Atlanta Water Crisis
This is a slightly complicated situation. It is estimated that Atlanta has less than 120 days of drinking water left.

Well, at least Coke won't waste 1 million gallons on making snow. |
Geez, and I thought where I live is having the biggest water crisis. That sounds terrible.
What has the council (local government) been doing to avert this crisis? How could it have gotten so bad? |
Come on, hurricane!

It never rains but it pours?

Atlanta has had this coming for years. Same for the downstream cities and states.

Ahh.
Much needed rain is hitting the entire east coast. Sucks to be Georgia though. It stops right at the border. |
weird. I live in the middle of a desert and we are not even on the map.
BUT, people waste SO much water! I lived in California in the 70s when we had severe water rationing for a while--water only turned on for a few hours in the day; saving water in your bathtub & reusing it, etc. More can be done. |
Keep on praying, Sonny, you've got a long way to go to get out of this mess.

I finally got to see the lake for the first time in many years. Wow, is it low!
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2093/...4a0d5fe334.jpg That's feet Above Sea Level at the dam. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2410/...e899e98b03.jpg You can now walk to within the restricted area. The rusted metal pole is probably part of an old fence that used to run along the river before they flooded the area. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2344/...e6252e3568.jpg This bridge really isn't needed, today. Deer tracks showed that animals are now crossing where they hadn't been able to in decades. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2243/...1decd242d2.jpg Gauge on the bridge. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2347/...029c1e1b8e.jpg Low water levels mean all the trash accumulated over the decades is becoming visible, again. My dad said they managed to clean up two of the sunken boats that appeared, along with several cars, many tires, and even a porcelain sink. Soda and beer cans can be found all over the lake bed, many of them fairly old -- I found a lot with "pop tops" and even a can of "New Coke". I've never heard of Treasury Root Beer. |
That's a sad state of affairs. So sad to see our rivers and lakes run dry every year.

It's obviously very bad that there is such a severe drought, and the lake is so low, but I have to admit I think this set of pictures is really interesting and very cool. Getting to see all this stuff that is normally covered by water is remarkable. Makes me wonder what's in the lake where my family has a cottage. I know I've lost a few things down there. There should be an anchor and a diving mask and a golf club, that I know of. . .

I seem to recall that Treasury was a house brand of a drug store chain such as Rite Aid or Thrift Drugs.
