The Best Luck!

My girlfriend has the luckiest luck ever. Like, the kind of luck only leprechauns get.

Today she got hired at Macy's and will make $8.25.
She put in the application yesterday. Today was the group interview and they hired her on spot.

Her previous job was a pharm tech at Jewel Osco. She got a call back from Jewel like 4 days later and she makes $9.30 there and still works there weekends.

Her first job was Walgreens and she got a call back a coupla days later. Her first starting salary was $7.65. That is reallllly good for your first job ever.

I'm so envious...and a little jealous. I on the other hand have applied at over 10 places this summer and got screwed on my only call back, OfficeMax (they never received my drug test results and the dick guy who would hire me never called me back and he's like "I dunno, we just never got them back" after I checked up on the store 3 times).

Whine whine whine yes I know. But still, she has only applied at 3 places her whole life. And gotten every job only days later. Gah!

I'm still unemployed, I'm going back to my Jewel cashering job next week, I had to wait 2 weeks because the front end manager was on vacation and only he can rehire me. A meager $7.40 an hour minus union dues every week.

Should I start selling rocks?

Bullitt 06-09-2007 03:23 PM

Lifeguard it up son. Did that for four years, my Red Cross certification training was paid for by them, got $8 to get a tan and deal with some rambunctious kid every now and then.
Or check out a temp agency. Got a good warehouse job through one last year that got me $9, no union dues of course either.

My summer job now is cush, $15/hr cash to take care of my uncle who has Alzheimer's all day every day for the whole summer.

what if it transcends into ur real life
u guys grow up, stay together. she is succesful bizniz woman or w/e and ur a lowly gas station attendant or manager at target. she's puttin meals on the table

would this jealous and envy evolve into something bad b/w u two

lumberjim 06-09-2007 03:31 PM

and weren't you advising me to get a full time job?

9 minutes

freshnesschronic 06-09-2007 03:36 PM

I'm 19 years old, old man.
I'm a full time student at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.
This is a summer job.
Get a life, honestly.

lumberjim 06-09-2007 03:43 PM

i'm just sayin... glass houses ya know..

i totally have a life, d00d

nappyboy2003 06-09-2007 03:52 PM

People Who Live In Glass Houses Should Not Throw Stones ( don't criticize other people when you yourself have faults and weaknesses ... )

ur point? and you dont throw around a lot of rocks yourself?

Clodfobble 06-09-2007 04:01 PM

Do you honestly believe that it's luck, fresh? Really?

You can't think of anything about your dress or demeanor in these interviews that might be setting off alarms for the employers?

freshnesschronic 06-09-2007 04:12 PM

Are you suggesting I am a hoodlum, thug, rude or dumb?

Equal opportunity employers, therefore I think it's luck. Right time and place for her. Do you know anyone who was hired to their first three jobs immediately without hesitation? Excluding girls who were hooked up as secretaries by their uncle's business and the like.

i was. i'm charming. i've never NOT gotten a job i interviewed for. ever.

you can't expect an employer to want to hire you unless you give the impression that you'd be the best candidate he/she's spoken to. When I hire, I do it based on personality and feel. you can teach skillz...you can't teach personality.

well...i wouldn't be calling anyone fat, or ....what are my other faults again? arrogant? yeah.....

i was just pointing out the irony of a 19 yr old kid calling me a loser and telling me to get a career.....i thought it was kind of funny. I mean, hey...call me fat, and i can't really argue with you. unless you're fatter...

Well aren't you special. I was mainly referring to her success at getting callbacks so soon and my desperation for anything.
Of course duing an interview you kiss ass and show an amiable guy, this interview with OfficeMax is my first rejection of a job by interview. And that's only because the drug tests results never came in and his lazy ass didn't follow up appropriately to the drug testers, I went BACK to ask him 3 times.

So you'd take a shitty employee with a "nice" personality over a smart capable person with a personality that doesn't fit yourself?

i usually only observe here rather than engage and i can see that you have a generous portion of throwing shit at people and you definately are not the most popular.

and im the fattest mother fucker here i weigh 300 pounds and its time to eat

and why haven't you done something yet lumberjim it's saturday i thought you had a life AND a job no friends though?

lumberjim 06-09-2007 04:44 PM

No....I didn;t say nice. I mean....I can tell if the person I'm talking to has ....hmmm....the right combination of intelligence and confidence.....spark? hard to give it a name without it sounding like a dating game......but it's almost like that. not about ME liking them...but about them being a real person....

I don;t know you, fresh. you might be a fabulous guy in real life.....but what you've conveyed here makes me interpret your unspoken words as a recurring negative reaction to your personality. you probably think you're amiable....and may be trying to be. but maybe your not?

i apologize for antagonizing you.....i shouldn't. it's not cool.

here's some free advice as an olive branch:

go into your next interview with the assumption that you're hired if you want the job. turn the table. interview them to see if it's a plce you;d be comfortable working. that always seems to work.

Jeboduuza 06-09-2007 04:48 PM

Not in real life, no. I wasn't trying to be rude, I promise. But is it possible that to some presumptive middle-aged retail manager, you might appear as such? My point was that it isn't luck, obviously your girlfriend must have something appealing about her to be so employable--and conversely, if your resume was ignored by ten different places then there's almost certainly something unappealing about it. If you want, post it and we'll give you some honest feedback. But don't cop out and tell yourself it's pure luck, try and figure out what it is.

Maybe she turned her cell off during the interview? ;)

You might want to run a spell check on your letter of application too :)
