Lome, Togo`

Got a trip planned in September to Lome, Togo. Has anyone ever been there?? If so, let me know what you thought of it. I would be very interested to hear. We are going to be staying at the Sofitel Hotel on the beach. :yelgreedy

If you are going, why ask about it? Hotel discount for shilling?

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a shithole. :D

...but have fun ;)

The hotel 'star' rating system in Africa:

***** - only The Mamounia in Marrakech (if you have to ask, you can't afford it)
**** - don't believe it
*** - has hot water (at least some of the time)
** - 1 star for each twin bed
* - has something that works (power, water {but don't drink it}, door locks...)

Everytime I see this thread I keep seeing, "Tome, Logo" instead. Which means take the logo. Which of course is pretty nonsensical.

Togo's a country? (frowns, tries to remember back to 5th grade)

xoxoxoBruce 07-09-2007 11:19 AM

It wasn't a country when you were in 5th grade.

barefoot serpent 07-09-2007 11:23 AM

I believe the continent was Pangaea, then... [/piling on]

Nonsense, the nations in central Africa have changed names and borders faster than they can print maps, in the last 40 years.

I will let all of you know what Togo was like when we get back.http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1370/...828166.jpg?v=0

you asked!!!:thepain:

xoxoxoBruce 07-30-2007 03:03 PM

Now that's more like it. That's the link you should have posted instead of the one to three guys with no explanation.
That gives a good idea what being poor in Haiti, is like.

glatt 07-30-2007 03:05 PM

The one of the pigs roaming around the streets rooting through rubble, looking for something to eat kinda drives it home.

xoxoxoBruce 07-30-2007 03:12 PM

And the little creek of raw sewage.

jamesdalphonse1 07-31-2007 02:20 PM

you should think about a vacation in Haiti sometime, it's amazing!!!
If you want the link to my Haiti website, let me know, I don't dare post it without being asked for it, lol!

At the risk of sounding like an imperialist snob, I'd say that in this case, amazing isn't what I'm looking for. Raw sewage and pigs rooting around through the rubble of city streets aren't what I value in a vacation destination.

xoxoxoBruce 07-31-2007 03:50 PM

Or being kidnapped and/or murdered.

glatt 07-31-2007 04:23 PM

And then there's that too.
