lookout123 09-19-2007 10:21 PM

I've been told I'm underweight at 5'8" 150lbs. I can't imagine putting anymore weight on as I have to work out hard to keep this. I'm that asshole that loses weight if I don't work out. Then I really am underweight at 130 lbs.

zippyt 09-19-2007 10:32 PM

270 here , wish I was around 220 or sum such ,

Oh yeah , look out , BITE ME !!!!! ;)

You're not alone. I got really lazy last semester and lazier this summer and have lost weight and I weigh in at 137.8 lbs last nite. At 5'6" and a half can you believe I weighed almost 145 lbs 11 months ago? That was muscle, and I've lost it and lost weight but added fat. Dude you're hella skinny. Get your eat on.

lookout123 09-20-2007 12:46 AM

believe it or not, i'm not skinny. athletic might be more appropriate. i've got a 6 pack, but i've got decent definition to my muscles. i run daily, play multiple soccer games each week, swim, and lift weights. i follow the abs diet from men's health just to keep the weight on. (i can drop 10 lbs in a month if i don't watch my diet and quit working out) i highly recommend it. it isn't a diet so much as a recipe book, and it is good stuff. absolutely nothing in there screams "flavorless cardboard".

i wasted too many years being drunk and not doing anything physical. ever since i sobered up i've had a blast just remembering that once upon a time i was a pretty damn good athlete. the best days are long past but i'll keep pushing my limits in the name of fun until my body gives out. gotta make up for lost time, you know.

Sundae 09-20-2007 04:28 AM

Well no surprise to anyone who's seen my pic, I'm 50+ overweight. Not sure how much as my HM thinks scales are the tool of the devil and completely irrelevant if you're healthy.

I'm feeling motivated by the fact my skirt is falling down, to actually get going on the exercise front. HM is uber-fit, playing badminton 3-4 times a week and 5-a-side (soccer). Am going to remind him of his suggestion we join the loal health centre togther - I can do aqua-aerobics and yoga for a start.

Griff 09-20-2007 06:11 AM

I'm about 15lbs over. I try to do something every day but I don't. We do a lot of cardio at fencing kareoke, shuffle step, bear crawl, Groucho Marx walk, crab walk, and fencing footwork drills. Whatever I do has to be fun or it won't happen. Jamming people in the ribs with an epee is fun. P)

LabRat 09-20-2007 08:28 AM

5'2'' /135lb average over the month [1.5 m/61kg]

I'd prefer to be about 125, where I was prepartum. After 5 years though, I've decided 135 is where I am meant to be, since I eat relatively healthy, and get regular exercise. Less than 125, and my husband starts telling me I'm getting too skinny.

Spexxvet 09-20-2007 08:33 AM

I'm a trap door accident waiting to happen. I break chairs.

theotherguy 09-20-2007 08:37 AM

I am about 15+ of where I would like to be. 5' 8" at 180 is heavier than I want to be. Why 165 for me? I have no idea. I just remember what I looked like then and it was pretty good. If I would just exercise it would fall off, but I can't seem to get started again. I used to run 4 times a week, use the elliptical, and do some push-ups and sit-ups. Now, I just to curls with a wine glass in my hand. I am chalking it up to stress.

glatt 09-20-2007 08:58 AM

I'm underweight, but I've been this way my whole life. Which means I'm right where I am supposed to be. I'm 6' 2" and around 155 or so. But that doesn't mean I'm in great shape. I sit at a desk all day long and am soft.

I was swimming over the summer, and it was the first time in decades that I was getting regular exercise. I really liked it. I felt so much healthier. Had more energy during the day. It was an early morning swim in an outdoor pool. I was going three times a week for half an hour of swimming laps. Really nice. Fun even.

The pool is closed now, and I'm not sure what to do. I'd like to find a new exercise routine. The swimming was perfect because it fit right into my schedule and I don't like getting all hot and sweaty. I hate running/jogging. Maybe going for an early morning bike ride. It's so dark though. I need something.

LabRat 09-20-2007 09:02 AM

glatt, look up local Master's swimming groups in your area.
The one here meets in the summer for swims like you did this summer, and then the rest of the year meets at a local high school pool in the mornings. Not just for triathletes or competitive swimmers! Really neat group of people!!

DanaC 09-20-2007 09:57 AM

I usually vacillate between slightly under and slightly over weight.
Which translates to about two clothes sizes. When I first started posting on the cellar i was underweight (size 8-10 UK, weighed about 8 1/2 stone) then last year I had gone up to slightly overweight (just about fit a size 14, weighed approx 10 1/2 stone). Now I am back to a few pounds above my ideal weight (size 10, weigh 9 1/2 stone).

