April 11, 2009: Leapin' Lion

I want to ride the tiger
I want to ride the tiger
It will be black and white in the dead of night
Eyes flashing in the clear moonlight
I want to ride the tiger.
Ahem... remember Siegfried & Roy? :eyebrow:

Oh, um... well make that a Lion.

There, much more gooder, but I must confess it's not me. :headshake
It's Askold Zapashny of Zapashny Brothers Circus, in Russia.

Scar or mic?

Crazy Russians. Is that a microphone or a scar on his face? Weird anyway.
Oh, nevermind - it's the fence...

Shawnee123 04-11-2009 06:58 AM

 the fence. I had to look twice.

Clodfobble 04-11-2009 10:59 AM

That's clearly cut-rate armor. It won't protect him for a minute when the time comes.

TheMercenary 04-11-2009 12:42 PM

Not to mention the head and neck will be the first place he takes his bite.

I think the armor is because...

Me. Yow.

darkwing duck 04-11-2009 09:37 PM

The trick isn't riding the lion. The trick is safely getting OFF of the lion.

lumberjim 04-11-2009 09:40 PM

ASLAN!

Just want to say, fan of Seigfried and Roy. Especially Roy and his ability to train. Blah blah blah one of his cats attacked him. Not according to Roy. He believes he'd already had his first stroke when the cat grabbed him, and in fact that the cat had picked up on this and therefore grabbed him and dragged him off stage to protect him. How is a cat supposed to know what else to do? Anyway medically this version can't be authenticated or disproved since Roy had multiple strokes, and the doctors could not determine the time of the first stroke. As we should all know that although Seigfried and Roy have had their last performance, Roy has made a marvelous recovery, well beyond what were the best predictions. He still loves his animals, although spends less time with his big cats.
I watched the documentary a month or two ago, can you tell?
Anyway, this guy looks like a douche.

Elspode 04-11-2009 10:17 PM

Are we pretty sure that isn't a shark?

Dolphin. Definately.

hipshot 04-11-2009 11:47 PM

You can tell the Lion droppings because they have little shards of cheap armor in them...:right:

The middle picture is a gem, Bruce. Extraordinary.

The concept of caging big cats and making them perform tricks totally against their nature is anathema to me though. It brings me over all PETA. And I don't mean naked,

DanaC 04-12-2009 07:20 AM

Me too Sundae. I feel a little queasy when I look at those pictures. I mean...it's a beautiful image, very powerful, but wrong. Just very wrong.

The jungle king, ridden for our amusement.

Pico and ME 04-12-2009 07:31 AM

Its a gorgeous cat, just gorgeous, but it is a sad picture just the same.

dstrope 04-12-2009 11:03 AM

I see your point, but looking a TV shows about lions and how they live, I rarely see one as healthy as this cat. It makes me wonder if this guy isn't better off than his brethren in Africa.
Granted he's not living a "normal" life, but neither is Prince Charles, and many would trade places with him, given their druthers.

He does look healthy, and if he were in a breeding programme, or a safari park I'd agree with you. Sometimes nature is a cold hearted bitch with blood on her teeth. But it still bothers me to see a wild animal used in this way, for a rather tawdry form of entertainment. Just not to my taste.

PS - are you saying that many men out there want a go on Camilla? Lucky girl...

xoxoxoBruce 04-12-2009 07:22 PM

No, his options not choices. :haha:

Aliantha 04-12-2009 07:38 PM

The thing is though, if these types of animals weren't exploited this way, community awareness would be much lower, and therefor lead to less public interest which of course then leads to less public dollars.
