November 25, 2006: Big-ass catfish

http://cellar.org/2006/bigasscatfish.jpg

The Daily Mail has the story of this new European record catfish haul.
Quote:

A British angler has landed a European record on his first catfishing expedition. Carl Smith, pictured right with friend Dave Jones, caught the 226lb wels catfish on holiday in Spain.

The men struggled with the 8ft monster for more than 90 minutes and have named it Jaws.
You want to talk about eating IotD animals? OK then.

lumberjim 11-25-2006 11:21 AM

holyfuckingshit

Karenv 11-25-2006 12:03 PM

And I thought the one foot catfish I caught as a kid were long. :-(

CaliforniaMama 11-25-2006 12:17 PM

jinx 11-25-2006 12:36 PM

Several grills.

So, what are the folks up at Loch Ness going to do for tourists now that these guys caught Nessie?

milkfish 11-25-2006 02:05 PM

It's obviously faked - the fish is normal-sized and those guys are only four inches tall.

zippyt 11-25-2006 04:20 PM

Catfish steaks for EVERYBODY !!!

Actually, I was just wondering if everyone else felt like having sex with that catfish or if it was just me?

No playing with your food Young MAN !!!!!

Sheldonrs 11-25-2006 05:38 PM

Size does matter.

Gleep 11-25-2006 09:49 PM

Fish smell bad in general--I'd hate to think what a fish that big smells like. I don't think I'd be willing to put a huge dead fish on my lap, no matter how much I wanted a picture.

Ibby 11-25-2006 10:15 PM

My only question...

did they go noodling for it?

zippyt 11-25-2006 10:35 PM

That would have been a site !!!

footfootfoot 11-25-2006 10:55 PM

poodle noodle puddle battle

DucksNuts 11-26-2006 12:03 AM

Whats noodling?

zippyt 11-26-2006 12:13 AM

Walking along in a swamp sticking your hand in holes under the water , feeling about , if you feel a cat fishes gills ( they tend to sit around on the bottom and in holes waiting for sometasty to swim into their mouths ) grab a hold and wrestle the fish to the surface , I have NEVER and will NEVER do it because
1) alagater snapping turtles tend to do the same thing ,
2) snakes hang out there as well ( snakes don't bother me so much when you know they are there , its when they supprise you that you tend to find trees with your face )

xoxoxoBruce 11-26-2006 12:47 AM

In that case, I'd rather be the eater than the catcher.

Sundae 11-26-2006 07:41 AM

For some reason the term noodling brought a very different idea to mind... I can't see any man risking that just for a fish though.

Aliantha 11-26-2006 07:33 PM

Fish don't smell bad when you first catch them. It's only after a few days in the fridge (moreso out of it) that they smell bad.

What I'd hate about having a catfish on my lap, even a small one, is the slime they have all over them.

Aliantha 11-26-2006 07:34 PM

btw..that's one fucking huge catfish.

footfootfoot 11-26-2006 08:44 PM

Didn't Australia grace us with "love serenade"?

"Breathe Vicki Ann, breathe!"

Aliantha 11-26-2006 09:24 PM

I've no idea what you're talking about.

Oafed 11-26-2006 10:08 PM

Nothing special here folks... Move along...

Where in the hell do people find these fucking huge fish?

milkfish 11-27-2006 06:31 AM

Wastewater streams near nuclear power plants.

I want to know whether "canoodling" means noodling from a canoe.

Shawnee123 11-27-2006 10:38 AM

I'm more concerned with how they catch those giant things more than where do they find them.

And, do they catch and release? (I hope)

I remember it being quite funny, but then I was a bit of a bake artist back in the day.

So it's not just me! And you thought IOTD animals were just for eating...

Yeah, right. Dinner, a movie, and who knows?

Yeah, what were these guys fishing with, steel cables? More than likely they were just out to catch your basic largemouth or crappie, but what happens when you've got a 220-pound catfish hooked onto your 6-pound line?

I'd bet they are related somehow - think - they are both sticking your fingers into damp fishy smelling places to see what you come up with......

rkzenrage 11-29-2006 12:37 AM

I doubt they noodled that one... I'd like to see that struggle.

mitheral 12-07-2006 01:38 AM

Man I'd never go back in the water if I caught one of those mamoths.
