Smart Women on TV. Dead Sexy.

I'm a sucker for smart female characters on TV shows. Right now, my affections are divided. I can't decide who is sexier, Tina Fey on 30 Rock, or Cutty on House.

Either way, mad props to Joss Whedon for the return of the intelligent, witty female fictional character.

Cloud 05-18-2008 11:00 PM

did you see Cutty in the schoolgirl outfit in the dream sequence? A bit skinny for my tastes, but still . . .

smoothmoniker 05-19-2008 01:23 AM

That's what prompted the post.

Cloud 05-19-2008 08:57 AM

they even had her pole dancing. I wonder what the actress thought of all that.

Trilby 05-19-2008 10:58 AM

I know it's showbiz and all that but something inside of me wilts a little when I see Cuddy (that's how she spells it) wearing those tit-baring tops. No respectable hosp. chief -or whatever she is- would be caught dead in that stuff. Look at the other women docs---they don't dress like that on the show. Every time House makes a nasty comment about her blouse I think, "well, she kinda asked for that,"

does that make me old fashioned?

SteveDallas 05-19-2008 11:29 AM

Yes. Everybody knows bare tits are the best way for a professional woman to earn the respect of her colleagues. How else is she supposed to maintain credibility with the hospital's senior management?
[/snark]

Clodfobble 05-19-2008 12:18 PM

Cuddy's outfits don't bother me, but her wilting before House's behavior irritates me. She's a hell of a lot sexier when she stands up to him. Plus, she's smart, but not witty, which counts a lot more with me.

I vote Tina Fey. You know, if I were into chicks. The hottest thing ever would be Tina Fey making out with Stephen Colbert.

I'd adopt that child. :)

Hmmmmm. So that's my problem is it? Well, I'm off to class sans top! I hope I get an A today!! [/joke as you would all barf if you saw my taped-up, marked-up tit]

Cloud 05-19-2008 12:57 PM

what about Emily Deschanel on Bones? Not to mention the other two female characters in the cast; head of the lab and the artist lady.

Flint 05-19-2008 01:33 PM

I have seen the ultimate fantasy girl, around my facility.

She's a cute, young, black girl with a hot body, wearing tight jeans, a hardhat, and carrying blueprints -- she's apparantly a construction manager or works for an engineering firm or something. She looks so hot, walking around looking all important and giving orders and stuff. Oh, man.

Clodfobble 05-19-2008 01:43 PM

I must also assume she has a huge booty, as that seems to be your thing. ;)

I want a girl who gets up early
I want a girl who stays up late
I want a girl with uninterrupted prosperity
Who uses a machete to cut through red tape
With fingernails that shine like justice
And a voice that is dark like tinted glass
She is fast, thorough, and sharp as a tack
She's touring the facility and picking up slack
I want a girl with a short skirt,
And a long, long jacket

Cake, Short Skirt Long Jacket

It's a nice, round booty. Not "huge" but perfectly balanced with her nice, round boobs. She's perfectly shaped. And she wears a hardhat!

Trilby 05-19-2008 04:17 PM

Flint is right. Hardhats are really, really cool on chicks.

I used to work in a steel mill and every time we had to run out there we had to put on hard-toe boots, goggles, a flame-retardant jacket and a yellow hard hat. We looked so fuckin' cool, we'd get asked out while we were doing CPR.

Good times...

DucksNuts 05-19-2008 08:51 PM

Im going to buy a hardhat

Elspode 05-19-2008 09:45 PM

Jamie...Lee...Curtis.

I win.

Girl, you *give* me a hardhat.

Clodfobble 05-20-2008 10:20 AM

I know a lot of guys who feel that way about cowboy hats on chicks.

classicman 05-20-2008 10:46 AM

I'm one of 'em - Love the cowGIRL hat!

Nobody beats Chick Corea, at the "red shoes" game.
Although this is the best picture I can find as evidence...

Sundae 05-20-2008 03:32 PM

Interesting that all the "smart women on TV" are all beautiful actresses reading scripted lines.

Now I can name smart men on TV that I find sexy who are not reading other people's lines. But honestly? No women come to mind. I admit this might be because I'm more partial to men than women. But I'd be interested to get a male POV.

