Concerts thread??

Is there one??

I want there to be one!

Oh look, there is :)

I just wanted to tell everyone that I am off to the Chili Peppers tonite :D 5th row seats...I'm a tad excited...I get excited about shit like this...I'm annoying everyone at work. They always say I am the excitable puppy. :p

What was the last concert you went to?

Are you off to any in the not too distance future??

DanaC 04-09-2007 07:01 PM

Oooo. V. exciting Ducks!

Last concert i went to was Regina Spektre in manchester. She was totally awesome. We were right at the front ;)

duck_duck 04-09-2007 07:06 PM

Have fun ducks! I have never been to a concert before. I'm not sure if they have concerts with the music I usually like.

DanaC 04-09-2007 07:11 PM

What music do you usually like Duck?

duck_duck 04-09-2007 07:15 PM

I mostly like movie soundtracks. My favorite is The bounty by Vangelis. :)

DanaC 04-09-2007 07:17 PM

Oh Vangelis. I love Vangelis.

duck_duck 04-09-2007 07:18 PM

Have you heard his 1492 soundtrack? That comes in a close second on my favorite list.

DanaC 04-09-2007 07:20 PM

Yep. Very good. Though my all time favourite was the Bladerunner soundtrack.

Talking of great soundtracks, what did you think of the Vanilla Sky soundtrack?

duck_duck 04-09-2007 07:29 PM

Oh yes the bladerunner was good. I really liked the love theme track on that one.
I haven't heard Vanilla Sky. I don't even think I've heard of that movie before.

DucksNuts 04-09-2007 07:31 PM

ahem

get a room n get outta my thread :p

DanaC 04-09-2007 07:32 PM

heheheh soz Ducks, now what was that you wuz sayin bout a chilli peppah love-in?

jinx 04-09-2007 07:33 PM

As it turns out, I am not going to be seeing Live this Friday at a tiny venue in Lancaster. Huge bummer. Enjoy the RHCP for me.

bluecuracao 04-09-2007 08:09 PM

I haven't been to a concert in a long time, but next Friday I'm going to see the Noisettes at the Troc!

DanaC 04-09-2007 08:09 PM

Blue, I've been meaning to ask this for the longest tme....how do you pronounce curacao?

bluecuracao 04-09-2007 08:16 PM

"kur-a-sau"

DanaC 04-09-2007 08:17 PM

ahhhh thanks. This whole time I've been thinking it was 'kur-a-kau':P

bluecuracao 04-09-2007 08:19 PM

Well, at least that's a little better than "kur-Ah-ko," the way I've heard some people even in the bar industry pronounce it.

DucksNuts 04-09-2007 08:37 PM

Jesus christ Dana!!!!

BTW, I was pronouncing it in my head that way too :)

Jinx - why arent you going to see LIVE?

I'm just bidding on some Pink tickets.

bluecuracao 04-09-2007 08:39 PM

I'd love to see Pink, but I don't think that'll ever happen, unless I go by myself. :(

DanaC 04-09-2007 08:41 PM

My ex bought his kid sister and her mate tickets to see Pink and then ended up having to go along as chaperone because her mum couldn't make it :P

bluecuracao 04-09-2007 08:46 PM

LOL You just reminded me of when I had to chaperone my kid sister for a Corey Hart concert in the '80s. She insisted that we go right up to the front, so when he came on stage, the whole crowd of pre-teen girls rushed up and crushed us against the edge of it. Ow, I still remember the bruises on my ribcage.

Guyute 04-09-2007 09:13 PM

Last concert? Phish, Sugarbush 1994.

Been to a few shows in bars, but I consider a "concert" to be 25,000 people outdoors (preferably on a ski slope)...

lumberjim 04-10-2007 11:36 AM

Phobic at the Dutch tavern ;)

Dave Matthews band at the tweeter center. actually ,that's the last 2 concerts i've gone to. Kids put a serious crimp in concert going. damn weiner kids is right.

