What clothes do you wear...

that you really shouldn't be wearing anymore?

I have a pair of jeans that I've been wearing since I was 18. They were probably the first article of clothing I bought after starting college. I was wearing them when I first met my fiance, so they have some sentimental value.

On the other hand, my jeans size and entire body type has changed since buying them. They now hang low enough around my hips that I can only wear them with long shirts or super-low-rise undies. The seat is stretched-out and saggy and the knees have completely dissolved, and the ends are about as frayed as possible. Needless to say, they have gone from my favorite jeans color, dark indigo, to a shade that harks back to the days of high-tops and Mayim Bialik.

And yet, I can't seem to stop wearing them, let alone throw them out. Something about really old denim makes it sooo soft and comfortable, and besides, sentimental value, man!

Am I alone in this?

rkzenrage 04-02-2007 04:02 PM

I have a very faded, shallow cord, brown jacket that is ugly, but I love it.

You are in your early 20s right? So that makes these jeans like 5-6 years old?

I have clothes I wear (and probably shouldn't) that are almost as old as you. Sweatshirts mostly.

piercehawkeye45 04-02-2007 04:13 PM

I have some shirts that I have had for a good 3-4 years (a lot for someone under 25 and I wear them regularly every week). It is starting to rip under the armpits and I hate the new "style" of clothes so it is hard to find shirts I like.

Trilby 04-02-2007 04:20 PM

a snorkle, flippers and kilt.

I really need to retire this outfit. It's so recherche nowadays.

Cloud 04-02-2007 05:30 PM

pantyhose. They are so "out" now, but my bare legs look worse.

Just add nipple clips with a chain and it's a whole new look.

Pocket Tee and jeans everywhere, all the time, except one dark Blue(Boeing) shirt and a blue tie with automotive differentials, for funerals.
No Peacock in me.

No Shel, none.

elSicomoro 04-02-2007 05:46 PM

As a 31-year-old, I probably have no business wearing lime green Crocs...but I do anyway because they rule as much as I do.

I work in a very professional environment and I wear crocs all of the time - I have a pair of light blue ones and two pairs of mary jane style in black and brown. Hopefully, I will get a pair in red and maybe navy blue. They are the #1 rated shoe by podiatrist, so if anyone has a problem with me wearing them, they can pay for any foot and back problems I may have later by wearing other shoes.

As for clothes that I wear that I shouldn't anymore, I think I got rid of most of them. I like to wear pants under my dresses - like jeans or cords. I am sure it looks ridiculous, but it's comfortable and keeps me warm.

TheMercenary 04-02-2007 07:29 PM

Short Skirts.

TheMercenary 04-02-2007 07:33 PM

Actually I have these shorts that were issued to me, they call them UDT shorts. We wore them all the time on deployment. They are really short. I have big legs and so they even look shorter. I wore them out once and I will never wear them again like that. I didn't think it would be that big of a deal but I guess a dude in short shorts is a no go. They were really comfortable. Here is what they look like:

Yea, we ran in them, went swimming in them, hung around shooting the shit, and slept in them. They would get wet and be dry in about 10 min. I have issued pairs that are khaki and I bought some after market tiger stripe because I thought they were cool looking. They are tight, but that is how they are cut. Guess some people just don't get it.

ravenranter 04-02-2007 09:22 PM

My poncho. I've been wearing it for about twenty years now. I've had picnics on it, used it as a car blanket, hid under downpours and wore pajama bottoms under it in the emergency room. It's my equivalent of Linus' blanket and I'll probably drag it around until it disintegrates. :)

I had a pair of black Aspens (ones that have no holes at all) that I used to wear at my last regular job. I'll probably buy another pair, since my current boss is not keen on me wearing the green ones. Great conversation pieces, though. :)

DucksNuts 04-02-2007 10:02 PM

:worried: the crocs craze scares me

zippyt 04-02-2007 10:06 PM

I rested getting a pair of those faggy clog like things ,
but well I tried a pair on and they felt GREAT ,
I have a fake El-Walmarto knock off pair ,
VERRRRRY comfy !!

piercehawkeye45 04-02-2007 10:14 PM

Merc- I understand about the shorter shorts thing but damn, looking at the picture that wouldn't even go a quarter down the thigh.

My athletic shorts are usually in-between halfway up thigh to knees. My regular shorts go down a little past my knees.

I never really saw the problem with shorts that don't go past the knee. I find them more comfortable if I work out.

bluecuracao 04-03-2007 01:57 AM

Hey, he looks very comfortable!

Aliantha 04-03-2007 01:58 AM

I got told today that I need to dress more conservatively for work. No more jeans and spagetti straps. :(

So I went and bought a couple of pairs of black slacks and some button down the front shirts on the way home.

