Goals in the food world

I've decided that I am going to make a list of things that I want to do (food wise) in 1 year. December to December. I was going to write a blog  but then decided just to do it on pencil and paper.

I have simple things like roast a chicken, make a cake from scratch, go veggie 4 days a months, cook 1 recipe out of each modern cookbook I have, that kind of thing.

I was wondering what would be on your list.

Maybe span the globe, making one traditional dish from each nation. Of course, this is more Pooka's area; and she pretty much does that already.

The winter is great for baking/roasting and making stews and stuff. Filling the house with yummy warm smells while the cold wind is howling outside.

Flint, I was thinking of that, maybe next year, if this is successful. Or maybe just picking a few nations/cuisines for this year. I will be making pierogies from scratch, so it's a start.

I'd like to experiment more with different flavours. Get more bold and create some really spectacular dishes.

If you're looking for something you can get the family involved with, or maybe just a group of friends who don't mind getting messy, try pupusas. Or a salsa creation contest, completely from scratch (the best way really)

In 2009 I plan to eat a vegetable.

Wrap it in bacon, you'll survive.

I plan to get better organized so we don't eat out so often when my time is cut short by school and work. Things like making double portions when I do cook and freezing half, planning meals in advance so I don't stare at the fridge in a panic at 5 p.m., that sort of thing.

I'm going to find a good burgoo recipe. Love that stuff.

I'm going to make my son eat a more balanced diet. Boy cannot live on chicken nuggets and ramen alone.

I'm finally going to use that pasta maker I bought last spring.

I like the idea of going vegetarian 4 times a month......what day of the week, bro? Is it something with alliteration, like....

no Meat Monday

or Was never alive Wednesday?

HungLikeJesus 11-12-2008 08:51 PM

No face Friday?

DanaC 11-12-2008 08:57 PM

Try to avoid living on Supernoodles for 3 months out of 12...

That leaves what? Rocks?

lumberjim 11-12-2008 09:04 PM

plants are not alive. they are life, but they are not alive

DanaC 11-12-2008 09:08 PM

Really? Because they will at some point be dead....andthat kind of assumes they were alive in the first place.

footfootfoot 11-12-2008 09:23 PM

Let's decide on a definition of "Alive"

DanaC 11-12-2008 09:25 PM

Would this be a good time to raise the topic of zombies?

lumberjim 11-12-2008 09:28 PM

Is eating zombies considered cannibalism?

I think that that will be the name of my first book, "Eating Zombies."

Aliantha 11-12-2008 09:58 PM

I think most zombie meat would be likely to be on the turn a bit don't you? Hmmmm???

J's Daughter: Look, my rose from the cheer competition is still alive.

J's Son: No, it's not.

Daughter: Yuh-huh. Look, it even still smells good.

Son: Nuh-uh, it's dead.

Daughter: You know what I mean. It's still fresh.

Son: But it's dead. They killed it just for YOU!

Daughter: ::wail::

I want to start cooking again!
I loved my bean-heavy veggie stews, chilli, lemon & honey chicken, baked fish with spring onion & ginger and quinoa with random leftovers.

I did, I really loved eating them. Especially when I was properly hungry, ie wasn't snacking between meals.

GOT TO get back into that healthy vibe in the coming year.

*grins* I like the way you've discounted the rest of this year in that lol.

Sundae 11-13-2008 12:14 PM

DanaC 11-13-2008 12:25 PM

I was going more for the "I feel like veggies today" schedule. I got the idea from my brother and sister-in-law. They tried it for a month and didn't last. I figure 4 days is doable.

Maybe no Slaughter Saturday?
