Mind officially blown

All those years looking up at a hazy area of the sky, just a little brighter than the rest of the sky. They said it was the Milky Way. And I know what galaxies look like, but somehow I didn't put 2 and 2 together... didn't realize that a set of 20-second exposures, taken overnight from the darkest sky in Texas, and pasted together, might show you...

Oh, that's a good one.

My brother sent me a similar link the other day. http://www.theskyinmotion.com/

You'll probably like a lot of those too.

The stars must be burning out like light bulbs, 'cause there were sure a lot more of them when I was a kid. :haha:

skysidhe 05-22-2009 10:32 AM

amazing shot of the milky way

anyway it was probably the milky way sucking the light out of those stars bruce

I have lots of unscientific ideas!

Aliantha 05-25-2009 03:57 PM

We get a pretty good view of the milky way from down here.

"The arc of the Milky Way seen from a truly dark location is part of our planet's natural heritage," said Connie Walker, and astronomer from the U.S. National Optical Astronomy Observatory in Tucson, Arizona.

Yet "more than one fifth of the world population, two thirds of the U.S. population and one half of the European Union population have already lost naked eye visibility of the Milky Way."

Yeah, but the board is pretty much zipped up tight.

I plan on reposting them all at PD this weekend, though.

DanaC 06-15-2009 10:56 PM

Oh very cool. I'll look out for them.

Kaliayev 06-16-2009 06:53 AM

DanaC 06-16-2009 06:58 AM

Bloody hell. That's seriously disturbing.

Kaliayev 06-16-2009 08:12 AM

That's what happens when you let Scots anywhere near hi-technology, I'm afraid.
