Ancient Astronauts
I was falling asleep last night watching the History Channel and they had a show on about Ancient Astronauts. There were some really interesting things that they brought up. They had found some ruins that we couldn't create even using today's technology and tools. They talked about "Baghdad batteries" and the ancient Egyptians using light bulbs to see in their chambers; some pyramids/ruins built which perfectly match the solar system and so on. I fell asleep and thats about all I remember. Anyone else seen anything about this? It was most interesting.

Yeh - that was it and some place was made of granite stones that were cut so precisely... and some pics of lightbulbs on the walls in hieroglyphics or some shit.
I'd love to see it in its entirety |
|
It must have been an interesting program to have had a 100% falling asleep ratio. :lol2:
|
If aliens came to Earth using Baghdad batteries, they must have been mighty impressive.
|
I remember the big fuss about the so-called landing strips etched into the landscape (I think in Peru). They were supposedly for ancient astronaut space ships.
So lemme see if I get this. A spaceship capable of travelling trillions of miles through space and time needs a landing strip? Please. I read all the Daniken books as a kid and remember just shaking my head in amazement at how anything can look like anything if the bias is strong enough. |
lol - those were claimed to be used for light in the crypts and stuff. They used copper and some orange juice... something else. It was really cool. The guy on tv even showed one that worked.
|
We use shit like that as a stalking horse in our Argument and Critical Thinking courses.
You did well to fall asleep. |

Does anyone even know the name of the show? I would like to see if I can order or rent it if possible.

Ancient Aliens
It was initially tied around the book Chariots of the Gods. I saw almost all of it, until I forced myself to go to bed. It was interesting; I find that stuff fascinating anyway.
Here is the show, along with future showtimes. I'd like to catch it again. I was enthralled with the buildings somewhere made of intricate interlocking stone made from granite and some other substance they said was second only to diamond in hardness (so how did they carve it?) I think they were also saying that sometimes the materials were not to be found in the same region. Here is the forum where people are discussing the show. I definitely need to watch again. No mention of the Outer Space Connection theory of December 24 (?) 2011, but that was more entertainment fodder for an 11 year old girl. ;) |
Synchronicity.
I just watched Stargate over the weekend. One of the specials has some of that stuff. |
thanks, Shawnee - it's on my calendar of Things to Watch. :alien:
|
I think this would be a good time for me to try to figure out how to use my DVR! I need some of those smart aliens to come and help me.
|
Awesome, Thanks - Everyone who can should watch it and we can discuss here - Hey maybe thats a new thread idea. Sorta like the book-of-the-month ... only different.
|
Ooh, I saw it and it was fascinating. A few things that really struck me:
http://www.world-mysteries.com/sar_7.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antikythera_mechanism I'm not sold on the idea of ancient astronauts, but this show really opened my eyes to some interesting and extremely mysterious things. Highly recommended! |

I don't have time to look it up but I think the next showing is tomorrow. Let's all watch it at the same time and pretend we're having a big slumber party. I'll bring the beer; who's got the popcorn?
edit: grr...it's Saturday at 8, I think |

Oh lord no! I edited that part about 3 times between waiting on students and trying to figure out the History Channel's website.
Nah, my shattered heart likes to stay home on the weekends. |

I know there is speculation about how the Egyptians lit the Lighthouse at Alexandria, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. I believe sometimes they may have used mirrors and fire/daylight to light things, or crystals. My ex told me the ancient Greeks had steam-powered engines. I don't know if it's true, but if it is, you have to wonder what else they knew, that we lost and took ages to discover again. hmmm, I guess there is some truth to it... http://campus.udayton.edu/~hume/Steam/steam.htm |
Oh, love those photos. The author of the site went to Univ of Dayton!
I was in heaven when I toured The Berkeley at the Maritime Museum in San Diego. |

They could have used the priciples to do actual work but then would have had to find something else for the slaves and servants to do. The principles wouldn't be used until somebody figured out how to make a buck on it |
I'm going to the store to prepare for the Ancient A's party. Anyone need anything? :)
|
Yes, pick me up a ho... please.
|
I'll see what's in stock, Bruce. I won't get you some bargain basement ho. Nothing but the best ho for you! :)
|
Oh thank you. I'm flattered to know you care enough to give the very best.

Well I am going to the store now to get some ale. :D
Gotta have something to drink while watching the show. So are we going to discuss it here afterwards or something? |
If the methods for building the pyramids were useful or applicable to real life needs, rather than just grandiose projects, they would have been applied and carried down as tribal knowledge. They may very well have, we don't know, but it doesn't matter because we have better ways of building pyramids today.

The show makes the point that the "whole lotta labor" theory is pretty weak; there are still structures that would have been physically impossible without some kind of advanced systems to aid them. Then there's the "why" part of it.

I love the History channel and appreciate it for what it is. They need to rename it. Most of their programs have about as much to do with history as Survivor has to do with survival.

Dear Ancient Astronauts:
Please, I beg you, come back and get me early. I'm ready right now. I'll meet you somewhere if that would be more convenient for you. Bags packed, headed towards the Nazca Lines...should arrive in a day or two. See you soon, and thanks SOOOOO much, Shawnee |

Hey, Bri, will you save me a seat? Finally saw the show - Not sure how convinced I am about the whole light bulb thing, and still want more answers please. |