Clodfobble 05-20-2008 06:18 PM

Oh no way--Tina Fey is genuinely smart (she was a writer long before she got on camera) and her face is not conventionally pretty. The rest of the ones mentioned though, I don't know, I've never seen them be interviewed.

Sundae 05-20-2008 06:26 PM

My apologies, I had never heard of her, I simply assumed she was on a par with Cuddy from House - who is an actress.

We don't get your SNL here, so they won't buy 30 Rock either (I assume).

smoothmoniker 05-20-2008 06:52 PM

I've never met a dumb person who reads intelligent writing well. Really.

Clodfobble 05-20-2008 07:12 PM

Martin Sheen. Maybe it's just awkwardness with the press, but the man comes off as a complete idiot in interviews.

Shawnee123 05-21-2008 07:27 AM

I watch closely in interviews as well. You can tell a lot about a person. Vapid people bore me to tears: all the glitz and glamour in the world can't mask stupidity.

Real smart woman? Lara Logan of CBS News.

Oh, and I haven't watched SNL in years and don't get 30 Rock, but I've seen Tina Fey in other things and she is pretty cool.

Undertoad 05-21-2008 08:46 AM

She's very cool, she wrote and starred in that "Mean Girls".

I think Sheen is a smart guy who lacks social skills, and has bad ideas politically. Together, that can add up to some pretty awkward interviews.

Shawnee123 05-21-2008 11:05 AM

Well, and the skills of the interviewer come into play as well. The King: Johnny Carson, could interview anyone and be funny without being disrespectful. He made people look good.

Leno is a lousy interviewer. The forcedness and the fake laugh...it's painful to watch. Letterman is only slightly better; he fares better if the interviewee happens to be good at the game. Craig Ferguson has the intelligence and insight to get a good interview out of just about anyone.

Remember when Barbara Walters thought she was a respected interviewer? I saw a clip where she was interviewing Johnny Carson and he gave her a sly shot about "what kind of tree am I? You're not going to ask me that are you? Are you kidding?"

SteveDallas 05-21-2008 12:58 PM

Larry King has got to be up there with the worst... he used to brag that he never actually read the guest's book or anything like that.

Cloud 05-21-2008 01:14 PM

we discussed some of this before here: http://cellar.org/showthread.php?t=1...t=actors+smart

Flint 05-21-2008 02:08 PM

I always liked the way David Letterman takes charge of the conversation. You can't steer in a different direction than where he wants to go.

Unless you're Madonna.

Shawnee123 05-21-2008 03:00 PM

I remember the days when Letterman's favorite guest was Teri Garr. They really worked comedy well together.

richlevy 05-21-2008 08:59 PM

I wasn't sure if you meant actresses playing parts or news commentators.

Mika Brzezinski is pretty hot. The fact that she talks about doing shots of vodka just adds bonus points.

Rachel Maddow is sort of cute in the k.d. lang, androgynous lesbian kind of way.

Of course, the conservatives have their babes.

This leads to the Babe Theory of Political Movements, which states that either through cause (guys follow babes) or effect (babes follow trends), the majority of babes indicates the success of a movement.

The conservative guy claims that conservative women are hotter, (not counting Hollywood). Of course he seems to have overlooked the sea of liberal college babes in the Obama camp.

So, while smart and sexy female fictional, it's the real smart and sexy female characters that are going to be making the big difference in the next few months.

spudcon 05-22-2008 10:29 AM

Martin Sheen is not a smart guy, but he plays one on TV. True of many other people also.

Shawnee123 05-22-2008 10:30 AM

I'm not a smart man, Jennnneh. But I know what love iz.

I find Tina Fey attractive, but I wouldn't consider her past writing as evidence of her intelligence. She was a writer for SNL during the most cringe worthy and least funny period of its existence.

... where Weekend Update was one of the few redeeming segments on the show, which she wrote and anchored.

You will all be happy, I'm sure, to know that Dr. Cuddy has been placed at number 4 on Cracked's List of Most Gratuitously Cleavaged Women on TV.
