Fav comedians

Ok, who's your fave comedians, stand up or otherwise. Mine has to be Bill Bailey, he just makes me cry laughing

Undertoad 04-11-2007 11:01 AM

My top would be

Louis C.K.
Lewis Black
Jim Gaffigan
Arj Barker
Dave Chappelle

And then there's great comics who are not currently working as comics:

Sarah Silverman
Eddie Izzard
Chris Rock

And then there's

Dennis Miller

Who is currently working as a comic AND as a radio talk-show guy

And then there's

Robert Smigel

Who is a comedy writer/producer but often works as a "stand-up" while he's doing:

Triumph the Insult Comic Dog

glatt 04-11-2007 11:02 AM

My favorite is probably the humping, puking, eating it up dog. I have a very juvenile sense of humor.

From the NSFW thread.

jinx 04-11-2007 11:27 AM

Eddie Izzard... becuase there's a fucking H in it...

Dane Cook... puking and crying...

piercehawkeye45 04-11-2007 11:49 AM

Russell Peters

Sheldonrs 04-11-2007 11:59 AM

Paula Poundstone

Wanda Sykes
and a few more that my Wednesday brain can't remember.

Bill Hicks
George Carlin, in his prime
Eddie Izzard (I heard Englebert Humperdink died)
Lewis Black
Norm McDonald - yeah, I know...

Perry Winkle 04-11-2007 12:43 PM

George Carlin
Bill Cosby
Eddie Murphy
Bill Murray
Gilda Radner
John Belushi
Dan Akroyd
Chevy Chase
Kevin Smith (stretching, but the guy can write the funny)
Steve Martin
Martin Short
Sarah Silverman (Jesus is magic!)
Robert Smigel
Rodney Dangerfield
Abbot & Costello
The Stooges
Cheech & Chong
Hudson & Landry
Robert Klein
Mel Brooks
Gene Wilder
Richard Pryor
Cloris Leachman
Madeline Kahn
Carl Reiner
Jon Stewart
Rob Schneider
Woody Allen
Adam Sandler
Mike Myers
Dana Carvey

I could go on...for everyone I come up with 5 more come to mind.

Whichever is making me laugh at the moment is my favorite.

barefoot serpent 04-11-2007 01:22 PM

W.C. Fields
Jonathan Winters
Richard Jeni
Richard Pryor
Chris Farley

Undertoad 04-11-2007 01:26 PM

At this point there needs to be clarification between stand-up comedy, and comic acting.

freshnesschronic 04-11-2007 01:34 PM

HOW CAN ANYONE FORGET CHRIS FARLEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

duck_duck 04-11-2007 02:11 PM

The three stooges! :)

elSicomoro 04-11-2007 03:32 PM

Richard Pryor
Dave Chappelle
Lewis Black
Sam Kinison
Sacha Baron Cohen

bluecuracao 04-11-2007 05:10 PM

Wanda Sykes
Lewis Black
Richard Jeni--but thinking about him now makes me sad
Louis C.K.--but remembering they canceled his show pisses me off
Bruce Bruce
Ron White
Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, "...For me to poop on!!"

A couple of years ago, I saw a stand up comic from Queens (?) who was an opening act for Wanda at the Improv in DC--I wish I could remember his name, he was freaking hilarious.

be-bop 04-11-2007 05:36 PM

Jerry Sadowitz http://www.jerrysadowitz.com/

You are a good man Ibram. I'll admit he is good but hyped up way too much.

Crimson Ghost 04-12-2007 01:07 AM

Jim Norton (crinkle, crinkle)
Dennis Leary
Sam Kinison
Lewis Black
Ron White

DanaC 04-12-2007 12:44 PM

Hmm.

Bill Hicks (went to see him live in Manchester a year before he died. Very funny man).
Mark Thomas (English radical left wing activist and stand up comic)
Eddie Izzard
The Mighty Boosh (a pair of stand up comedians who are totally bizarre. Can't recall their names to list individually) [edited to note one of them is called Noel Fielding. If anyone feels like trawling the torrents, dl some of his solo stuff it's very strange and totally charming.]
Ross Noble (Geordie comedian)
Lee and Herring (can't recall first names, do stuff together but also tour seperately, I think they may be called Stephen and Richard)
Steve Martin
Omid Djalili (Iranian comedian. Very funny).
David Mitchell and Robert Webb.