Sheldonrs 04-10-2007 11:52 AM

I might be seeing Taylor Daynes this weekend. She is performing at the Phoenix Gay Pride fest.
I can't remember the last concert I saw. I used to go 5-6 times a year when I was younger. Some of my favorites were:

Bette Midler
Billy Joel
Adam Ant
John Denver
Kenny Rogers
Liberace
Anne Murray
PDQ Bach
The Weavers
Peter, Paul and Mary

elSicomoro 04-10-2007 12:05 PM

I'm going to see the Reverend Horton Heat for the 12th time in August here in St. Louis. Prior to that, the last concert I went to was the DMB tour opener here last spring.

Not to mention Diana Ross...what, no CeCe Peniston or Erasure?

glatt 04-10-2007 01:05 PM

ditto that weiner kids comment. (Whatever a weiner kid is.)

Last concert was The Samples, but that doesn't count so much since my brother in law is their drummer. That was last time they were in town. It was cold. Maybe November?

Not counting them, it would have to be The Dead, which was two years ago, I think.

Going to operas doesn't count, right?

Diana Ross sucked. Don't even know who CeCe or Erasure is.

DanaC 04-10-2007 04:49 PM

Ooooh. Adam Ant?! I used to lurve the Ants. In fact, the first album I ever bought was the Prince Charming album. *grins* I used to pinch my mum's nivea and paint a white stripe across my nose with it and dance to the Dandy Highwayman. Oh I knew allll the dances off by heart. I bet I could still do 'em:P

Sheldon. Erasure were a really brilliant brit band in the eighties. Unashamedly gay at a time when our government were bringing in the infamous Clause 28 (which prohibited any local authority from 'actively promoting homosexuality'...e.g teachers advising kids who were becoming aware of their gay sexuality, any books or other materials which presented homosexuality as a valid and equally acceptable path etc). The lead singer had an amazing voice and the music was great. Ship of Fools was a brilliant song.

Really?! How can you be gay and not know who Erasure is?! :)

rigcranop 04-10-2007 07:26 PM

Carlos Santanna, last fall at the Borgata in A.C... Excellent!

DucksNuts 04-11-2007 05:33 AM

I'm back!!!

Shattered and hung over....but had a ball.
Har Mar Superstar were the support act....OMG...fucken funniest thing ever. He got down to his jox as per normal.

Sean had all the girls squealing and the boys boooing their heads off.

RHCP were great, I did expect a little more, but I loved it. The instrumentals made my chest rattle (great feeling) but did go for a LONG time.

High energy, but I must comment on the fact that I didnt feel they engaged the audience...but I have been spoiled by the likes of Robbie Williams :)

lol!!!

I was more a fan of OMD and Eurythmics in the 80s.

Hime 04-11-2007 10:25 AM

I'm seeing TV on the Radio and the Noisettes pretty soon. I've seen TVotR before and they were really good, and I'm looking forward to the Noisettes.

The last show I went to was a huge St. Patrick's Day festival with Flogging Molly headlining.

tissy_uk 04-11-2007 11:10 AM

Glad you enjoyed yrself ducks. I not been to a gig for years but the best one i ever went to was The Cramps back in the early 90's. They were just effing mental, it was amazing

DucksNuts 04-15-2007 07:44 PM

OK - Pink tickets are won and paid for....good seats, off to the side of the runway.

Also, got my Gwen Stefani tickets (concert not till August tho)...they are FANTASTIC seats....3 row from the front.

Silverchair and Missy Higgins to go :)

Ibby 04-16-2007 10:25 PM

I've only seen Several Species (a (really good!) floyd cover band), Tally Hall (in delaware, and an acoustic set in my basement!), and Yngwie Malmsteen.

BUT

Dragonforce. Taipei. May 22.
I WILL be there.

