Money Magazine's Best Places to Live

I live in the 9th best place to live, according to Money Magazine anyway....

Wooo - Hooooo! I can hear my property value rising!

Uisge Beatha 07-30-2007 06:20 PM

Heck, I'm not that far from #25, but I wouldn't say it's that great. Still, I never expected anything on the list to be at all nearby.

piercehawkeye45 07-30-2007 07:18 PM

Wow, I grew up very close to number 30.

Aliantha 07-30-2007 10:35 PM

Hmmm... don't see Brisbane on that list. They must have made a mistake.

xoxoxoBruce 07-31-2007 06:25 AM

It's Money magazine. Obviously Brisbane didn't offer enough money.

Shawnee123 07-31-2007 10:24 AM

Gee, my town isn't listed. Big surprise! ;)

barefoot serpent 07-31-2007 10:41 AM

Business Week has a similar list of affordable suburbs broken down by region:
Midwest
South
West
Northeast

with some overlaps.

bigw00dy 08-01-2007 12:22 PM

Look at the average property taxes for the top 100 and take a stab on which state has just about the highest.....I will give you a hint, it starts with Ne............and ends with ersy.

Shawnee123 08-01-2007 01:44 PM

Ahhh yes. Good ol' Neersy.

Radar 08-01-2007 05:22 PM

Man, one of our offices is only 13 miles from Nether Providence in Malvern. I should look at moving there.

still another list -- Looks like Hanover, NH makes the trifecta

WASHINGTON (AP) — What are the best places to live, play and seek adventure?

National Geographic Adventure magazine's September issue includes a list of the best towns nationwide, one in each state.

Best wilderness towns - meaning they offer access to forests, canyons, swamps, grasslands, prairies and other wild places - are Homer, Alaska; Cody, Wyo.; Flagstaff, Ariz.; Valdosta, Ga.; Medora, N.D.; Rochester, Minn.; Alexandria, La.; Valentine, Neb.; and St. George, Utah.

Best small towns on the list were Spearfish, S.D.; Bloomington, Ind.; Iowa City, Iowa; Northampton, Mass.; Lynchburg, Va.; Marietta, Ohio, Fayetteville, W.Va.; Bowling Green, Ky.; Chatsworth, N.J.; Hot Springs, Ark.; and Smyrna, Del.

Best mountain towns, according to the magazine, are Bishop, Calif.; Gunnison, Colo.; Missoula, Mont.; Hanover, N.H.; Wenatchee, Wash.; Hood River, Ore.; Boone, N.C.; Jim Thorpe, Pa.; Montpelier, Vt.; and New Paltz, N.Y.

Best waterfront towns, according to National Geographic Adventure, are Waimea, Hawaii; Fond du Lac, Wis.; Newport, R.I.; Rockland, Maine; Mystic, Conn.; Grand Rapids, Mich.; Annapolis, Md; Beaufort, S.C., and Lewiston, Idaho.

Labratville makes the best small town list.

Crap, you beat me to it! I was gonna brag and be all *nya nyah!!!*

Cloud 08-15-2007 06:03 PM

whatever they are, they're not where I am

Perry Winkle 08-15-2007 06:19 PM

What's with all the inconsistency in the state abbreviations?

Cloud 08-15-2007 08:59 PM

I don't want to move to any of those places.

And I'd be very wary of living anywhere with "nether" in the name.

TheMercenary 08-15-2007 09:07 PM

We moved from one of the top ones in 1998:

http://money.cnn.com/magazines/money...PL1350036.html

A great place to live and raise kids. We would have stayed on if the next duty station had not called. School systems were awsome.

xoxoxoBruce 08-15-2007 09:49 PM

And after you moved there it never made the list again?.... even after you left?

Just kidding.

JuancoRocks 08-18-2007 11:58 PM

Well at least Phoenix made #3 in the top ten big cities.
Of course they haven't seen the endless construction and our ridiculous multi-billion dollar boondoggle of the traffic inhibiting (s)light rail.

Think "nether lips", baby. :yum:

Kind of rules that Wisconsin holds the number one spot. Everyone from Wisconsin loves the state, but when I brought a buddy from California there all he could talk about was how the west coast had the same things minus the accent and better.....so I punched him on his snout

extreme tail post

Something bothers me every time I see this thread title.

Do I really want something called Money Magazine telling me where to live? I mean,

I can't help thinking that this list might be a little biased...maybe it should have been called "Best Cities To Earn Money" or something?
