What sort of Pie am I today?

Okay, so I've been encouraged to decide what sort of Pie I am, on a regular basis.

Yesterday, I was little individual blueberry pies, two of them.
Today, I am pumpkin pie.

Waitress:

Jenna: I Hate My Husband Pie... You take bittersweet chocolate and don't sweeten it. You make it into a pudding and drown it in caramel

Jenna: Earl Murders Me Because I'm Having An Affair Pie... You smash blackberries and raspberries into a chocolate crust
Jenna: I Can't Have No Affair Because It's Wrong And I Don't Want Earl To Kill Me Pie... Vanilla custard with banana. Hold the banana.
Jenna: Pregnant Miserable Self Pitying Loser Pie... Lumpy oatmeal with fruitcake mashed in. Flambé of course

Aliantha 12-10-2007 03:41 PM

What a cute thread Pie. Can't wait to see what sort of pie you are tomorrow!

binky 12-10-2007 05:23 PM

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought the exact same thing. I loved the pies she made in that movie.

"Porcupine pie, porcupine pie, porcupine pie
Vanilla soup
A double scoop please
Maybe I want, maybe I want
Maybe I'll have
The Tutti-Fruit, with Fruity Bleu Cheese
Ah, but porcupine pie porcupine pie porcupine pie
It weaves its way through my dreams!

Even though it may sound a little strange,
You have to eat it with gloves, or your hands will turn green..."

One of my favorite Neil Diamond songs.

Pie 12-11-2007 01:44 PM

Today, I am a deep-dish apple pie, with a slice of cheddar cheese.
(And a cup of coffee.)

Shawnee123 12-11-2007 01:55 PM

:yum: Then today you are deeeeeeeeeeeeee-lishus!

Trilby 12-11-2007 03:47 PM

I am Percocet Pie. I am expensive and require a prescription.

tomorrow I will be Remorse Pie.

I soon hope to be well enough to be banana cream pie OR lemon meringue.

Aliantha 12-11-2007 04:04 PM

I could make you a nice lemon merangue pie. Might not make the plane trip too well though.

[extract from On Food, by Hilaire Belloc]
... In Massachusetts all the way
From Boston down to Buzzards Bay
They feed you till you want to die
On rhubarb pie and pumpkin pie,
And horrible huckleberry pie,
And when you summon strength to cry,
"What is there else that I can try?"
They stare at you in mild surprise
And serve you other kinds of pies. ...

Cloud 12-11-2007 07:00 PM

would you believe me if I said I was Humble Pie today?

shina 12-11-2007 08:14 PM

huckleberry. Nice and thick, sticky, warm please.....oh...sorry..we were to be talking about pies. Yes, huckleberry.

Aliantha 12-11-2007 08:16 PM

What does a huckleberry taste like? I don't think I've ever even seen one.

That is LMP's great weakness. Meringue that moist does not travel; make it onsite. Even a car trip across town can make the meringue get a bit goopy. It's nice how the first thing it soaks is the graham cracker crust, but if it gets on the upholstery, uh oh.

And it's kind of expensive mailing those heavy little cans of condensed milk, too. ;)

I haven't either, despite their several species and wide distribution throughout North America and parts of Europe.

Huckleberries, bilberries, whortleberries

Pie 12-12-2007 02:45 PM

I am a cherry lattice pie.

(You are all welcome to weigh in on what type of pie you are, but I will let you know what kind I am. Just sayin'.)

Trilby 12-13-2007 07:11 AM

I LOVE cherry lattice pie!

I am blueberry with cheddar on top. I like it gluey.

Pie 12-13-2007 11:34 AM

Today I am: Chicken Pot Pie

- That is all -

pic 01 -- Red Huckleberries (early in the camping season and high on the bush. later and lower they're gone... just ... gone.) Tart and beautiful, translucent, luminous coral colored fruit, they are delicious.

pic 02 -- Blue Huckleberries (far rarer, just as delicious but not as sublimely beautiful). There is a pair of red huckleberries in the background.

Pie 12-14-2007 09:17 AM

Pizza pie, with mushrooms and pepperoni.
And a Dr. Pepper.

Shawnee123 12-14-2007 09:34 AM

Ooooh, I love that you're not always a fruit pie, Pie! :)

Like a mixed berry.
BigV is right...a bit tart but really good. I found out you can get huckleberry syrup in this neighborhood.

ZenGum 12-14-2007 11:36 AM

So ... how long do you reckon Pie is going to be able to keep this up? Just how many kinds of pie are there? I await eagerly...

Yznhymr 12-14-2007 02:52 PM

Right now I am an Olallieberry pie.

