What weird shit do you covet/collect?

After AJ's little thread about his weird pig fetish, I thought it time the rest of us fessed up to our funky little collections.

I collect Betty Boop stuff, weird Goth things and Robbie Williams memorabilia.

My Mum collects all things chickens. Figurines, rugs, stuffed versions and the real two legged variety.

Oh, I also just collect ugly things that appeal to me :)

Aliantha 10-24-2007 07:10 AM

I don't know if it's a fetish...AJ's pig thing. Isn't a fetish something sexual usually? lol

AJ, are you turned on by pics of pigs and their bits?

My sis in law does collect ornamental pigs. She even wants to get one for a pet. I advised her not to, on the grounds that it's likely to get all cooked and eaten.

I don't collect anything except children at the moment. Very boring.

jester 10-24-2007 09:55 AM

Every year I get a new Disney Jacket, it's weird I know. I have a Pooh Bear jean jacket w/hood, Tigger jean jacket, Grumpy jacket (grey flannel like w/black leather sleeves) and last year I got a Pirates of the Caribbean jacket.

One more thing - I also collect "Eyeore" (stuffed kind)

How John managed to get them all on one page is ... astonishing.....

Typewriters. Old typewriters...it used to be electric ones too...But now it's just manual antiques. They are getting more and more expensive, and now I have to save to get my new one from a dealer who is stingy with them. First I have to talk to him into it...and then it will be pricey. He owns one of the last typewriter stores in the united states...and it just so happens to be in the town right next to me.

Now that this is brought up....if you are getting rid of one pm me first. Some people just throw them out or donate them. They are hard to ship because of the weight...but I will pay for shipping costs and for the typewriter itself if it is a good deal. I deal with typewriters that don't function if they are a model and brand I like, but I prefer ones that are still functional.

Wow. I just bored myself. Welcome to my particular brand of geekdom.

:)

Dammit, as a kid (early 1980s) I bought an old typewriter ... 1920s Royal with glass sides, good condition. I went to great lengths to try to get rid of it about 10 years ago, but no one had even the slightest interest. Dunno where it is now. Probably gone somewhere. I'll check.

Shawnee123 10-24-2007 12:12 PM

I think the old typewriters is very interesting. I love old stuff like that, once state of the art. Very cool.

Cicero 10-24-2007 12:27 PM

I'm with the Denver Art Musuem on this one. They used to have an exhibit that displayed them as art. They are art to me, and the lettering they produce is also very sexy.....with just the right paper..oooh. I'm a freak. I'll just say it.
:)

I think this stems from my lithographia so it just gets weirder from there....

Yes, I have developed relationships with each of my typewriters, and the ones I haven't, well.....they get tossed.

Zen...yes, please see if you still have it around...that one sounds very interesting. I love Royals, as my manual "portable" Royal Safari from the 60's happens to be my favorite. I have ones that are of greater value but that little Royal still has my heart.

That said....Yes, my husband knew about all of this before he married me.
:D

ZenGum 10-24-2007 12:34 PM

typewriters .... post counts .... weighs up .... :)

HungLikeJesus 10-24-2007 12:41 PM

I wouldn't really say I collect watches, because I consider a collector to be someone who has specific knowledge, looks for certain makes and models, knows which ones are valuable and which are junk, etc., but I have a lot of watches. My wife and I, between us, have 40 or 50 watches, mostly mechanical (manual or automatic wind, but without batteries). I do have 5 or 6 watches that are really computers, but those don't count.

I posted a picture of one pocket watch in the "What's the oldest thing you own?" thread.

The nice thing about collecting watches is that they don't take up much room, as opposed to typewriters, motorcycles or full-size train cars.

Crimson Ghost 10-24-2007 02:23 PM

I collect masonic items.

And human skulls.

If the feds ever raid my place, you'll see me on the news.
"Top story of the day - Masonic Mass Murderer Captured - News at 11"

At least I know I'll make it to Fark, Rotten, and Ogrish.

Spexxvet 10-24-2007 02:59 PM

I collect dust.

Sundae 10-24-2007 03:02 PM

I collect hard skin. I keep it on my feet.

bluecuracao 10-24-2007 06:46 PM

I've got all sorts of junk, but one of my favorite collections are my handbags. Many of them are beaded, a few are vintage, and some just have an interesting design. I also have a nice collection of cocktail dresses from the 50's and 60's.