Clodfobble 09-20-2007 10:31 AM

I was right on target, but I'll be gaining a good 40 pounds in the next seven months. Hopefully I can take it back off again in the seven months or so after that.

skysidhe 09-20-2007 10:36 AM

I 'think' I could stand to lose 10 lbs. Anyway, I could be in better shape. I wear a size 9 of which is only found in junior sizes. Gloria Vanderbuilt pants in size 10 are the only misses sizes that fit real nice and probably Levi's which I can't afford or refuse to afford. I don't really appreciate having to wear a belt to keep my pants up. How to lose that last 10 lbs! Seems like it's my friend for life now.
My mom say, "Oh your just getting older". I'm thinking," Why does older have to mean fatter and thicker?"

jinx 09-20-2007 10:58 AM

I was underweight at 100-105, but then we quit smoking again and joined a gym back in March. Now I'm 110-115 and up a size in jeans (2L), and 2 sizes in shirts (although that might not be from the working out ;)).
When I was 12 I tried on my mother's wedding dress and it was too small for me ( I was a competitive XC skier at the time, pretty darn fit) - she has put on enough weight over the years to give herself diabetes. I am NOT going there. :headshake

DanaC 09-20-2007 11:07 AM

hmm. I just realised 'stones' probably won't mean much to you.

Right now I'm about 133 lbs. When I was underweight I was 119 pounds (actually I went down to about 110 lbs briefly). When I was overweight I was about 150lbs.

Given my height I reckon 133 lbs is as near my ideal weight as makes no difference. But...what i ain't is toned.

I agree.! Getting older dosn't mean women need to let themselves go as if it is some right of passage. Diabetes is a problem these days and it dosn't take much for a small framed women to be overweight too. *nod*

lookout123 09-20-2007 11:52 AM

glatt, aren't there gym's with indoor pools in your area? If you liked swimming and it helped you feel fitter and better, it is worth the $25/month (if your budget allows) to go.

HungLikeJesus 09-20-2007 12:30 PM

For an American, I'm underweight. For a Colorado-an, I'm about right. For a Boulder-ite, I'm overweight and out of shape (which is why I don't live in Boulder).

[off topic] I just want to point out that women's clothing use crazy sizing. For men, pants sizes (in the US) are waist inch x length inch (e.g. 32x34). When we were in Germany last month and my wife's luggage didn't arrive we went to the store to get her some clothes to carry over for a few days. We had a heck of a time trying to figure out the right sizes for her.

Carry on. [/OT]

theotherguy 09-20-2007 12:37 PM

I think you are also too intelligent to be a Boulder-ite.

Yes. There are. I just spent my lunch hour looking them up. I really liked the outdoor pool, and part of what I liked so much was that it's nestled in the woods in a quiet neighborhood, so you would hear the birds chirping and watch the sun rising as you were catching your breath after swimming laps.

But you are right, the indoor pools are not that expensive. I should go check one out and see what they are like for an early bird swim. How crowded, etc. If I like them, I can join for $250 a year, or pay $4 a visit.

lumberjim 09-20-2007 03:32 PM

beware geriatric soup

piercehawkeye45 09-20-2007 03:37 PM

I'm underweight/scrawny and have the same problem with Fresh and Lookout that I lose weight when I stop working out and I haven't really be consistent with working out since football ended senior year in high school.

I am still very athletic just that my stamina sucks and I don't have that extra edge I had when I was in my prime.

I'm about 5'11'' and probably 140 lbs.

elSicomoro 09-20-2007 03:38 PM

I am morbidly obese...whoohoo! I'm working on it though...srsly.

LabRat 09-20-2007 03:38 PM

Exactly why I didn't recommend the Y or some such LJ. I've done that way back when. Those old people can be mean!!!

If you are just interested in swimming, the master's group fee here (obviously might be different elsewhere) is only $100 a year. That gets you all the swimming in the summer and winter, MWF and Sats.

Granted, you don't have the flexability of a gym, but it is cheaper. Just a thought.

that is why i make sure i strike first. I walk in with my shaved head, couple of tattoos, and a neon pink banana hammock. i gently ease into the water then backstroke over to the oldest man i can find and ask him if he's a top or bottom.

miraculously, i end up with my very own lane.

elSicomoro 09-20-2007 03:45 PM

I go to the Y just up the street from our apartment...Mrs. Syc used to be the membership director there, her sister worked there over the summer and we know a lot of the staff that's currently there. It's frequented by a pretty good mix of decent people, though some folks can be retarded, primarily the teenagers. I'm not sure it's really worth $75 a month, but I try to get my money's worth out of it. I particularly like the indoor pool and track, which is where I spend most of my time.

Well, there was kid vomit/poop soup in the outdoor pool, so what you gonna do? Swim with your mouth closed like that guy in the IotD about the Palestinian sewage pond flood.

DucksNuts 09-20-2007 06:07 PM

My norm, is 5'4 and 121...thats what I sit at all year around.

My bodyfat sits at 18% and BMI is 20.

Currently, I am 110 lbs, but will get back to normal pretty quickly.

I go to the yuppie gym, with the pretty people, who care more about the fact that they may sweat whilst working out, than whether they are actually using the equipment correctly.

I sweat, I swear and I sing really badly to my iPod :)

monster 09-23-2007 10:12 PM

Go early afternoon to avoid the geriatric soup -they're all taking naps then. I miss diving into the outdoor pool, though -the indoor is 5' deep max. And I wish they wouldn't label one of the lanes as "floaters".