Urbane Guerrilla 12-14-2007 11:09 PM

Rhubarb lattice. No strawberries in the mix; they dilute the rhubarb.

Tomorrow, rhubarb custard. For rhubarb plays well with custard.

Pie 12-16-2007 10:07 AM

Yesterday: A blackberry slump. (It got dropped on the floor, but was salvageable.)

Today: Tart Tatin

Razzmatazz13 12-16-2007 07:16 PM

Pie plays by the 5 second rule, I see...

Pie 12-16-2007 08:30 PM

It was still in the pie-pan, just not presentable to guests.

xoxoxoBruce 12-17-2007 01:19 AM

You're a Cutie Pie, every day.

oddest quiz answer. I'm a grape pie. Looks more like berry then grapes.

Pie 12-17-2007 08:24 AM

Spinach and feta quiche. With bacon.

Pie 12-18-2007 08:42 AM

Instant-pudding banana cream pie. With generic, soggy nilla wafer crust.
I'm tired.

binky 12-18-2007 11:52 AM

rhubarb, because I'm making it

Yznhymr 12-19-2007 01:05 PM

Today's a new day and today I think I am a Mayhaw Pie!

Pie 12-20-2007 08:21 AM

On the 19th, I was Frito chili pie.
Today, I am peach cobbler.

(I am posting from my nokia 770, so pardon my brevity. I forgot my charger for my laptop, aaaaargh.)

Urbane Guerrilla 12-22-2007 05:13 AM

Mayhaws I've never encountered. From a little distance I'd mistake the tree for a crabapple, especially when in fruit.

Pie 12-23-2007 07:39 PM

Wow, it's been a while.
On the 21st, I was a zwetschgendatsche (damson plum tart)
On the 22nd, I was a cranberry-almond crostata.
Today, I am a honey, rosewater and pistachio pie -- baklava!

Tomorrow, Pie, you should be a mince pie in honour of Christmas.
Standard festive fare here.

Mincemeat (as opposed to mince/d meat) doesn't contain meat technically. Although it does contain suet if it is the genuine article. It's a dark, sticky mix of dried fruit - sweet and slightly gritty. I'm not over-fond of the old mince pies, but I end up eating at least one a year.

Urbane Guerrilla 12-25-2007 12:32 AM

Hey, the Recipe thread says mince pies for Christmas.

Pie 12-25-2007 05:24 PM

With all due respect to our English brethren, today I am a Black Forest Pie.

Pie 12-27-2007 10:26 PM

Yesterday I was galaktoboureko pie.

Pie 12-27-2007 10:28 PM

Today I am a mixed berry streusel pie.

busterb 12-27-2007 10:34 PM

Pie. Think you missed, sweet tater pie? I can do this!

Pie 12-27-2007 11:40 PM

buster, it's definitely a possibility. :)
Any day now. When I feel all potato-ey. And sweet.

busterb 12-27-2007 11:47 PM

Happy days to you PIE. bb

Urbane Guerrilla 12-29-2007 01:54 AM

Should this thread start including links to recipes? Hint hint.

Galaktoboureko

Pie 12-29-2007 10:08 PM

Yesterday, I was a Bumbleberry Pie. (I had no idea such a thing existed till I became one.)
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1231/...7c2240a634.jpg

Pie 12-29-2007 10:11 PM

Today I am a Creamy Pear Pie.
No picture, sorry.

(Thanks for the hint, UG. I can't claim to really "be" the recipe, but I'll try to make sure it's somewhat representative of my current or past state of being.)

Yznhymr 12-29-2007 11:41 PM

Today I am a Moon Pie with an ice cold can of R.C. Cola.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi..._trademark.gif http://www.solarnavigator.net/solar_...oyal_crown.JPG

Urbane Guerrilla 01-01-2008 02:43 AM

There was a rotund guy in the movie Pass The Ammo with such a penchant for Moon Pies that he distinctly resembled one. The butterscotch kind.

It's a movie Tim Curry fans should see -- he plays an evil televangelist. Getting caught.

Pie 01-02-2008 11:27 PM

Dec 30th: Pirog (Russian jam pie)
Dec 31st: Refrigerator Pie (using up the leftovers!)
Jan 1st: nian gao with red bean paste (recipe)
Jan 2nd: venison pie

Undertoad 01-11-2008 02:30 PM

Shepherd's?

Urbane Guerrilla 01-14-2008 01:36 AM

Shepherds' Pie à la mode: mashed potato is scooped with an ice cream scoop and it's decorated with a hot cherry pepper on top.

Shepherds' Pie Al Pastor? This is a good dish or an atrocious pun.
