Peace of Mind

"let me tell you something jc, you will never know what girls want because they themselves do not know. you dont NEED to solve their puzzles, or interpret signals, what you need is a girl who doesn't play games, a girl who will honestly tell you how she feels, and most importantly a girl who will help you and allow you to make her happy. if you do find this girl, or maybe you already have, then congratulations...otherwise, don't blame yourself man, people will only be as happy as they allow themselves to be, regardless of what others do for them...any type of relationship takes work, but remember that its a give-and-take"
-AD

This is a brilliant thought from one of my friends, let's call him AD. It's really helping me get through these hard times that I have made numerous posts on "Relationships" about. I'm only 19. Each day I get less and less attatched and I feel more and more excited for next year when I get a house with 4 of my other friends and we host parties and the girls come to ME! Hahaha, ok that made me seem like a douchebag I know but seriously. I'll get to meet new people, be more FREE, instead of restricting my thinking. This year, my freshman year I sacrificed, thinking she'd come join me next year. Didn't plant any seeds with any "prospects." Since I'm already accepting that me and my girl probably won't work out in the end. We think differently, about education, values, and relationships it seems. Love truly isn't enough. I've found complicating factors can make a relationship so unhealthy that sometimes love just can't prevail. She probably won't go to U of I anyway. And we both know we can't do the long distance relationship much longer. For example, she hasn't called me all day, and it's 10:27 PM right now. If I called her she'd just snap and say "I was gonna call you tonite, oh my GOD!" But right now I'm like whatever. I got my own stuff to do, can't wait for her any longer sometimes. I need to startint living my life.

I just know that whatever relationship I get into next, I will NEVER give out my love so easily and will NOT rush things the way I did with her.
I think I've searched and have found that piece of mind, that gives me, well, peace of mind.

Wise words from AD ,
I give new groomes a little talk about relationships , it goes like this ,
" a good relationship is a Verry simple equation ,
1+1=1 ,
as in 1 indivigual + 1 indivigual = 1 couple , it is give and take on BOTH sides ,
some times its best for you to say " Yes Dear " and some times its her turn ,
and be Adults about it ,
hell if you are old enough to get married then you are old enough to try and make it work ,
Marrage is NOT a desposible thing , it is a LASTING commitment ,
good AND bad , it will just make your bond stronger!! "

*chuckles* no it doesn't. It makes you sound young .....that's cool, young is what you are. I think you made more sense in this post than practically any other you've made. I don't know anything about your girlfriend, and I know precious little about you, so I may be speaking out of turn, but here goes. Everything you've posted recently has sounded like you are in the middle of a crisis. You seem to be hanging on constantly for reassurances that aren't forthcoming and then getting yourself wound up and angry when they don't. You're 19 years old, living away from home and studying at university. This could be the happiest time for you, a chance to experiment with life (and people) and be truly free. Life ties you down soon enough m'dear, this is your chance for real freedom, enjoy it whilst it's yours to enjoy.

That's just my tupp'en'orth, if I am out of line, I apologise.

No thanks very much for your comment. I just don't know what tupp'en'orth means. :D

DanaC 04-06-2007 10:39 AM

*grins* it means 'two pennies worth'

piercehawkeye45 04-06-2007 03:06 PM

Damn Brits...

Dana brought up a really good point though. You just need to relax and not let everything stress you out, it is much easier that way to enjoy yourself.

BigV 04-06-2007 05:33 PM

You know, now that I finally found someone that will put up with my shit...the relationship just sorta happened. We had already known each other for 7 years and spent about a month just getting to know each other better before things ramped up. I really believe it was meant to happen that way...I just went with the flow and the flow took me to the right spot.

