When the fuck are the religious right in America going to get it through their thick skulls that America is a secular nation made up of people from all religions and that none of those religions should be legislated onto others?

We got one.

Radar 02-16-2008 09:41 AM

I've seen that one, but I really don't count it. It's more like a mini osprey and it's really loud. A flying car in my book is no louder than a regular car, and it can be driven equally on the ground or in the air. So you can drive, take off while driving in the air, and land on the ground and drive more at normal speeds, with normal maneuvering capability, until you get to your final destination.

Although, now that I think about it, in all the fake videos of flying cars, buildings in the future were so tall, they reached miles into the air so a car could just pull in to the garage at that level.

This means the car needs to be able to stop while in mid-air and hover (floating stop signs) and be able to pull into a garage and stop super high. It also needs to have the same passenger load, and cargo load ability as a normal car.

Radar 02-16-2008 09:47 AM

I just noticed something on that skycar website. Watch the videos of the car being tested for hovering. Everything looks normal until you see it drift to one side, and then you realize it's attached to a crane.

. . . by which time you'll be snorting at these young kids with their new-fangled flying cars while you're puttering around in your 2020 Nissan ("They knew how to make GOOD cars back then!!").

lumberjim 02-16-2008 11:30 AM

bah...by then, 80 will be the new 60. I'll be trying to learn to gravboard or something

zippyt 02-16-2008 11:35 AM

With your bionic hip replacement and all

I did see the crane, but I didn't see a cable.

I heard what you mean about the noise, that thing's way too loud for a car. Of course, it is the first of its kind, or so I thought. I'm sure they'll come up with quieter, and more car-like models in the future.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_...pment_examples.

Or do you want something more like this?

lumberjim 02-16-2008 04:43 PM

like this!

Drax 02-16-2008 05:27 PM

I'd be glad to give Milla a ride. :D :doit:

Oh, man, you don't want to go there.

I want you to imagine today's traffic, with all the idiots and morons all doing their idiot things behind the wheel of a car. Speeding, running red lights, cutting off other drivers where the lane merges, driving while intoxicated, causing accidents, that sort of thing.

Now imagine these idiots in a flying car, while remembering that plane crashes are often fatal.

I find it bad enough just sharing the road with these idiots. Somehow the idea of all those idiots given the ability to fly doesn't inspire me with a great deal of confidence.

Shawnee123 03-11-2008 08:24 AM

Don't worry, Spacely Sprockets has invented all kinds of devices to prevent in-air collisions.

Don't worry, by that time all traffic will be completely computer-controlled. The computers will decide everything. The computers will keep us safe. The computers will decide when we merge, how fast we go, and how much space we need between vehicles.

Shawnee123 03-11-2008 08:47 AM

Yeah, like I said. ;)

xoxoxoBruce 03-11-2008 11:14 PM

Computers will prevent crashes? :comp1:

SteveDallas 03-12-2008 09:26 AM

Of course they will, Bruce. They know better than we do. Do not question the computers.

spudcon 04-04-2008 10:54 AM

So, when are we here in the States gonna get a REAL presidential candidate?

Sundae 04-04-2008 07:58 PM

So when am I going to get soma (Brave New World stylee)?
I wouldn't mind if the Gubbmint kept the poor in a permanently semi-cabbaged state, as long as I was one of them.
