Screen Shots
How do you capture screen shots? Stupid question, but I've never really needed to do this before.
|
The print screen button puts it on the clipboard, then paste it into Paint (or whatever).
|
Ctrl + prnt scrn is the whole screen.
Alt + prnt scrn is the Window that is "activated" Go to your favorite visual program and hit Ctrl + V and it will paste into the Window you have opened. Often you will have had to open a new one, many will automatically open a Window to the appropriate size. If not, just do one at 20x20 and then crop it to the area you want later. |
Wow. There's a button. Thanks.
|
I ususally just leave a dish of beer near the keyboard and see what turns up in the morning
|
salt.
can't beat it. find your jpeg, *slowley* approach from behind...... when you get to striking distance, throw salt on its tail. never fails. |
Whats the deal with this: I try to capture a screen shot like normal using that method while watching a movie, and it starts acting all funny. Basically not letting me manipulate the image contained within the window (in this case windows media player, but have also tried VLC) that was copied. I don't really know how to describe it but its becoming quite frustrating.

Mine doesn't seem to work.
Which didn't bother me before I knew about it - but does now. Whether I hit just the Print Screen button, or the Alt or Control buttons, nothing goes onto the clipboard and nothing is available to paste. Any ideas? |
shift + printscreen

Nope :(

it's a PC, right?...not a MAC...
|
It's a PC alright.
Any chance it's something to do with it being part of a network (no,I don't know what I'm talking about, just making suggestions) |
are the keyboard and monitor connected to the same PC? then it shouldn;t matter. maybe your keyboard is AFU.
|
I'm covering Reception now, on a different PC. Still no go. Maybe it's some weird IT conspiracy... When I get back to my desk I'll fake a reason to need a screenprint and call them.
Or I will tomorrow anyway (they'll have left by the time I finish on here) |

Also only some programs can acknowledge that clipboard copy. Programs that cannot understand graphics (ie Notepad), will show nothing to paste. |
I always thought a screenshot was something that happened when you were pron surfing and one-hand typing.

Oh, I know, I know:
Things to do with the old west? Oh, this isn't $10,000 Pyramid? Sorry...:o |
If you own the film and are using the images to just make your own wallpaper and not sell it in any way, that is fair use and not stealing in any way, even if you let a friend use it for their wallpaper and not putting it out there for the general public...
We have gotten far too shitty about this paranoia crap, like being ok with buying books that you can only use on one PC. It is fine to screen shot the damn thing and loan it to a friend... just like loaning a book you buy to a friend. Not letting you take the book you purchased with you is stealing from you, not the other way around. It is stealing from them only if you are making it public domain, selling it or using it for profitable environments (like your web-page or bar wall). |
Chances are the problem is caused by YV12 overlay or similar. I had this problem using YV12 overlay, I would take a screen cap but the area of the video would simply be an empty black space.
Try disabling your overlay features when you want to take a screen cap. |
my computers have never captured anything using shift/cntrl prntscrn button.
@ SundaeGirl There are many free and free trail programs out there that will do the job. My favorite is snagit since it has a few other artsy features. You can use it on a trial. There are others just google them.:) |

QUOTE] Use Alt & Print Screen, simultaneously. That's how I capture Flash images. ;) |