Artist: Bill Withers Lyrics
Song: Ain't No Sunshine Lyrics
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
It's not warm when she's away
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And she always gone too long anytime she goes away

Wonder this time where she's gone
Wonder if she's gone to stay
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And this house just ain't no home
Anytime she goes away

And I know, I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know, I know
I know, I know

Hey I'll leave the young thing alone
But ain't no sunshine when she's gone
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
Only darkness everyday

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And this house just ain't no home
Anytime she goes away
Anytime she goes away
Anytime she goes away
Anytime she goes away

Artist: Bill Withers Lyrics
Song: Use Me Lyrics
My friends feel it's their appointed duty
They keep trying to tell me
All you want to do is use me
Ha, ha, but my answer, ha, ha
Yeah, to all that use me stuff
Is I wanna spread the news
That if it feels this good getting used
Oh, you just keep on using me
Until you use me up

Until you use me up

My brother, sit me right down
And he talked to me, ah-ha
He told me, ah-ha
That I ought not to let you just walk on me
And I'm sure he meant well
Yeah, but when our talk was through
I-I-I said brother, if you only knew
You'd wish that you were in my shoes
You just keep on using me
Until you use me up

Until you use me up

Oh sometimes, it's true you really do abuse me
You get in a crowd of high class people
And then you act real rude to me
But oh baby, baby, baby, baby
When you love me I can't get enough
I-I and I, wanna spread the news
That if it feels this good getting used
Oh, you just keep on using me
Until you use me up

Until you use me up

Talking about you using me
But it all depends on what you do
It ain't too bad the way you're using me
'Cause I sure am using you
To do the things you do
Ah-ha, to do the things you do

Artist: Etta James Lyrics
Song: At Last Lyrics
At last
my love has come along
my lonely days over
and life is like a song

Ooh At last
the skies above are blue
well my heart was wrapped up in clover
the night I looked at you

I found a dream
that I could speak to
a dream that I could call my own
I found a thrill
to press my cheek to
a thrill that I have never known

well

You smile
you smile
oh and then the spell was cast
and here we are in heaven
for you are mine at last

I found a dream
that I could speak to
a dream that I
could call my own
I found a thrill
to press my cheek to
a thrill that I have never known

well

You smile
you smile
oh and then the spell was cast
and here we are in heaven
for you are mine at last

ooo yea
you are mine
you are mine
at last
at last
at last
at last

Title: Never Can Say Goodbye lyrics
Artist: The Jackson 5

Chorus:
Never can say goodbye
No no no no, I
Never can say goodbye

Even though the pain and heartache
Seems to follow me wherever I go
Though I try and try to hide my feelings
They always seem to show
Then you try to say you're leaving me
And I always have to say no...

Tell me why
Is it so

That I
Never can say goodbye
No no no no, I
Never can say goodbye

Everytime I think I've had enough
I start heading for the door
There's a very strange vibration
piercin me right to the core
It says turn around you fool
You know you love her more and more

Tell me why
(tell me why)
Is it so
(is it so)
Don't wanna let you go!

I can never can say goodbye girl
(never can say goodbye girl)
ou ou baby
(don't wanna let you go girl)
I never can say goodbye
no no no no no no no no no no no

ou! oh!
I never can say goodbye girl
(never can say goodbye girl)
ouuuuuuuu ouuuuuuuuuu
never can say goodbye
no no no no no no no no no no no

(chorus)

I keep thinkin that our problems
Soon are all gonna work out
But there's that same unhappy feeling and there's that anguish, there's that
doubt
It's the same old did ya hang up
Can't do with you or without

Tell me why
Is it so
Don't wanna let you go

[Chorus] (and ad libs)

[Repeat till fade]

Very good advice. Some of the best times you will ever have are in college, work hard at making them so.

freshnesschronic 04-07-2007 09:55 PM

Yep. Everything's good between us. For now. Hopefully it will last though.
So all these song lyrics supposed to represent my new outlook on life and relationships, huh?

zippyt 04-07-2007 10:02 PM

That was al good BigV UNTILL you quoted the jackson 5 ,
Michael has RUINED any chance of them being good any more !!

freshnesschronic 04-07-2007 10:14 PM

Is that a joke? Michael made the Jackson 5. Forget his personal life, as an artist he is the GREATEST singer ever and an extraordinary songwriter and musician. Arguable the greatest musical artist of the century. Musically, he is pure genius.

Anyone seen that Chapelle's show clip with Dave in the courtroom? "He made Thrilla. :sniff: Thrilla."

Aliantha 04-07-2007 10:59 PM

As an entertainer he's a genius. Musically, most of his work is pretty simple, and there are a million singers who have better voices.

What about Elvis, The Beetles, U2 et al?

