Lunar eclipse
 

Didja see it?

Just caught it - we came out of the cinema at about 11.45 pm and it was a full eclipse then. Got home and treated our dog to a late night walk and we were able to see it work its way across and virtually clear the moon by the time we finished one hour later.

Pure luck we saw it as had not caught previous info about it.

At full eclipse it looked ghostly and almost as if a ball was hanging in the sky quite close by. Made me think how in primitive times it would be a sign of the gods being angry with a human sacrifice the only way to appease them. Aaah, those were the days!

barely saw it. Pretty overcast here. Watched for it out my open bedroom window while lying on my bed with my two kids. We spent about an hour waiting for the clouds to break. Saw it several times during that hour, but never clearly.

Here in the eastern US, the Moon will rise in full eclipse. I won't see it because I live in a hole. ;)

What time did it end? I looked at about 9PM, and it was over.

Don't know, I just read it would come up full eclipse but no time for moonrise? :cool:

Dont' know the times in your parts of the world - all I had to do was simply sit in the "den" and glance up through the skylight window to check the progress of the eclipse. I saw all the stages from the shadow creeping up over the moon from below to the bright edge of returning full moonlight ... lovely!

You pretty much just missed it then.

This was the view from Arlington VA at around 7:30. Damn clouds.

So it did happen in VA! Thanks for the pix. So hard to see it here in the daylight. :neutral: Thats what I get for moving to AZ from Alex. VA last year. (Still a good move.)

Gah, I only heard about this today. I'm away from the Internet for two days, and look what happens.

I haven't seen a total lunar eclipse since 2000 because it's been that long since any have been visible from eastern Australia. The lunar eclipse due in August will be visible from here. It will be the first one for seven years! Let's hope the weather is clear on that night.

Just drive to Qld. It's bound to be clear! Or maybe that'll be the one night of the decade that clouds will gather.

No, I don't want to bring the clouds with me. I swear, I must be cursed. If I want the sky to be clear, it is likely than not that the clouds will sneak up on me. Total eclipse of the sun, annular eclipse of the sun, several partial eclipse of the sun, comet smashing into Jupiter, comet visible in daylight, numerous lunar eclipses - I have been clouded out for all of them.

I have seen some of the eclipses I wanted to see, but many times the clouds thwart my plans.

Well you do live in Melbourne. What do you expect?

I expect the statistical average of clouds, nothing more.

Eclipse was already underway at moonrise ... had started around 1500 hrs, I think.

Sounds about right, it got dark during lil' Ps tourney, but it was too cloudy to see anything.

It was gorgeous and we were able to watch it all from start to finish. Did anyone else see a bright green flash at the top rim of the moon (so scientific duh) in the final moments before the eclipse? Nobody else I've spoken to seems to have...:alien: Any Triffids about..?

Sat night we went out with the in-laws for dinner. I forgot about it till I looked out the car window on the way and thought, damn, the moon was practically full last ni..OH DUH!!. It was about 6:40pm, and only the top right third was covered. By the time we got out of the restaurant, it was over. If I hadn't been with the 'rents, I would have gone back for my camera, because it was a totally clear view at the time. :(
