October 3, 2008: Friday Pigs
OK, it's Friday and that means a cute, cuddly, preferably edible, image.
We've seen the racing pigs before, a couple times I think. We've seen they come out of the gate. http://cellar.org/2008/pig1.jpg And we've seen them race around the track http://cellar.org/2008/pig2.jpg But the burning question is, are they forced to do this? Are they being abused by their owners/trainers? Are they being mistreated for the amusement of callous race goers? Is PETA right? Or do the piggies enjoy, nay, look forward with anticipation, to the race? http://cellar.org/2008/pig3.jpg Looks to me like they can't wait to, git 'er done. :D |
I never sau-sage a thing! What a bunch of hams.

Good piggy pictures, thanks |
Fast food!
|
I think pigs are adorable. I wonder why I keep eating them? I should stop.
|
Because you know there's always another one...
in another bar. :haha: |
Everyone with the blowjob jokes...sigh. I wish I didn't like cock so much.
sigh. |
Nay, nay, it was not a gender specific wisecrack. :headshake
|
I don't know man. They don't look too happy in those cages. Kinda creepy, vicious, and defeated all at once.
|
When I lived by a greyhound racing track, we used to bet on ones that peed or pooped on the way to the start gate, they always seemed to place or show. Wonder if it's the same for piglets?
|
mmmm....Bacon :lurker:
|
Bacobaconbacon! Iiiiiiiit's BACON!!!!!
A friend used to have a pot-bellied pig as a pet. His name was Bar-B-Q. The pig not the friend. His name was Tony. The friend not the pig. |
I know someone in Germantown with a watch-pig in her yard. Damn thing attacks anyone who wanders too close to it's doghouse along the front walk.
|
For the pig races at the local strawberry festival every spring, the pigs race to the finish line for Oreos. I bet those pigs in the third picture are just reeeeeaally excited about cookies!
|
Yes, I'm hot to trot for Oreos, too... and Hawaiian Punch, back when it was thicker than cough syrup. My teeth would vibrate, but I wouldn't drift off and burn the couch or carpet. :eek3:

I've seen the piggies in question in action. The show is run by a bloke by the name of Tom Vandeleur. Story goes that he's an Aussie pig farmer who discovered pig racing in the USA and brought it to Australia. He likes to wear big American style "cowboy outfits". When I saw the pigs they looked well cared for and keen to race / dive. My guess is that they get a tasty reward at the finish line and are racing for that. The diving pig definitely had her eyes focused on someone at the edge of the pool who was holding out a hand. Didn't look too keen to jump in, but the treats won her over in the end, and she got a snoutful as soon as she reached the hand.
But they are all piglets (not adult pigs) and I do wonder what happens once their career is over. Do they go to an intensive pig farming facility or to a free range pig farm? Perhaps I'm being cynical and they end their days lounging by a pool, watching the younger pigs train. |
Or maybe the older piggies "retire" from the track and eventually become trainers themselves, teaching the next generation of piggy runners how to do their jobs?
|
... before becoming commentators.
