June 1, 2009: Skin Art
Andrew Krasnow makes skin art.
No, not tattoos, not body painting, art made of human skin. Quote:

is it science? No? They why the fuck is he allowed o play with it?

Monster: yup. If I leave my body to science, it is for science. This is art (maybe), but not science. He can only use the skin of people who have left their body to ART. Also, he needs some remedial logic, Just like Chavez. "Most suffering was caused by white people", even if true, does NOT entail "most white people cause suffering". Compare, "most murderers are right-handed" and "most right-handers are murderers". Racist twerp. |
Looking at his skin map, there is a hole around where Idaho should be.
Is this because he used the wrong part of a body for tanning? Is he making a statement about Idaho? |
As in: My Own Private Brown-eye-daho?
|
Glad to see he got dressed up, shaved, combed his hair etc for his exposition.
|
What a lewser..

Despicable. Tasteless. Disrespectful.
What a schmooz. |
This really pisses me off. If somebody donates their body to science, how the hell did this guy get his hands on their body parts? This will cause people to be less likely to donate their body to science in the future, and body donations are needed for science.
|
What does it matter, they're dead. Garbage. Refuse. Worm-food.
Heck, I'll donate my body to art. They could probably upholster a whole sofa using my hide... |

So ... fold along the Mississippi, insert flap F into hole I, and the good ole USA can at last go #&%$ itself! |
He puts the lotion on his skin...
|
You know, it's one thing to make art out of skin. But that map is deplorable; it has only the barest resemblance to the right shape. My kids could make a skin-map better than that one.

Maybe this is where Florida came from. |

Seriously. I like art. Art is great. If I donate my body to art, then you go ahead and cut it up and tan the skin and make toothpicks out of my bones. Whatever's arty.
But if I donate my body to science, please put it to some sort of actual use, or my ghost is going to be all sorts of put out. I mean, you could at least shove it in Body Worlds. Label it as "Totally Average Guy, Notice Effects of Sitting In Front of Computer a Lot". It will be amazing (maybe). |

What's next...a mobile made of kidneys, tongues and eyeballs?
I agree...totally tasteless. I don't know where some people get their ideas of what is art. My ex was an art major and she had some weird fucking friends. |

Would it be racist of me to speculate that he uses white skin because that's all he's got to work with? I wonder the racial and gender breakdown of people who donate their bodies to science.
Just sayin'. |
Interesting first post - welcome - I think.
|
I don't think it would be racist to ask the question. In fact there should be some stats out there on it. I suspect that there is a much lower rate of donation by people other than white for many reasons, esp cultural and religious. We may have had one out of 9 bodies in our lab that was a black person.
|
... which would be fine, except that his lab only does electronics research...
Seriously (just for a moment), is one balck per nine people a reasonable proportionate representation of the population in your area? It sounds about right for the USA in general. |

Oh, and welcome to the Cellar. :D |
I would have no problem with it - IF the skin had been left by people with the intention of making art.
What bothers me is that the artist is making a political and a racial statement out of people who selflessly donated their bodies so that the rest of the human race could benefit. And he is using their gift to make a statement about how awful America is, Americans are, white Americans behave. No. Wrong. Now, if you really want to be controversial, make a statement about crime using the skins of people killed on Death Row. Or about gang culture using skins of people shot on the streets of cities with gang related killings. Or about drugs using junkie hides. Don't take completely unrelated skins and try to say something about a whole country. Grrrr. And I'm pretty liberal in my definition of art. This is something I would not go to see. This is misrepresentational. If that is a word. If I want lies and generalisations I can read a newspaper. BTW - Clod. You're not thinking of home schooling are you? Only I kinda worry about your idea of a project ;) |

No recipes yet!
Interesting, no recipes so far.
Also interesting: Cellar people rarely get pissed off by some weired artist using bizarre material. |

Good point about the recipes, though. I think we were distracted. |
Something this tasteless is impossible to improve with culinary craftiness. Might as well eat it raw.
|
Sweet peppers - they make everything taste like, well, sweet peppers. That or cut into strips, fry and coat with old bay. mmmm skinchips/homoskins. nom nom nom.

"I'd like four skins please." hehehehehehe |
I'm sure you'd rather have them "rare" as opposed to "well done".
|
still interesting :-)
Hey ZenGum, some people donated their body for science, which is considered to be generous because it serves a good cause. Now they got ripped of, which bothers most people (me as well actually). But still, I did not expect this bias at this specific place of the net. People get badly ripped off all the time, and usually someone comes up with a wordplay or some kind of cynical comment. People around her are not distracted that easy, I thought. Interesting...
|
Hmm, yes, okay, normally we just make silly jokes and stuff. You're right that this one did get under peoples skin more than most :p but if you pores for thought, you may note we have a goodly number of gags. Still, I a-derma-ire your observativeness.
|
I find myself wondering what people would be thinking of him if he were to make other things ... like lampshades, bookcovers, or a woman suit?
Creepy, creepier, creepiest. I don't like the "art" that involves bodily waste either. Yeah, I'm close-minded that way. |
