minor perfume rant

I like perfume. I wear it for myself and enjoy it. But I like so few! And the ones I like tend to get discontinued after a while! :headshake

With most perfumes I try, I either go ick right away, or go yum, then ick when it gets down to the lower notes. And it's so expensive, you really can't buy it without trying it on, and stores have become very stingy about samples.

I did find a cheap perfume recently I like, and I never like cheap perfumes, so that makes me happy.

In fact, I think I'll spray some on now!

Cloud 02-02-2008 10:38 AM

you guys stink!

;)

I, on the other hand, smell as sweet as pie. Just obviously not humble pie!

monster 02-02-2008 10:39 AM

I think you're using the perfume to disguise the aroma of whatever you've been smoking....

classicman 02-02-2008 11:22 AM

^ doesn't work^

Cloud 02-02-2008 01:29 PM

no yum? no ick? aw . . .

:ivy:

lumberjim 02-02-2008 11:16 PM

that wasn't much of a rant, cloud.

i don't wear perfume. i hate it when men wear too much. i always cal them on it and make fun of them.

i used to wear a little patchouli.....but now i don't even own anything.

Cloud 02-03-2008 09:50 AM

I only put it on heavily when I'm at home, 'cause too much at work or something can be offensive.

smelly stuff, yay!

'course, soap and water enhances one's natural odor, so you can always go with that.

TheMercenary 02-03-2008 03:37 PM

Most perfume is nasty. If you put it on right before you get out of your car, every person who walks behind you on the way into work has to smell your crap. Use it reasonably. Don't spray it and get on the elevator right after that. People who use to much perfume piss me off. I want to be able to smell it when I put my face between your breasts, not 20 feet behind you. :D

Aliantha 02-03-2008 04:24 PM

The nicest fragrance ever is Narciso Rodriguez. It's the one I use most. Another one that I like is Yvress (used to be called champagne) but it makes Dazza sneeze, so I don't wear it much these days. I recently bought a bottle of Mediterainean by Elizabeth Arden. It's nice, but mostly just for day wear.

It's important to wear a perfume that suits you or it just stinks to everyone around you. One that I can't stand no matter who's wearing it is Dune. It's just an overpowering stinky smell and it gives me a headache.

Cloud 02-03-2008 08:36 PM

9 out of 10 I smell just smell nasty to me, too. I'd buy more, expensive though it is, if I could find more I like. My fave is Gucci Rush--discontinued. I like Fresh Sugar--discontinued. (sigh)

Look on E-bay.

Aliantha 02-03-2008 09:45 PM

don't buy perfume off ebay! EVER!!! It's fake.

Cloud 02-03-2008 09:50 PM

some might be, but not all of it. You just have to be careful. In fact, I did buy some Fresh Sugar from Ebay--and it is authentic.

Aliantha 02-03-2008 09:52 PM

I only ever bought two bottles from ebay. One was chanel No. 5 and the other was Yveress. Both were not authentic.

No wonder they were cheap. I was very upset.

Cloud 02-03-2008 10:20 PM

make no mistake, it's caveat emptor on ebay. sorry you got burned, Ali.

Aliantha 02-03-2008 10:22 PM

these things happen. If you pay cheap you get cheap I guess. I think I'll stick to buying from reputable retailers for important stuff like perfume in future. :)

Strawberrynet great for perfumes and cosmetics.

Funny - If you go to the "Other Countries" Tab on the left it lists Alaska, USA as a country.

Probably because shipping-wise, it is.

Aliantha 02-04-2008 04:17 PM

Great site thanks Ducks!

classicman 02-04-2008 07:08 PM

I know that "momster" - I just thought it was humorous that they listed it as another country -

euphoriatheory 02-04-2008 07:23 PM

I agree that most women who wear too much perfume are trying too hard. Personally, I was always taught to spritz behind myknees, because it's not so overwhelming (and the scent floats upward anyway).

I must make one exception to this rule. I find little old ladies who wear too much perfume and bad lipstick absolutely adorable. Especially if it's a Lily of the Valley or Lilac scent. :biggrinlo

just as long as it really is enough to mask the urine smell....

Shawnee123 02-05-2008 08:04 AM

This thread would have been way better had it been Scratch and Sniff.

I just like body sprays, like Bath and Body Works stuff, cucumber melon or night blooming jasmine. Yummmm.

I agree. I don't want to smell anyone unless I choose to smell them. If I choose to get in their personal space (within 1-2 feet) then it's OK if I get a slight whiff of perfume. Otherwise, I don't want to smell it.

Urbane Guerrilla 02-08-2008 12:56 PM

I like bay rum. Royall's gotten frightfully expensive, but there are others.

lookout123 02-08-2008 01:36 PM

i wear stink pretties pretty much every day. why? cuz i want to. this year's rotation is Armani Code and Kenneth Cole Black. Both are really mellow and you'd have to be standing pretty damn close to me to know I'm wearing anything.

I like when women wear really soft scents too.

HungLikeJesus 02-08-2008 02:52 PM

I rub a little bacon grease on the back of my neck and under each arm; it seems to work.

Cloud 02-08-2008 06:32 PM

"stink pretties" hah! I like that. And Shawnee, I can't like bathandbodyworks cheapo body sprays--because after the top note wears off, they all have the same base (which smells notsonice).

Interesting to me the way we all have different sensitivities and dislikes.

I certainly agree that too much scent in public is a nuisance. The way I really like to wear my perfume is to load it on when I'm alone at home (which is most of the time I'm not working); wear it to bed, etc. That way I can really enjoy it as a complete scent-ual experience and not worry about bugging other people with it.

Urbane Guerrilla 02-09-2008 08:23 PM

That's not why you picked "Cloud" as a handle. Is it? (gulp!)

Cloud 02-10-2008 12:37 AM

not even close.

you can breathe now. :)