How depressing.

Sundae 04-03-2007 03:32 AM

I am wearing knock-off black crocs today. But they have a real Crocs shoe charm stuck in them (picked it up at the nursery fair I went to last week)

These aren't quite as comfy as my real red ones - well, before I wore them to death and split the bottom - but they are comfier than any other shoes in my wardrobe.

OMG I've just looked up shoe charms on ebay. That's my morning gone then...

DucksNuts 04-03-2007 04:56 AM

Really Alli??? Should come work with me!

I had to work the trade show Friday/Saturday and got sent home Friday to put on something more appropriate...

Boss..."jesus, you cant go dressed like THAT!!"

Me..."wha? whats wrong with this?"

Boss..."duck home and put on something more....I dunno...more bimboish".

I didnt think blue was appealing, especially when its skin colour.

Yea, that show is pretty funny sometimes, mostly I find they are trying a bit to hard to be funny.

This is a bit more typical of a deployment relaxation period:

Oh sure, I have clothes that are way older -- sweaters that come out a few times every year, a few dressy blouses that hide in the back of the closet -- just nothing that I've worn quite so often, year-round, for so long.

Hime 04-03-2007 09:05 AM

Also, Merc, you are totally my new best friend for posting that picture! *treasures it forever*

And I've never had crocs, but I had a pair of knock-off Ugg boots -- I felt like an idiot wearing them, but they were so warm and comfy in the winter!

Dude, you deliver pizza. Your boss should be grateful that you show up at all.

wolf 04-03-2007 01:00 PM

I have an assortment of tee shirts that should probably get tossed, but I keep justifying hanging onto them by saying things like, "well, I'll only wear them under sweatshirts."

lol...yes really ducks. I had an incident with one of my staff last saturday (he happens to be a preacher and 65 and dutch/south african so incredibly conservative) and the boss thinks it'd be best if I at least give the impression that I'm a grown up. I personally think we should just fuck him off, but it's not my call just now although he wont be working my shifts for much longer, so that's good. :)

kerosene 04-03-2007 07:20 PM

I have this velvet shirt that has been around for probably a good 10 years...it is black and stretchy and it fits me no matter what size I happen to be. As a 19 year old, it was a little loose but looked good...at 26, when I was 60 lbs heavier, it was a bit snug, but still looked good. Now that I am thinner again, I still wear the damn thing. It has little strings hanging off the bottom, but I figure people don't notice.

Aliantha 04-03-2007 08:31 PM

They're fucking tools. Nice guys...confused businessmen.

Of all the shoes I've worn delivering pizzas, the Crocs have been by far the most comfortable.

Nah, I'll step out of that picture.

You can photoshop me into a crowded North London pub, where the crush means that Simon Pegg has me pinned against the wall because he doesn't want to miss a second of my scintillating conversation...

rkzenrage 04-04-2007 05:37 PM

I still wear my punk stuff... sometimes I think I'm too old for my leather jacket with the bullets and stuff on it and old T-shirts with stupid stuff on them.
But, still feels like me. *sings Holiday In Cambodia to self*

Hime 04-09-2007 01:56 PM

Nah, old punks are awesome. Like the 50ish guy who worked in our college library's film department, and went on a whole trip down memory lane when my brother walked in wearing a Stooges t-shirt. :)

duck_duck 04-09-2007 04:51 PM

I sometimes still wear my hello kitty T-shirt that I've had since I was 12. :p

DanaC 04-09-2007 07:28 PM

Green baseball boots. As far as I am concerned they go with everything. Brown mini skirt? yup. Combat pants? yup. Smart black suit for Council meetings? Yup.

Ibby 04-09-2007 09:59 PM

Most of my clothes went out of fashion around...

...1978.

tissy_uk 04-10-2007 10:47 AM

Most of my clothes are old enough to have come back into fashion! But i refuse to this seasons neon look...very late 80's, a look I've tried to avoid. I have several OLD pairs of jeans, but some how they keep ripping across the ass. Does my bum look big in these???

celina 04-10-2007 07:18 PM

nothing but jeans...

celina 04-10-2007 07:19 PM

and capris

DucksNuts 04-12-2007 12:54 AM

Thats all??

Urbane Guerrilla 04-14-2007 07:04 AM

I always thought UDT shorts looked ballsquashing tight. They're actually comfortable?

I've mostly given up wearing black berets, variously bedecked, as around-town wear. Really, at fifty or so one should accessorize a black beret with a stand of Highland bagpipes. Then the otherwise-bemused onlooker is sure to get it.

How about a nice cape to go with that beret?:eyebrow:

Urbane Guerrilla 04-15-2007 04:43 AM

Cape or cloak? No way!