Flint 04-16-2007 10:34 PM

I've been saving these notes to write a review of the Zappa Plays Zappa show, but since I haven't done it yet, here they are:

Bozzio lyrics
I'm So Cute and Tryin' To Grow a Chin from Sheik Yerbouti
drumming sounds "like a parody of a speed metal band"

the homo-erotic saga of Punky's Whips

Black Page drum solo (as a duet)
followed by the Black Page from Live in New York
with melodic accompaniment from Steve Vai

Napoleon Murphy Brock
hilarious antics on Montana
and Cheepnis:
"I ate a hot dog
It tasted real good
Then I watched a movie
From hollywood"

instrumental masterpiece Peaches En Regalia

bizarre arrangement of Trouble Every Day

keyboard solo

guitar duels

Bozzio solo material from Drawing The Circle
technical difficulties
Bozzio references Family Guy "Trisha Takanawa"

zippyt 04-16-2007 11:02 PM

SRV at the Paladeum in LA in the early 80's
The Blues Brothers in Memphis in the late 70's
The Stones in Memphis in the late 90's
George Throgood and the destroyers in a BIG bar in Memphis in the mid 70's ( DAMN he ROCKED that bar !!! The WHOLE place was Jumpin'!!!!! )

I was PAID to go to Barry Manalow with my sister by my mother .

That's what you do when you give antiobiotics to a bovine: cure-a-kow

tissy_uk 04-18-2007 04:11 AM

Bo Diddley is in town in june, hopefully there are tickets left, and Bill Wyman and the Rhythm Kings are coming in september. Oh, also in june is Roger Chapman & the Shortlist with guests, theSteve Gibbons Band. Eek, I can't afford 2 gigs in 1 month, which one should i go to???

Spexxvet 04-18-2007 10:14 AM

Prior to a year ago, the last concert I went to was Yes, at the Spectrum. My wife and I skipped the last childbirth class for our first kid to go to the concert. The kid is now almost 16. In the last year I've seen Blow Up Hollywood, Eric Clapton, and Joseph Arthur (3 times). Last night we saw Joseph Arthur at the TLA, Stars of Track and Field opened for him.

SadistSecret 04-18-2007 10:28 AM

Last Concert I saw was the Division Bell Tour (Pink Floyd), back in '94. I was probably the youngest person there, being only 6 at the time. I Loves Teh Floyd.

somekind 04-25-2007 05:08 PM

Just saw Iggy pop live... that guy is still going.

DucksNuts 05-13-2007 07:01 PM

I'm off to see PINK tomorrow nite...WOO HOOO.

New fella in tow :)

DucksNuts 05-29-2007 08:18 PM

I meant to come here and say that P!NK would be one of the most awesomest entertainer type people I have seen.

She delivered in every possible way, great costumes, humour, attitude. The crowd, well...the mosh pit needed to be sacked! There was no moshing, there was hardly much action down there at all.

But the look on the enthralled audiences faces were kinda amusing. It was just *wow*.

Pink up on those twirly ribbons, up in a net wearing just an animal print bikini...great stuff.

The company wasnt so bad either (in fact....he was friggin awesome!!).

TheMercenary 05-29-2007 09:24 PM

Trying to make arrangements to go see Dave Mathews in Sept in Florida.

rkzenrage 05-30-2007 08:48 AM

I'm going, never really knew about the band until now (looked em' up since I'm going). My wife's friend has VIP tickets.

Elspode 06-02-2007 01:15 AM

I just found out today that I am accompanying a single lady friend to see Pat Matheney on the 15th. It is always cool when he comes to town since he is, in fact, from here.

DucksNuts 06-02-2007 05:30 AM

Missy Higgins was great!!!

The date was a frackin' dud, so I ditched him as soon as the concert was over and went back to the hotel and had a spa n some wine.

I have no clue whats wrong with me, thats 2 guys I have been out with and not slept with ???

DucksNuts 07-31-2007 09:18 PM

I'm off to Gwen Stefani tomorrow nite :D

Christina has cancelled her Melbourne concerts due to her pregnancy....sooo glad I didnt get tickets to her!

I am struggling to find a date though.
