Do you wear a watch?

or just use your phone?

I haven't worn a watch in a long time, mostly because I have issues with my wrists. But I wished I had one while traveling recently.

are they necessities?

. . . or accessories?

Aliantha 03-01-2007 12:17 AM

I never wear a watch. If you're not in a place where there's a clock to see, you don't need to know the time. ;)

That's my motto and it works well for me. I'm hardly ever late for anything either. In fact, most people say I'm the most punctual person they know.

DucksNuts 03-01-2007 03:35 AM

I wear a watch whenever I leave the house.

Its more about fashion, but I do like to have one with the date on it :)

elSicomoro 03-01-2007 08:27 AM

I wore one from the time I was a kid until about 1997. Then I just used my pager, and now my cell phone.

Perry Winkle 03-01-2007 08:32 AM

I don't normally wear one. But I will be wearing one on my bike trip for the alarm.

LabRat 03-01-2007 08:32 AM

I lose them all the time, so I voted sometimes.

When I know where one is, I usually wear one.

My phone is an old POS. The time is always wrong. Nokia 5190, almost 7 years old...

I don't wear any jewelry. Also, I don't carry a purse.

The modern mobile phone gets its time from the network and is more accurate than any watch.

I know mine is right, because I've compared its time to that of my Oregon Scientific WWVB-synchronized clocks.

I will occasionally out-geek even hardcore geeks.

Trilby 03-01-2007 08:49 AM

I started wearing a watch this past fall--but only to classes. I take it off as soon as I get home. Real expensive, classy model---$14.99 at Meijer.

Shawnee123 03-01-2007 08:53 AM

I wore a cute one I bought in San Diego, until it broke. I was out 10 bucks! :)

I find that if I get into the habit of wearing one, I start to depend on it. If I don't wear one for a while I don't miss it.

Shopping malls and casinos are the only places where they don't want you to know what time it is.

elSicomoro 03-01-2007 10:04 AM

I found out this morning that April paid $30 for this Nike watch sitting next to me...totally not worth it, IMO.

lumberjim 03-01-2007 10:24 AM

i do. i have very specific watch requirements:

leather band
white face
analog
date
indiglo

other than that.......whatever.

elSicomoro 03-01-2007 10:34 AM

I still have two of my old Swatches. I'd still wear them today if I were a watch-wearer.

jinx 03-01-2007 10:42 AM

I wear my Swatch sometimes, but I'm more used to checking my phone for the time.

Yup. I like wearing a watch.

Flint 03-01-2007 12:28 PM

I can't have anything on me, especially my hands and wrists. That's how I ended up with my tattoo.

lumberjim 03-01-2007 12:33 PM

that's just what i mean, glatt. does it light up? mine looks almost exactly the same.....except it says timex, and the band is darker.

cowhead 03-01-2007 12:35 PM

got burned out on wearing one.. when I did I was looking at it all the damn time.. but I do agree with lumberjim about watch requirements.
although I prefer a blackface watch.. timex still makes the model my grandfather owned (although indiglo now adays) and I just love that straightforward style.

lumberjim 03-01-2007 12:36 PM

most likely to wear a big honking watch with a lot of gadgets like usb drives and calculators: stevedallas

Nope. That would be cool though.

It was a gift, and I really ended up liking it.

rkzenrage 03-01-2007 01:45 PM

I have several, but usually wear a thick leather band watch with a rectangle Fossil on it.

Black 2 1/2" with a blue striped faced watch.

Trilby 03-01-2007 01:47 PM

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooo--me likey glatt's watch. Very nice.

Sundae 03-01-2007 02:42 PM

I have a Tag Heuer. It is both my most expensive and my favourite possession. Unfortunately it needs a new battery and that costs about £70 so I'm not wearing it right now.