I know we have our own opinions, and I respect them all, but it's like someone turned the world upside down just when you said that :worried:

It's not an opinion about his music being relatively simple fresh. It's a fact. Yes some of his later arrangements have included a lot of embelishments, but the basic structure is simple. He didn't break any ground musically. Only as an entertainer.

Do you have any qualifications musically with which to refute this fact? Just curious.

Ok, when you invent the pop music genre, that might be some cause to say he knows his shit. And yes, since I know music theory and have read some of MJ's scores and I really don't know where it considered ordinary. His contribution to music in the past 25 years cannot be matched, sorry Red Hot Chili Peppers, sorry Yoyo Ma, sorry Il Divo. No fucking way. And that should be obvious, when you invent your own genre.
Breaking grounds musically. Artists nowadays sound the way they do because of him. His voice? I can name a bunch of artists who try to sound like MJ, but none of them can. Aren't one hit wonders enough evidence? One track where their voice sounds decent, then their career is idle and eventually dies. Because their voice sounds good for one track. Do you know how developed his range is? Not just his falsetto, but his natural range beats out that of some women singers. And did you ever hear him on the Jackson 5? That is some of the most ridiculous singing ever recorded. EVER. Hands down. Now I won't compare him with opera because that is a different utilization of the voice. But anyways, his voice is and always will be amazing. Definitely. Also, do you know why music videos are abundant? Because of him, and because of Thriller. The music industry was totally revolutionized because of Michael. Music videos provided another way to make revenue.

Michael is so influential in music, would it not be correct to many contemporary artists look to HIM as a blueprint of a successful pop song. Usher, Mariah Carey, Justin Timberlake, huge names like this credit Michael in their pop music rise to stardom. And it is well due.

And don't get me started on his song writing. Nearly ALL of his albums he wrote or co-write. Not only his stuff, but other artists, like Lionel Richie just to use one big name. This isn't your basement song writer with his guitar progressing from a I chord to a IV chord to a V chord with lyrics like "I want you, yes it's true, oh girl, you're my world." No, we are talking about lyrics that are so fucking good they result in albums that are global phenomenon. Songwriting is hard ass shit and MJ is one of the best ever.

I can't emphasize enough how important MJ has been to musical evolution of contemporary times. No one had taken over and dominated the American public musically since Elvis. And I wholeheartedly think that it will be a while til something or someone will.

Undertoad 04-08-2007 09:07 AM

FUuuuuCK! I say we kill him, drag his body through the streets behind a Stryker, then burn it and hang it off a bridge. Who's with me!! This is SPARTAAAAA!

Just one question fc: have you ever heard the name Quincy Jones?

freshnesschronic 04-08-2007 11:20 AM

I play trumpet so yes, yes I have. And he's from Chicago, like me.

He produced MJ's album, Thriller. A musical legend.

Undertoad 04-08-2007 11:53 AM

He produced all of MJ's best work. He made most of the decisions you're crediting to MJ. He hired the musicians, he chose each vocal track.

He did "Off the Wall", "Thriller" and "Bad". Compare and contrast to every MJ record since then. Where's the talent?

freshnesschronic 04-08-2007 03:19 PM

Hm, maybe so, I did not know of those productions, just Thriller. But you're next statement said he has no talent. I can never agree with that.

freshnesschronic 04-08-2007 08:52 PM

If artists don't have talent, then we need to credit the producers 100%. Artists don't mean anything? It's all about the production crew? Music producers need artists, just like artists need producers. It's a very very mutual relationship. One can't survive without the other. If Michael didn't have the voice, song writing capabilities or whatever, then Jones would have just had a great arrangement idea. But no actual, demonstration. You can't discredit MJ at all, really. I'm not discrediting Quincy Jones, but I'm definitely not discrediting Michael either.

Urbane Guerrilla 04-14-2007 05:04 AM

I'm more of a Warren Zevon man than a Michael Jackson man -- though I particularly enjoyed one lyric from "Black And White": "I ain't spending my life being a color," which I thought a very smart thing to say.

Now Mr. Zevon's lyrics were often brainy stuff. And he did come up with the elegiac line about "Don't let us get stupid, all right. . ."