DucksNuts 10-24-2007 09:44 PM

Ohhh, then, I collect shoes, watched and handbags...oh and jeans.

Apparently, the average *person* has 5 pairs of jeans.

I have over 30

shuddup

Crimson Ghost 10-25-2007 12:22 AM

I don't know how weird it is, but I also collect dragon related items.

I have over 30

I do not own a single pair of jeans at present (although I am bidding £1.01 for a pair in the next size that will fit me on eBay)

I believe this means you have my jeans Ducks
I'd like them back please

Aliantha 10-25-2007 04:28 AM

aspirational jeans! ;)

DucksNuts 10-25-2007 07:14 AM

You can have them SG ;)

I love jeans, then I have to buy shoes and then the watch, bracelet etc etc

Aliantha 10-25-2007 05:13 PM

I got an awesome pair of shoes to wear with my jeans for summer this year. I should post a pic.

DucksNuts 10-25-2007 07:37 PM

hook me up

Aliantha 10-25-2007 09:36 PM

yes, I love them.

SteveDallas 10-25-2007 10:10 PM

Hmm. I feel like I ought to have a list here but I don't have anything... weird.

rkzenrage 10-26-2007 02:33 AM

I have a lot of shoes, I used to have a lot of books.

Sundae 10-26-2007 03:56 AM

Pretty, pretty Ali
Sadly all I can see in my mind's eye if I had those shoes is how much I would bleed breaking them in :(

Aliantha 10-26-2007 04:02 AM

They're actually really comfortable SG. Honestly. I'm a boots and comfort shoes type chick these days, so it was with some trepidation that I tried these ones on, and what do you know? They're very comfortable even though they are a bit high.

Sundae 10-26-2007 04:05 AM

I still have the scars from going out in flip flops when it was sunny earlier this week.

I hadn't worn them for months (had no nail varnish to put on my trotters back then) so my feet went into alien attack mode and I came home with two bleeding blisters.

Ridiculously soft feet, which is why I deliberately let them harden underneath - I get blisters on the soles of my feet when trying to break in heels you know. Sigh.

Aliantha 10-26-2007 04:08 AM

wow...I can't imagine getting blisters from flip flops (thongs). You must be a really big old softy.

Sundae 10-26-2007 03:30 PM

I won those eBay jeans btw. Long leg, bootcut, diamante on pockets - 99p! Incentive clothing rocks.

And I am sorely missing jeans, and will do more as the winter comes on - I live in jeans in cold weather. So these go under the heading of necessary expenditure, the fact they are cool jeans (to me at least) is a bonus conferred by being willing to buy second hand.

Dingleschmutz 10-26-2007 03:34 PM

Football (soccer) jerseys. I think I have 6 Chelsea jerseys, a Bayern Munchen jersey, 4 USA jerseys, 3 England jerseys, and a Brazil (bleh) jersey.

:vomit:No offense SG, my feet scare the hell out of children and small dogs, but to mention it in mixed company...uggg...the mental picture!

Yznhymr 10-26-2007 03:59 PM

I love me some Case knives. I also collect coffee cups from cities I've visited around the world, hot sauces, knick-knacks, and coins/money. Things I collect that I'd rather not are: other people's colds, armadillos (I shoot them when they get to tearing up my yard...killed 7 this year alone), and bills (my wife's an avid shopper).

binky 10-26-2007 04:23 PM

squished(elongated) pennies from those little machines

binky 10-26-2007 04:23 PM

oh and grey hairs(keep them on my head)

Methinks the lady doth protest too much! how much was postage?

What size are they/how much of a challenge do they represent? (just being nosy here, ignore if too personal) -perhaps you could post one of those ticker-tape things to show how far off getting into them you are? generally I find those annoying, but I could tolerate one for a good cause. :D

monster 10-26-2007 08:27 PM

Weird shit?

Styrofoam trays and yoghurt pots. I just donated hundreds of each to the kids' old preschool this afternoon. I collect them because they can be so useful and i hate for the to go to landfill, but apparently we acquire more than we need. I can now see a small section of the floor in my front room again. Fortunately, the preschool uses more than they acquire.