I occasionally wear a VERY PINK Hello Kitty watch, and one that looks like an apple from the local market (and cost me £2). I can't find either of them right now - I think the cats cached them (don't laugh, they do it with my earplugs)

So I've gone from someone who checks the time obsessively, to someone with no watch on at all. I feel quite liberated.

monster 03-01-2007 02:54 PM

phone. Or car clock. which is set 15 minutes fast. it doesn't seem to help me get places on time, but my kids are very good at subtracting 15 from numbers less that 60. :)

Spexxvet 03-01-2007 03:10 PM

It took me a long time, but I found one that's both analog AND digital!

lumberjim 03-02-2007 08:19 PM

my wrists are too hairy for those metal bands. owie

zippyt 03-02-2007 08:27 PM

that only last for a few days ,

capnhowdy 03-03-2007 12:02 PM

My cell works great. The less "things" I have to carry around/keep up with, the better I like it. And I have to have the phone, so..... there goes the watch.

Shawnee123 03-03-2007 12:55 PM

Do you have the time?

(I have the place):p

xoxoxoBruce 03-03-2007 06:14 PM

I wear a watch to work, no clocks, have to get the time from a computer.

Mom ~ I'm getting you a watch for Christmas, what do you want?
Me ~ Anything that I can tell the time at night, from passing under a streetlight, at 70mph, without my glasses.
I forgot to tell her silver to match my Speidel Twist-O-Flex band that's moved from watch to watch for twenty odd years, because it doesn't pull hair.

She got me a gold one like LJ's.

@ Sundae. 70 pounds, close to $140US, for a battery?

That struck me as funny. I have so much stuff that is more than 12 years old, and I still consider new.

freshnesschronic 03-03-2007 07:49 PM

The watch is now part of my genetic composition.

Sounds about right considering how much Tags cost...so if you get one as a gift like I did, you'll be crying (and/or putting it away, like Sundae) in about 5 years.

For me, for a watch to last more than ten years is a miracle. I have many shoes that are older... it is just for a watch to last that long is amazing for me.

bluecuracao 03-04-2007 01:56 AM

Girl...throw out those shoes!

rkzenrage 03-04-2007 02:20 AM

Nuh-uh... they be smokin' and I keep mine in plastic boxes. They have their own closet.
Don't say it!

bluecuracao 03-04-2007 02:30 AM

Aight. I'll look out for you on Cribs FLA.

wolf 03-04-2007 02:45 PM

I always wear a watch. Because I need to wear a watch at work for vitals, it's analog with a sweep second hand. The current watch is an old (early 90s, I'd guess) Wile E. Coyote watch from the Warner Brother's Store. When you push the button for the backlight, he gets electrocuted. Of course, I also have a Hello Kitty Watch Wardrobe (if you can call two a wardrobe) ... but because they are 'girl' watches the faces are pretty small and, uh, I'm overdue on my eye doctor appt and can't reliable read the dial without a lot of squinting and arm and head movement.

I really prefer pocket watches and have three or four, but in referring back to the doing vitals thing ... I don't have enough hands to manage the stethascope, BP cuff and the watch all at once.

Cyclefrance 03-04-2007 04:49 PM

I'm a budding watch freak! - OK so I started late - current everyday watch is a Dunhill bi-metal, but my Sundays and special days wach is a Rotary 9ct gold one that was a 21st birthday present (so that makes it 39 years old this year).

I have a small collection of 1940's watches - a Hamilton, a Bulova and an Elgin Driver's watch (the one with hinged lugs - you can wear it on the edge of your wrist so you don't have to turn your arm from the wheel to read the time).

On the novelty side I have a Mickey Mouse 50th Aniversary watch, a Minnie Mouse bubble watch and a Goofiie watch (it goes backwards with the numbers set in reverse sequence on the dial).

Anyone want pictures?

rkzenrage 03-04-2007 05:48 PM

I've got a backwards Goofy.

zippyt 03-04-2007 06:40 PM

Anyone want pictures?

send away , that Elgin Driver's watch sounds interesting

King 03-04-2007 06:58 PM

I go through phases with watch wearing. Right now I don't wear one. I feel like I should though...seems like something a 'together' person would do. Meh.