Swimming regularly makes a huge difference to your overall fitness and energy levels.

170 lb, would like to be nearer 140, but I think that's pretty unrealistic as I'm very well muscled (built like a brick shithouse is another way of putting it) and I seem set to stay this weight -I never gain any, but any I lose goes straight back on the minute I blink. Still, I can dream.... At least people are suprised when they find out how much I weigh -I guess I don't look it.

PointsOfLight 09-23-2007 10:20 PM

http://www.boingboing.net/images/steroidjesus.jpg

this would probably be my ultimate goal.

Ibby 09-23-2007 11:16 PM

i'd say about 5'9", 150lbs for me? somethin' like that. But I'm getting a bit of a gut. and my thighs are too big. if i wasnt so lazy i'd work out but, mneh.

kerosene 10-03-2007 05:37 PM

Pretty happy with my weight, these days: 5'6" 123 lbs.

I use to be about 60 lbs heavier, but have gradually lost the weight just though changing my eating habits and level of activity.

jamamaspoke 10-05-2007 07:31 PM

I am at 142 and go to the gym on a regular basis. If I didn't go to the gym I would be around 160-170, blimp size. Sugar is my downfall. The more I eat the more I want...vicious cycle

lumberjim 10-05-2007 08:15 PM

i'm stalled at 277. i keep working out, but have been less than religious about my diet.

busterb 10-05-2007 08:24 PM

About 5' 10" and 255. Damn getting old sucks. But VA gave me new breathing meds and am better. Firewood has been a work out.

Yes, but now it's 277 lb of solid muscle.

Sundae 10-06-2007 05:36 AM

I've been able to weigh myself this weekend. Since leaving Leicester at end of July I've lost nearly a stone and a half (ETA I've actually lost 19lbs, but a stone and a half is 21lbs and is a bigger milestone for a Brit). I am so pleased - I knew I was losing it, but it's more than I expected.

Also Mum forced me into letting her buy me a new pair of trousers - honestly, I have been refusing since Thursday. I think it was my comedy stories about my trousers falling down in Woolwich. Anyway, I found I have dropped 2 dress sizes, which pleases me even more. One more size and I go get my suitcase down from the loft with all the decent clothes I bought last time I was that size and barely wore!

DanaC 10-06-2007 05:47 AM

Yey! Go Sundae! Go Sundae! *dances*

Mockingbird 10-06-2007 05:50 AM

5'7, 135 lbs. on a good week when I eat.

I don't know what it is that I'm doing, but I would like to gain a little weight. I look like a hungry dog.

DucksNuts 10-06-2007 07:04 AM

Wooo Hooo SG!!!!!

Two dress sizes is great!

monster 10-06-2007 07:25 AM

awesome, SG. The yoga'll be a doddle soon!

ZenGum 10-06-2007 11:44 AM

I'm 181 cm and 61 kgs (feels superior for using metric ... )

Thats 5' 11" and 135 pounds.

Please send food.
I've been lifting weights and have put on 4kg, 10lbs in the last year. I'm fairly well toned but have virtually no fat tissue at all. Always been that way. I do well in summer but winter is terrible. So cold, so very cold...

From figures given in this thread:

The scarecrow club :

Lookout123 .............5'8, 150lbs BMI 22.8 (only listed because of comments in your post)
Mockingbird .............5'7, 135lbs BMI 21.1 (scraping in)
Glatt ......................6'2, 155lbs BMI 19.9 (not thin, just tall for his weight)
Piercehawkeye .........5'11, 140lbs BMI 19.5 (you will live long)
ZenGum .................5'11, 135lbs BMI 18.8 (washboard abs? ha! washboard RIBS)

I hope these rankings don't give anyone any grief or cause any body image disorders. Hugs to you all. Ouch, watch my shoulderblades, will you? :)

"Do NOT read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel UGLY."

lumberjim 10-06-2007 01:33 PM

those bmi's are full of shit.

i'd have to be 234 to be at 30% bmi....obese. if i was 230, your wife would leave you for me.

im morbidly obese at 277? kiss my ass. am not.

my head weighs 40 lbs alone!

Sundae 10-06-2007 05:20 PM

My dowas weigh 40lbs each :(

DanaC 10-06-2007 07:30 PM

Strictly speaking, if going off that list, I rank as a scarecrow: Though I didn't post my height originally..I'm 5ft 7 (and 3/4) inches and 133lbs.

But, I don't look like a scare crow. I wouldn't say I am thin, but slim. And I still get a little tum overhang from too many beers:P

lumberjim 10-06-2007 10:01 PM

how would you weigh someone's head...if you wanted to go about it. short of weighing, beheading and re-weighing? i'd truly like to know how much mine weighs. and i think laying down on my side and resting it on a scale won't be all that accurate. gravitational pull?

bluecuracao 10-06-2007 10:14 PM

I think it'd be somewhat accurate...do it...
