A spate of underwire incidents....

OK, those in the *know*, I have had 4!! bras in the last week where the underwire has burst through the little sleevey thing.

Whats causing this? They arent el cheapo bras and I always wash them in one of those little laundry bags for *delicates*.

One just did it now, its annoying and owwie. I've stuck a bandaid over it, but its kinda ruining the cleavage look. :right:

....can you tell I am not particularly interested in working today?

bluecuracao 04-09-2007 08:56 PM

Ouch, that just happened to me the other day! It wasn't el cheapo either (supposedly), and still fairly new. I wish they'd find a way to make these things without sharp, pointy wire.

DanaC 04-09-2007 09:03 PM

Hmm....I'd like to join in on this, but I don't actually wear an underwired bra:P I'm kinda small.....perky tho.

footfootfoot 04-09-2007 09:23 PM

Shouldn't this thread be in quality images?
(just asking...)

bluecuracao 04-09-2007 09:27 PM

It wouldn't be pretty...

footfootfoot 04-09-2007 09:33 PM

beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

Clodfobble 04-09-2007 09:44 PM

I've never had that problem with my brand (Victoria's Secret.) And I've actually had occasion to cut out the wires myself in the past, and it's always been pretty difficult--and when I did get them out, I saw that the wires had little plastic nubs on the end to prevent them from poking out on their own.

I don't know if you get them in OZ, but I highly recommend Victoria's Secret...

bluecuracao 04-09-2007 09:54 PM

You're right, Victoria's Secret bras are good--I'd forgotten about them. Oh! I'll just have to walk a couple of extra blocks to get them. ;)

SteveDallas 04-09-2007 09:58 PM

All I know about underwires is, don't wear them out in a storm. :worried:

Hoof Hearted 04-09-2007 11:06 PM

One of my VS underwires did pop out. After poking the wire back into the sleeve I took needle/thread and hooked a few stitches at the hole to hold it all inside. Still working, and the repair job was done over a year ago.

The little delicates bags are great for washing...but I would still recommend laying them flat to dry.
Don't toss the bag of bras into the dryer. I really feel the heat of the dryer is what ruins most delicates, in addition to the friction of tumbling against the other fabrics.
hh

Aliantha 04-09-2007 11:08 PM

I have underwires in most of my bras and I don't buy cheap ones either. From time to time I do have 'breakouts' of wires and it's very annoying. I've generally attributed these to poor stitching. A couple of brands I've never had problems with are Oroton and Elle McPherson. Also Bendon are pretty good too. There's a new brand out here called Crystelle. I have one and it's so comfortable and so far no sign of breakages.

rkzenrage 04-09-2007 11:29 PM

Having to wear a dance belt every day really gave me a real appreciation for what you ladies go through every day... I wouldn't do it.
Fuck-em'.

Aliantha 04-09-2007 11:47 PM

I usually take mine off when I get home. They really are restricting.

bluecuracao 04-09-2007 11:58 PM

Me too, right away. Be free, girls!

DanaC 04-10-2007 12:01 AM

Like....born free

zippyt 04-10-2007 12:06 AM

then why bother at ALL ????

Hell Every body needs to know what the temp is !!!:ggw: ;)

Aliantha 04-10-2007 12:06 AM

And they take on a life of their own too when they're set free. Very liberating. ;)

bluecuracao 04-10-2007 12:07 AM

Dana, you're a lucky gal. In my pre-underwire days, I usually went sans-bra...

seakdivers 04-10-2007 12:14 AM

All I know is that once those wires break free - forget about patching it. You might get an extra wear or two, but probably not.
I've had $80+ bras poke out after a few wears, and $39.99 ones last years. I usually have to buy the more expensive ones though because the cheapos don't come in my size. :(

bluecuracao 04-10-2007 12:19 AM

I've never tried patching them, they just have to go. There should be bra insurance to alleviate the costs.

Oh, what am I thinking.

elSicomoro 04-10-2007 12:29 AM

A few weeks ago, April threw away two $80 bras due to the underwire coming out...she just bought them 6 months ago. The place she bought her new ones from repairs underwires cheap, but we had already thrown the old ones away. Due to her cup size, she can only get bras online or through specialty stores...I think the cheapest bra she's bought during our time together was $45.

seakdivers 04-10-2007 01:35 AM

Yep. Big boobs seem like a neat-o thing until you have them.

I think my wife has some kinda' bra OCD. A doorknob is not a doorknob without a bra on it in my home. :right:

tissy_uk 04-10-2007 06:01 AM

I gave up on underwires after my washing machine got blocked for the 3rd time

Hush your hole! They are neat-o things, and I will pay dearly to ensure that they remain neat-o things! :)

Spexxvet 04-10-2007 10:57 AM

It's really annoying when the underwire comes out of my boxer-briefs. Ow!

barefoot serpent 04-10-2007 11:47 AM

I seem to recall reading somewhere that 80% of women wear bras that are one size too small.

elSicomoro 04-10-2007 12:08 PM

I know...I hate when women wear E cups when they really have F boobies...a shame, really.

LabRat 04-10-2007 12:10 PM

I've only ever had the underwire come out of my swimming suits. The few bras that I have with an underwire have been fine, most VS, one Calvin Klein. However, I am a 34A, so the underwire is there to shape the padding, not support my skeeto bites :D.

