COLLEGE!

It's getting to that point... I'm starting to hear back from schools.

I'm IN to MARLBORO!

no response from the rest, yet.

glatt 02-09-2009 07:28 AM

Congratulations, and good luck with the rest of them too!

Sundae 02-09-2009 07:33 AM

As in Marlboro, VT?
I had a few friends that went there and I think you'd fit right in. It's a beautiful part of Vermont.

Shawnee123 02-09-2009 11:09 AM

Nice work Ibby!

Beestie 02-10-2009 06:00 PM

Good work.

If they're smart, they'll accept you.

Urbane Guerrilla 02-13-2009 10:11 PM

Well done. That first acceptance is always wonderful. Have you decided on a major yet?

DanaC 02-14-2009 04:39 AM

Wow. That came around so fast *smiles*

Ready for your awfully big adventure kiddo?

Cloud 02-14-2009 09:43 AM

it can't be too soon. you belong there!

Ibby 02-15-2009 04:47 PM

phone interview with Bennington college tonight. I think they're my #1, besides Emerson which I can't get into anyway. Excited and worried at the same time. I think it'll be okay, though.

Shawnee123 02-15-2009 04:48 PM

I'm so excited for you, Ibby.

What a great time of your life.

classicman 02-15-2009 05:04 PM

Good luck! - get a bullet point list of things you want to cover. Yuo achievements both scholastic, and extra. Al that stuff that highlights why they need you.

Shawnee123 02-15-2009 05:06 PM

Absolutely. Colleges thrive on successful students who add to the myriads of things that draw other students.

Keep us posted.

Ibby 02-15-2009 11:57 PM

I think I knew this, but completely forgot until like, today...

Are you an all-women’s college? When did you go co-ed? Bennington has been co-ed since 1969; prior to that it was a women’s college from its founding in 1932. Today, the female-male ratio is approximately 65:35.

TheMercenary 02-16-2009 07:38 AM

$200,000 for 4 years of a BA or BS? I don't think so.

Griff 02-16-2009 07:57 AM

Bennington is a beautiful town. Are you going to have a chance to visit these campuses?

richlevy 02-16-2009 08:21 AM

Congrats Ibram.

As to former all-women schools, we in the Philadelphia area have the former Beaver College, now Arcadia University.

It went coed in the late 1970's and is still 79:21 female/male.

BTW, here is the StudentsReview for Bennington.

Bullitt 02-16-2009 10:31 AM

Very cool Ibram, good luck! Get to know the professors in your major of study asap, they can be very helpful in and out of the classroom.

I'm pretty sure Ibram wasn't planning on asking you for a loan.

Bennington College has a nice campus, Bennington is far from a beautiful town. Well, about 20 minutes away from where I live. (which is a beautiful town)

Most of the college types don't venture into Bennington, but stay in North Bennington which is very nice. Actually up near the monument in Bennington is very nice and uptown. But the downtown of B is nicht nicht as Bruno would say.

I don't mean to scare the passengers so I will leave out some of the more sordid details about downtown B, but as I've said the campus is very nice, and is a nice place to spend 4 years and hang out with a lot of like minded folks immersing yourselves in the pursuit of whatever you are pursuing.

As colleges go, it is a lot of fun based upon the reports of friends, family, and colleagues who have either attended or taught there.

Griff 02-17-2009 05:38 AM

Ah, didn't realize the difference. I guess that is a good reason to visit.

DanaC 02-17-2009 05:53 AM

$200,000? wow. That's a lot of money. A worthy investment, but still...wow. :P

ZenGum 02-17-2009 06:19 AM

I'm glad we're straight onto the most important factor - male/female ratio.

No, wait, not everyone thinks that way... but that is what religious schools cater for :D

morethanpretty 02-17-2009 07:34 PM

Congrats Ib! I hope wherever you go, you love it.

Won't be that much because half way through his second year he'll be on double secret probation, have gotten two coeds & a full Prof pregnant, and had to flee the country.

Ibby 02-19-2009 11:38 PM

into Towson, in Maryland, too.

2/6 so far...

wolf 02-20-2009 01:08 AM

Bennington, eh?

Well, if you're lucky, maybe your classmates will make you an honorary lesbian.

(happened to a male friend of mine that was in the social work program at Bryn Mawr. He was fairly unique, but he DID take his wife's last name when they got married. I think he ditched the social work gig, though. Burn out comes fast, you know? Last I heard he was running one of those paint it yourself and we'll fire it for you pottery places.)

Yznhymr 02-22-2009 07:13 PM

Congrats. My oldest child has been looking at colleges. We are still waiting for her ACT scores. Can't wait so we can get those applications out.

Let us know what you choose.

I think UG asked...what major are you looking at?

Ibby 02-27-2009 12:17 AM

Either polisci or theatre, depending on where i go. Emerson, definitely theatre. most of the others, probably polisci... bennington, i might do theatre. or a theatre/polisci double major.