Others whose names i can't recall I'll post em as they come to mind :)

DanaC 04-12-2007 12:56 PM

Ack can't believe I forgot Robert Newman! (English comedian. Along with his partner in crime, was the first 'rockstar' comic in england. Their final tour filled wembley. Unfortunately by that time they apparently hated each other so went their separate ways after that. Robert went into writing, but is apparently touring again.)

My kid sister-in-law loves him...he's good, but not great yet, IMO.

Some additional faves:

--Jerry Seinfeld
--Benny Hill
--John Byner
--Rodney Dangerfield
--Rudy Ray Moore

melidasaur 04-12-2007 03:28 PM

Why has no one mentioned PHIL HARTMAN!?! Wow, talk about somebody that can make me laugh. I also love Ricky Gervais. But hands down, Phil Hartman.

He used to be a caveman.
Now he's a lawyer.

He was included in my "holy crap I like too many comedians" catch-all.

duck_duck 04-13-2007 08:31 AM

I also like Mr. Bean :)

I took the kids to see Mr Beans holiday. The sketch where he pretended to be a mime artist in the french market was sooo funny

You just became my new idol. I miss Phil...he was one of the funniest people ever. I loved him on NewsRadio. Almost everything he did and said made me laugh!

Do not taunt happy fun ball.

I haven't seen that before. Is it new?

yeah, it was released over here a couple of weeks ago

Hime 04-13-2007 12:53 PM

Eddie Izzard is my favorite right now. I also love the late, great Mitch Hedberg.

Bullitt 04-13-2007 01:04 PM

Brian Regan
Mitch Hedberg
Dave Chappelle
Bill Cosby
Jeff Dunham (hilarious ventriloquist, sounds like an oxymoron but take my word for it)
Stephen Lynch

Clodfobble 04-13-2007 06:14 PM

Alright, I'm gonna say it: I don't get Mitch Hedberg. Never thought he was funny one bit.

Eddie Izzard, however... Hot damn. And his new series "The Riches" is pretty damn funny too, although it's more of a drama.

DanaC 04-13-2007 06:25 PM

I dunno what it is about izzard....but damnit he's \the only guy I have ever come across who can wear make up, high heels and a girl's tunic and I still want to bed him.

Who's Mitch Hedburg?

Bullitt 04-13-2007 07:12 PM

Stand up comedian, died in March 2005 from drug overdose.
Real goofy guy, search for youtube videos of him.
"Alcoholism is a disease, but it's the only one you can get yelled at for having. 'Damn it, Otto, you're an alcoholic.' 'Damn it, Otto, you have lupus.' One of those two doesn't sound right."
"I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside. Run. He's fuzzy. Get outta here!"

Undertoad 04-14-2007 09:23 AM

Someone handed me a picture and said, "This is a picture of me when I was younger." Every picture of you is when you were younger. "...Here's a picture of me when I'm older." Where'd you get that camera man?

wolf 04-15-2007 07:59 PM

Bill Hicks
Bill Cosby, during the 1960s and early 70s.
George Carlin, before his heart attack
Tom Lehrer
Richard Prior, after he discovered the N-word, but before he set fire to himself
Bobcat Goldthwait, up until he discovered that he bore a mild resemblance to Bono
Lenny Bruce, before the Obscenity Trial
Robin Williams, before the stupid sitcom

jinx 07-14-2007 06:26 PM

Lewis CK
fat cookies

kids

DanaC 07-14-2007 06:52 PM

Oh man. He's funny.

rkzenrage 07-14-2007 09:56 PM

Most of my favorites are dead or no longer doing their best work. It makes me sad.
I like Eddie Izzard.

CzinZumerzet 07-15-2007 05:52 PM

Bill Bailey
Victoria Wood - when she does stand-up
Eddie Izzard

rkzenrage 07-15-2007 06:02 PM

I really think most are afraid of pissing-off their audience now and try to hard to play to a niche.
It is a game now and not real work.

Urbane Guerrilla 07-18-2007 01:49 AM

I agree with sheldonrs: Ron White on the You Can't Fix Stupid tour... that very still but fuckin' demented stage persona, sporting that lip-twitching three-quarter smile.

Yakov Smirnov, when he was current, back in the Eighties.

Click on "For flash movie click here" for a better sound quality file of Cows With Guns than you get on YouTube.

MalzB 07-18-2007 02:35 PM

Oh my...Mitch Hedburg is amazing.
"The commercial for Diet Dr. Pepper says it tastes just like regular Dr. Pepper. Well then they fucked up!"

I adore him. Such a shame he's gone.

Happy Monkey 07-18-2007 04:26 PM

No mention of Patton Oswalt yet? He's hilarious.
