December 29, 2006: World's smallest dog

http://cellar.org/2006/brandysmallestdog.jpg

Neatorama finds this item and I nick it just in time for a Friday image. Meet Brandy, who Guinness has just labeled the smallest dog in the world. From the full story:
Quote:

Size: 6 inches measured from the base of the neck to the base of the tail.

Weight: 1 pound, 13 ounces.

That proof, along with a picture of Brandy splayed across a dollar bill, was sent to Guinness.

So in the 2006 Guinness book, there is bug-eyed Brandy, on the same page with the dog who can fit the most tennis balls in its mouth 5. Seeing this, you wonder how many tiny chihuahuas it could carry.

The perks so far have numbered just one. Last year, the Pedigree dog food company paid to fly Ron and Paulette Keller to Reno, where Brandy was paired with one of the largest dogs in the world for a three-day exhibit at Harrah's casino. Next to the other dog, a Great Dane, Brandy looked like a chew toy.

That is NOT a dog. That, my friend, is a glorified rat. :)

At what point does a dog stop being a dog and start being an insect? 1 lb 13Oz seems about right.

Trilby 12-29-2006 09:16 AM

That's the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent you ever set eyes on!

Spexxvet 12-29-2006 09:28 AM

Just the right size to fit on a roll! Roast it on a stick over the campfire, and, voila!, dinner for one.

those chihuahuas have been known to KILL a great dane.......they get suck in the dane's throat and choke them to death.

MOre convenient than a Cornish Game Hen

If the owners had only hung Brandy up to dry instead of running her through the dryer, this never would have happened.

OK, and a 50lb bag of food would probably be a lifetime supply.

Gotta watch out for the fur getting stuck in your teeth, though. Better to skin 'em.

Shawnee123 12-29-2006 12:29 PM

Leash for its lifetime

Oh, dear. If only they had thought to scale down the eyes with the rest of her.

Did you see the article on the Japanese craze for tiny dogs that has made the country the canine genetic defect capitol of the world?

Maybe they should go back to the little electronic pets . . .

DanaC 12-30-2006 06:58 PM

My dog could eat that dog in a single bite.....as long as it didn't yap at him.

Or maybe we should just cut to the chase and develop little electronic pet-owners

Then they could calculate the risk factors of inbreeding and chances of having successfully replicated specific genes and get even MORE perfect little dogs!

Me? What is my post about? Nothing but the for the selfish self gratification and immortality of being the first poster of the year 2007..

Happy New year to all of you fine witty contributors who have given me more belly laughs than any other source in the last 365 days.

Cheers!
