grumpy, Sleepy and a few other monkeys and we'll have a full set!

Welcome! I myself have wondered, if you can (eventually) get Shakespeare out of a thousand monkeys and a thousand typewriters, how many monkeys do you need to get The Cellar?

Happy Monkey 07-14-2009 03:48 PM

It used to be three monkeys and three typewriters, but due to the bad economy, it had to be cut back to one.

Pensive Monkey 07-14-2009 04:49 PM

I work for peanuts.

Flint 07-14-2009 04:50 PM

I just spent like 30 minutes looking for this post about the Cellar monkey.

The search brought up alot of my posts with quotes By Happy Monkey, as in the "no two card shuffles will ever be the same" thread, the "Ibram doesn't want to go to college in the South" thread. Also, the "monkey kick off" thread, and the "make the monkey walk device" thread.

Aliantha 07-14-2009 05:15 PM

G'day PM. :) I hope you have a lovely time here, although it's highly likely there will be times that the people one here might give you the mega shits, but that's ok. That's just how we show our true affection for you. ;)

It might be rude to ask, but I'm really curious about you being in college and already having three kids. Did you get started early or are you a mature age student?

Pensive Monkey 07-14-2009 05:31 PM

Not rude at all. I married at 18, had my first wee one at 20, and didn't start school until...mmm...23, I guess. I'm 26 now.

Aliantha 07-14-2009 05:48 PM

Good work then. What encouraged to you go back to school? Did you know you wanted to be a teacher before you started?

spudcon 07-14-2009 06:43 PM

Welcome Pensive Monkey. You are welcome to throw poo in the Cellar, everyone else does.

Pensive Monkey 07-14-2009 08:08 PM

Just an update...we got the house!!

Aliantha, I was in retail for awhile but just decided I'd rather use my brain a bit more. Started school intending to do literary translation, but thought it'd be wise to have a teaching certificate. So...teaching isn't my dream job, but I'm ready for it, and looking forward to the perks!!

Elspode 07-14-2009 08:39 PM

Well, I'm late to the welcome wagon, but...welcome, Thoughtful Primate.

ZenGum 07-15-2009 01:10 AM

Hiya Pensive. :welcome:

So, what will happen when Pensive Monkey meets Happy Monkey?

I don't think we should let them breed, though, it could create a race of active-bipolar-manic-depressive monkeys, and I'm not sure we want that.

Pensive Monkey 07-15-2009 02:16 AM

So my sex up to this point has been a mystery. Curious to see what you all think I am. Male, female, both, or neither?

ZenGum 07-15-2009 02:22 AM

Well, it's all we're really interested in actually, all that stuff about your personality was just pretense. ;)

Actually, I'll guess female, based on career path and subjects studied.

Aliantha 07-15-2009 03:08 AM

I'm guessing male, but I'm usually wrong.

I'd guess female. I've never heard a male combine a superlative with the word slender; but, there's a first time for everything!

Welcome.

capnhowdy 07-15-2009 06:33 AM

Welcome to the Cellar, PM!

I'm guessing your sex is female.
I'm guessing mine is infrequent.

monster 07-15-2009 09:19 AM

yeah I think female too, that's why Sleeve's post jumped out at me. If you're male, looks like you're going to need to butch up a little or you'll have Sheldon scratching at your door

BACK door!

SteveDallas 07-15-2009 10:05 AM

My bad, I thoguht there had been a gender reference somewhere earlier.

Pensive Monkey 07-15-2009 10:53 AM

Ha. Female it is. I guess the "gloriously slender" was a dead giveaway, wasn't it.

You also used "spouse." Every man I know says "wife." I've only heard women say "spouse."

Welcome.

Pensive Monkey 07-16-2009 09:29 AM

Damn. I need to work on my androgyny.

I'd never thought about that before, but you're right. Of course the nuance behind it is to suggest equality--but really, we can't even use the word husband anymore, without implying subservience? That's not fair, I'm officially reclaiming the word for my own empowerment.

Alternatively, we could just start calling them "the old paycheck-generator."

Pie 07-16-2009 11:50 AM

I prefer the term "kept man" mesself.

"Grouchface" seems to work well enough for my family . . . .

Pensive Monkey 07-16-2009 02:35 PM

I like to call mine "baby daddy." That's about all he's good for.

Aliantha 07-16-2009 06:07 PM

I call Dazza my husband. I never use any of those other psudonyms.

Elspode 07-17-2009 07:21 PM

Well, someone's got to do it, so...

Let's see yer tits, PM. We actually have a thread for that, you know.

Sorry, it's my job. It isn't like I *want* to be crude, but it's sort of expected of me by now.

Pensive Monkey 07-17-2009 08:34 PM

I'm breastfeeding. I don't think you want to see them right now!!

Clodfobble 07-17-2009 10:55 PM

I assure you, they do. You wouldn't even be the first, in fact.

xoxoxoBruce 07-18-2009 12:27 AM

Clodfobble is very wise... read and obey. :haha:
