Lot, Parking

Has anyone ever been to a parking lot? That is where they park cars. Sometimes 1 or 2 people will park, sometimes a lot more will park. If you park in one, make sure you are parking where there is no other car parking.Well, have ya? Huh? Have ya?

what is this "parking lot" you speak of? your description invokes many feelings within me. it seems to be a wonderful and magical place I would surely love to see one day. i will seek the "parking lot", and i thank you for broadening my horizons beyond my wildest imaginings.

Shawnee123 08-10-2007 10:36 AM

lol :)

Most people don't know that the "parking lot" was named in remembrance of the biblical figure Lot, who barely escaped when his town was destroyed by God as punishment for the citizens' reprehensible driving habits.

Okay Ihave a question...how comes James was able to drop his punchline to the bottom of the post next to the picture? When I post pictures, I can wrap text around it, it just does text, followed by pictures.

You attach pictures. He embeds links to pictures located elsewhere.

DanaC 08-10-2007 02:54 PM

oh. Which is best to do? For the board I mean?

Deuce 08-10-2007 03:06 PM

different tools for different situations.

Attaching an image means that it will be with the cellar for as long as the cellar is here. Pointing to an image hosted elsewhere carries no such connection.

Attaching an image means that the file resides where the cellar resides, and is a (small) storage burden on the cellar, while an external link is far far smaller.

Likewise for the bandwidth to bring the image to your screen. Attached images, cellar pays the freight. Linked images -- external host pays the freight.

Best... such a difficult concept.

Best is a state of mind.

Also FWIW, if you attach an image, there's no taking it back once the time limit for editing your post has expired. If you keep the picture on a host you control (and link to it), you can always delete it later.

DanaC 08-10-2007 04:00 PM

Ahh. But of course you'd need a host..

SteveDallas 08-10-2007 04:11 PM

Or a service like flickr, photobucket, smug mug, etc. etc. that will let you link in to a photo.

DanaC 08-10-2007 04:13 PM

Is that what most of you are doing when you post pictures then?

kerosene 08-10-2007 04:56 PM

For larger images or more than one in a post, I usually use my own hosting to host my pictures.

DanaC 08-10-2007 04:57 PM

ooohhhh. I prolly aught to set up something then.

Clodfobble 08-10-2007 06:19 PM

It's important to note though that hotlinking, unless it's from a site specifically designed for hosting, is very rude because it makes the original site pay for the bandwidth. Many don't allow it.

DanaC, just be aware. Here's an example of a thread where I linked to photos through a Fotki account. I didn't realize that the account would be converted after a certain number of days. The files were moved and all the links broke. I spent hours setting up that thread. I haven't had time to find a new host, and I don't even know if the thread can be fixed.

Image shack is one of the better place for hosting your own. I use photobucket but my work filter will not let me see them or use it when at work. I can view Image shack pictures. Some of the others have used Flickr or PBase or one of the other sites that let you post complete albums. I don't know if that helps.

DanaC 08-25-2007 06:18 AM

I've started using photobucket. I did try flickr initially but it's too rulesy. I also tried tinypics but couldn't figure their system out, they sue Photobucket so I followed a link and set up an account. So far, problem free.

Like I said before the biggest problem with photobucket is that a number of webservers block that site. So if you post a pic hosted from there on here, some will not be able to see it unless you look at it from a home computer.
