Processes of elimination

I have a CT (cat) scan tomorrow. I've been having pains in what I think are my womanly parts...they eliminated bladder infection or kidney stones.

They went straight for the CT scan, as opposed to an ultrasound. On one hand, I'm glad because let's do the most efficient and telling test right away, right? On the other hand, however, I'm scared that they think it's serious and so ordered this test because, hey, we don't have a lot of time.

My brain is going in a hundred different directions and I'm scared to pieces.

Anyone, especially women, who has gone through this? I'm actually hoping for ovarian cyst...as opposed to other dire diagnoses.

I go back to doc on Tuesday. It's going to be a long, long, weekend.

Also, for a cat scan, should I take Gaines or Tajjy? ;)

I feel as if I might pass out right here, right now.

Any advice or experience is appreciated.

edit: just to say this here, the laughs I am getting here at the Cellar are really helping me through this. You guys are really great!

I've scanned cats before, but I don't see how this going to help you figure out what is wrong.

Shawnee123 07-02-2008 09:58 AM

heeheee...poor kittehs! :)

kerosene 07-02-2008 10:04 AM

It could be a ruptured cyst. I had one of those and it was super painful. I wasn't able to go to the doctor at the time but a couple of months later, I went in and that's what they found.

Sundae 07-02-2008 10:50 AM

I can't offer anything other than my best wishes.
Keeping everything crossed for you x

glatt 07-02-2008 10:59 AM

Good luck Shawnee, I hope everything goes well.

Did anyone else think a thread in "Health" called "Process of elimination" was going to be about problems with pooping?

jinx 07-02-2008 11:11 AM

I had an ovairan infection once... pretty painful but cleared right up with abx. I had a cat scan when I went in with a nasty sinus infection.... I think maybe sometimes they just like to use the good toys....

Shawnee123 07-02-2008 11:28 AM

Thanks, all, for your words and experiences.

I'm thinking more and more it's probably a cyst. Fingies crossed.

@ glatt: I didn't plan that but noticed later it could be construed as poopin', and as you have said in the past...everybody poops. So, I liked it.

HungLikeJesus 07-02-2008 11:37 AM

Shawnee, I don't know what you have, but the description sounds just like what killed Houdini.

Shawnee123 07-02-2008 11:44 AM

You're a strange man, Jesus.

Wasn't Houdini killed by a punch in the stomach?

I bet I'm missing a reference...HLJ is rarely off in his humor (I almost typed homer...that too.) :)

HungLikeJesus 07-02-2008 11:46 AM

I was just trying to cheer you up.

Today I'm HungOverLikeJesus.

See Good News, Bad News for details at 11.

Shawnee123 07-02-2008 11:48 AM

Ahh, I got my drink on last night, too...tonight it's Barium cocktails!

You do cheer me, man, lots.

Must go read details!

bbro 07-02-2008 12:45 PM

Hope everything goes well. Keep us updated.

After the anal itch thread, I was sure this was going to be about something completely different.

Shawnee - I'm sure it's not easy to be in your shoes right, now. But I suspect that it is far more likely to something easily treatable than something disastrous.

Sending positive thoughts for the discomfort of your choice to be yours!

Griff 07-02-2008 01:43 PM

Good luck Shawnee. Sorry I don't have a smart ass comment.

footfootfoot 07-02-2008 02:09 PM

Ask them if they have the machine that goes "Ping!" and be sure NOT to wear your medicalert bracelet that says "hypochondriac" on it.

PM all of us as soon as you know what the docs say.

Shawnee123 07-02-2008 02:14 PM

Sweeeeet, there's a machine that goes "ping"? :)

I will PM the entire Cellar when I know something, which means I 'll post it here.

Thanks again, you smile-makers, you.

dar512 07-02-2008 03:06 PM

Hospital Administrator: Ah, I see you have the machine that goes ping. This is my favorite. You see we lease it back from the company we sold it to and that way it comes under the monthly current budget and not the capital account.
[Everyone in the room applauds]
Hospital Administrator: Thank you, thank you.

Shawnee123 07-02-2008 04:51 PM

See, I did not remember that.

Clodfobble 07-03-2008 12:43 PM

Hope everything turns out okey-dokey, Shawnee.

DanaC 07-03-2008 03:09 PM

Luck, Shawnee.

Shawnee123 07-07-2008 08:59 AM

Thanks! I go back to Doc tomorrow. The pain has subsided, which is either really good or really bad. What, in between? What's that? ;)

Sundae 07-07-2008 09:09 AM

In between is called life ;)
Here's keeping my fingers crossed for you

Shawnee123 07-07-2008 09:12 AM

:)

That darn life thing again.

Shawnee123 07-09-2008 07:57 AM

So far so good. Have eliminated any major problems from the CT scan. :)

Now they want to eliminate problems with my, er...uh...eliminator. In effect, next stop Colonoscopyville!

I bet those are fun!

Thanks for the well wishes during this time. Having eliminated the things I was scared of most is great for my peace of mind.

Griff 07-09-2008 08:28 AM

I recommend the knock out juice. That'll help get this thing behind you.

Sundae 07-09-2008 08:48 AM

Great news!
Rotten to hear you are still being poked and prodded, but much rellief that it's not the Big C after all. Not to be confused with the c word, although they'll probably poke about in there too...

Keep us updated!

That's good to hear. Always a weight off the shoulders.

You're gonna LOVE colonoscopy!

Especially the prep beforehand! Make sure you drink the Phospho Soda straight. The flavor is something you don't wanna miss. Oh, and do it in the bathroom too.

Be very sure you have unobstructed access to the bathroom. No, you cannot wait for them to flush. Your OWN bathroom. Take my word for it.

And try to avoid letting them use anything that doesn't allow you to sleep through the whole thing, unless you want to watch the camera's progress on the TV. They'll give you Demerol if you want to watch. Just ask!

barefoot serpent 07-11-2008 09:27 AM

yes --- keep us up-se-dated!

Cicero 07-11-2008 12:19 PM

Ouch!
I am not going to make a butt or poop joke............I'm going to hold it back, for once.
:)
Hope it all comes out ok though!

I am something of an expert on colonoscopy. Well, okay...I've had a few, all of which resulted in the removal of the eponymous organ, anyway.

Good points:
1) You get good drugs
2) You get to see pictures of someplace where you'll never be
3) Did I mention the drugs?

Bad points:
1) Someone shoves something up your ass
2) Not only do they not buy you dinner first, but they insist you don't eat for almost a day beforehand.
3) All of the above

Seriously, don't worry. Parts of me hurt all the time. Its the mileage, babe.