Iggy 04-10-2007 02:16 PM

Almost every single bra I own has had the underwire pop out... but with big boobies they have to do a lot of work. The VS bra I got the other day actually isn't very comfortable... the wire digs into my sides. It is still inside the stitching, but it digs. I am going to have to be careful the next time I buy a bra from them. I always stitch them underwire back in... usually I have to add a little fabric too because they get old. And I always wash them like my normal clothes so I think that is why they all wear out on me. Good thing I know how to sew! :D

Aliantha 04-11-2007 12:47 AM

Iggy, if the wires are digging in even though they're not poking out, it really is most likely that the bra is the wrong size. Remember, not all bra manufacturers stick to the same sizing. Trust me, I know. ;)

Iggy 04-11-2007 01:23 AM

The only problem with that is the girl fitted me with it... it is the only bra that fits in all other ways. And it didn't bother me when I tried it on, but when I do a lot of moving around it bugs me. It is soooo hard to find bras that fit right! *sigh*

Aliantha 04-11-2007 01:27 AM

Maybe the girl isn't very good at her job. lol

I know what you mean though. I've tried bras on at the shop and they feel fine but then they just aren't comfortable later. I've wondered if it's something to do with time of month and boob swelling/shrinkage.

Look, don't make me come to Iowa and give you a stern lecture about running down those gems of yours. You are the living embodiment of the maxim, "More than a mouthful is wasted."

Thats coz they look sooooo awesome with all that jiggley goodness poking out the top!!

I havent seen VS here, but will have a look online.

I did buy some Elle McPherson sets yesterday at DFO and I got some nice Bendon ones.

Mayor of Shekou 04-12-2007 04:50 AM

OK, I realize it just isn't quite right for me to be posting here, but I have to ask: Recently my wife found that one wire in her underwire bra disappeared in the wash. I looked real close, but couldn't find an exit hole or any damage. We never found the wire itself. It's like it just dissolved in place. Does this sort of thing happen often? My experience here is limited...

SteveDallas 04-12-2007 09:21 AM

Quantum tunneling.

DanaC 04-12-2007 05:22 PM

You all are so lucky. I always wanted big bouncy breasts. I mean....I like mine, they're pert and cute an' all.....but sometimes I would totally swap them for a pair of biguns

Ever visit Anne's Bra Shop in O'Fallon (I think there's one in Chest(haha)erfield, too)? I think they do custom work...

How would you list this on your resume? Boob Job?

monster 04-12-2007 06:28 PM

I pay $7 for my cotton underwire bras. The underwires usually stay in long enough for the rest of the bra to wear out. Not terribly environmentally friendly, but cotton and replaced often seems to be the way to keep a comfy fit. i did go through a spate of underwire incidents when I used to pay more for bras. Go figure.

Mayor, you'll find it if you ever remove the drum. You'll find several of them. Snuggled up in all the odd socks like little sleeping bags. They use your trouser buttons for pillows. The exit hole heals before the bra even gets to the spin cycle. It's a conspiracy.

Cloud 04-12-2007 08:54 PM

bras suck.

Maybe you need to hire a bruja?

I honestly don't care why brianna can't stand me. The feeling is entirely mutual. The post was an honest one. I do like my breasts. On the other hand I have always, since i was a kid of 13, wanted bigger tits. All the other girls had nice bouncy breasts that the boys wanted to play with whilst I got teased for being flat chested. Even my early bf's used to take the piss out of me, because they knew it wound me up (not unkindly).Took me a long time to learn to like my breasts. Probably only really resigned myself to them about 5 years ago. But still.....when other women talk about theirs I sometimes feel i am missing out. These are the hangups childhood leaves us with. The comment about them being pert and cute was supposed to be humorous and to let people know that this isn't something I am seriously bothered by anymore. So, y'know, if bri wants to hate me for saying something like that, well all power to her. If you want to dislike me for saying something like that, well frankly I have more pressing things to concern myself with.

Aliantha 04-13-2007 06:44 AM

You have nice boobs Dana. ;) I have to say that i like mine more though. Probably cause they're attached to my chest.

DanaC 04-13-2007 06:52 AM

lol

lumberjim 04-13-2007 08:16 AM

NO, NO. I dislike your overuse of asterisks, your poetry and your communist philosophies. ...but mostly it's the asterisks. *mocks you*

DanaC 04-13-2007 08:37 AM

*nods* ok. I can live with that.

Been to both...in fact, our visit to the Chesterfield one was the subject of a recent Manifesto.

Dance belt? I'm intrigued.

And, while I have had underwire incidents, I still way prefer wearing a bra to not wearing one. The bouncing, it hurts!

I vaguely recall a humorous scene in either the TV show or movie, Fame, in which Leon is told that he has to go buy a dance belt.

As far as underwires go, I've had relatively few problems with them, although I also have the near escapees from time to time. I have determined that the manufacturers of washers and bras are in cahoots, as "Gentle," as printed on the front of the washer, bears absolutely no relation to the dictionary defination of that word. I don't let the slingshots hit the spin cycle any more. Wash and a bit of a rinse and that's that. Hang dry.

My big problem tends to be the side boning. I've got one bra that gives great lift and cleavage, but I get bruises from the darn thing. I save it up for special occasions since I can't wear it to work. The last thing you want when you're slaving over a bunch of hot psychotics all night is a poky bra. I'm already irritable enough ...

And aside from poky underwire issues, surely cleavage isn't exactly an asset in dealing with your clientele?
