Bah Humbug

Just a rant here- I think I am going to quit watching TV until after Christmas, I am already so tired of the "Christmas Sale ads":mad2:

It's worse when you're watching and know it would have to be nearly free for you to be able to afford to give it to a loved one.

Damn commercialism.

binky 11-29-2007 01:02 PM

Exactly

classicman 11-29-2007 01:08 PM

I third that.... unfortunately.

binky 11-29-2007 01:13 PM

I was surprised.

The results have been impressive. Lexus now sells more vehicles in December than in any other month, and the campaign has spurred similar ads from rivals, including General Motors and Jaguar.

...

"I didn't think that happened until I sat on the showroom floor and heard someone say, 'I'm not going to pick the car up until the 24th,' " said Rosario Criscuolo, the owner of two Lexus dealerships in Michigan. "It blew my mind. But if your wife needs a car, it's a good way to do it, right? It saves you from having to go to the malls."

Mr. Criscuolo said that each year, about a half-dozen customers wait until Christmas Eve to pick up their new cars.

And the demand for the oversize red bows is so strong that Lexus stockpiles them in a warehouse near its North American headquarters in Torrance, Calif.

WTF is wrong with people?? My daughter will be getting my husbands (at that point) 7 yr old truck when she can drive

Sundae 11-29-2007 04:49 PM

My new one is becoming saggy already due to weight loss
I'll have to get re-measured over Christmas

Oh, sorry

binky 11-29-2007 05:13 PM

ZenGum 11-30-2007 07:33 AM

This sums up my thoughts about Christmas. :) "Christmas Is Pain!"

This guy (Roy Zimmerman, allegedly) has a dozen or so quite funny to very funny satirical songs on his YouTube page. This one is the most explicit Dylan parody.

I'm pretty humbug about Yule this year. We are dissolving the coven (which I've already stepped out of in order to pursue music more), although we will continue to hold open Sabbat rituals for the community, including Yule. However, our finances are so tight that Xmas giving is going to be extremely curtailed. I try not to worry about it too much, but we do love to give - getting is not such a big deal, because we have *so much* already. Wonderful home, great kids, exciting and intriguing lifestyle, steady employment, plentiful cheap food, friends out the ying yang and the respect of our associates.

Still, it is difficult to completely dismiss the consumer frenzy that is Xmas in this country. Habits of a lifetime are hard to put aside. I feel bad for the kids, even though they're all adults, because they aren't going to get the usual lavishment of trendy gifts that we've always given them. Deserving friends will have to make do with a hug and a hearty "love ya, bro".

So humbug it is. I've been pondering whether or not I can actually be a *really* bad boy so that Santa will bring me a lot of coal. At least I can burn that and save on the gas bill.

Pie 11-30-2007 08:01 PM

Go ahead, be a really bad boy. You may (or may not) get coal, but at least you'll have enjoyed yourself in the process.

I may be able to afford a bottle of ArmorAll for my 17 year old to clean the dashboard of his new 1989 Honda if I'm lucky. He has to pay for the car, of course. Not a bad deal, though...only 300k miles on the body, and the engine only has about 20k on it.
