Not particularly.

More skin is better than less skin performance wise, cleavage is encouraged greatly as are reasonably short skirts. The official dress code is *smart casual* though.

Of course there are!!! but they arent affiliated with the restaurant chain. *edit - or the airline chain if our news is to be believed

Quote:

is food served at your work?
Not for customer consumption. We serve food to our workers when we have BBQ's etc.

Quote:

Is alcohol served at your work?
About 4pm on Fridays or special occasions we DO serve alcohol. We dont charge for it though.

I'm thinkin' auto parts store, but I'm not ready to guess, but here in the US if you worked at many big chain auto parts places, you'd have a uniform. But not the smaller, independent places.

That is not a part of my day to day job, but I do it on occasion.

Quote:

Yes and some of them drive absolute shitters.

Quote:

6) Is dispensing advice to customers a common and expected part of your job?
It makes up a very small percentage of my job

Oh and I dont work in an auto parts store.

FWIW - we are in the top 10 particular retailers Australia wide for what we do, so we arent that small.

Quote:

7) Do you enjoy ''entertaining" your clients?
Only the cute ones :)

Quote:

8) Are your knees and elbows ever sore after work?
Weeeeelllll, I told you about the cheek incident a week or so ago. Knees arent often sore but I did have a nasty nasty bruise on my elbow thats just turned yellow.

Spexxvet 11-24-2006 09:52 AM

DucksNuts 11-24-2006 03:01 PM

They are wearing varying degrees of clothing at all times.

Are towels an important part of your workplace? aside from in the washroom.

Aliantha 11-24-2006 08:28 PM

Is personal hygiene important in your work place?

DucksNuts 11-24-2006 08:29 PM

Well...everyone turns up presentable and smelling fresh(ish), bodily functions are deemed important on garish level.

Tiddlywinks are fun :)

footfootfoot 11-24-2006 08:46 PM

The Australian Sailor's Hornpipe
(to the tune of the Sailor's Hornpipe)

Tiddlywinks, old bean
Have you ever seen a queen?
Have you ever seen a salmon up a dead sardine?
I've seen a tinker up a tailor,
And a soldier up a sailor
but I've never seen a salmon up a dead sardine.

Aliantha 11-24-2006 08:46 PM

Are you letting me play now?

footfootfoot 11-24-2006 08:48 PM

Do you receive tips from your clients?

DucksNuts 11-24-2006 09:12 PM

'snot really fair Ali, you know what I do :p

Quote:

Do you receive tips from your clients?
Tipping is not a big thing over here - at all!!!

Once I got advice on how to get a promotion...but I dont think that counts.

Aliantha 11-24-2006 09:15 PM

I once had sex with my boss, but I didn't get a promotion. I did get engaged though.

He turned out to be a fuckwit though...so that's another story.

footfootfoot 11-24-2006 09:19 PM

do you have male and female coworkers performing the same tasks?

footfootfoot 11-24-2006 09:37 PM

Ohhh over here, truck stop food is highly coveted. The prices of food over there are a bit funky. Considering you work on the tip system n all.

Our waiting staff get $16 to $18+ per hour and our prices are very similar....but in most other circumstances our costs are heaps more....the only place I found eating out prices in line was in Hawaii.

You aren't working at a truckstop are you?

DucksNuts 11-24-2006 09:38 PM

Quote:

YES

Quote:

Duhdoh!!

Ali, they always say...."its not who you know, its who you blow".

zippyt 11-24-2006 09:45 PM

duckie is the fuel island girl ???

DucksNuts 11-24-2006 10:01 PM

Nah - sorry zippy, I edited to add in the quotes because foot3 was posting at the same time I was.

SteveDallas 11-24-2006 10:22 PM

Tanning parlor?

Clodfobble 11-24-2006 10:27 PM

A lot of cleavage is encouraged--but you have male coworkers doing the same tasks...
You don't serve food--but you occasionally give away alcohol for free...
You imply that some customers may be in "varying" degrees of clothing--but towels are not involved...
You occasionally handle money and give advice, but not most of the time.
You provide both goods and services, and it is a large enough business to be in the top ten in the industry.

And you claimed that it should be easy to guess what you do? :eyebrow:

SteveDallas 11-24-2006 10:52 PM

Cruise Director? (Oh wait, there would be towels there. Ditto for the tanning parlor I guess.)

Did I claim that??

OK OK - regarding the above things..

Its not part of *my* job but we do handle large sums of money.
Cleavage is encouraged, I work with guys and have a *decent rack*, of course its encouraged. There is no respect for sexual harassment laws at my place of employment.

I'll give a whopping clue...shall I?

Someone else here is in the same industry and *part* of my job is their job.

If you use the 6 degrees of separation (alot less though) the industry I work in has been mentioned :D

You probably wont guess my actual job.

DucksNuts 11-25-2006 02:11 AM

Oh we have the same X tho LJ, ours is definately a duhdoh! noise, although Family Feud has only just came back on with ole moonface.

lumberjim 11-25-2006 07:47 AM

Griff 11-25-2006 07:51 AM

I think ours may be the same as the Australian (Family Fortunes for us btw) but I'd write it as Bwah-BWAAAAAAAH. And although it's electronic it does have seriously mocking undertones.

Ah! You build airplanes for Boeing! Why didn't you say so? ;)

Undertoad 11-25-2006 09:27 AM

No, she works in an automobile dealership!

lumberjim 11-25-2006 10:40 AM

oh, that makes all KINDS of sense.

wolf 11-25-2006 01:33 PM

Especially the parts about drinking and cleavage.

DucksNuts 11-25-2006 03:57 PM

:D yay UT!!!!

Spot on, I told you some of my previous comments would make sense when you knew where I worked.

I am Business Manager at a New/Used Car Dealership and I write Finance ;)

lumberjim 11-25-2006 04:02 PM

the cleaveage close! a distinct advantage, indeed. the porn addict finance manager. my partner has many of our buyers on his porn email list. gets deals bought that shouldn't get bought because of his raport with them, too.

zippyt 11-25-2006 04:25 PM

So you SELL cars just like LJ ??? ;)

Whod'a thunk it !!!

"Buy this SUV, and your wife will never need to know about Backdoor Babes Vol. XLVII!"

DucksNuts 11-25-2006 07:45 PM

The Porn addict is the business owner, he sells and writes, I run the show... Mechanics, Salesteam, Admin team etc.

I'm only exploited if its thought I will have more luck with the customer. I prefer to do finance and the other stuff....I dont like selling cars.

Our more open minded customers (we have alot of repeat business) are always subjected to the latest and grossest porn emails.

lumberjim 11-25-2006 08:33 PM

you make it sound like a small operation. what type of shingle hangs out front? ( i wonder if car jargon translates?) ....that is....what make of new car franchise is it? how long have you been in the car business?

whyinthehell haven't you told us that you're a scumbag like me?

DucksNuts 11-26-2006 12:22 AM

Its not huge, but its successful.

"Shingle"?? dont use it over here, but we are Ssangyong and Suzuki with around 80 used cars.

Odd ball stuff which suits our area.

Thats why we are the #4 seller of Ssangyong Australia wide and #8 in Suzuki (which we only started selling this year).

I didnt mention it previously, because my co-workers can be the epitome of sleazy car dudes (but they are stand up guys) and I knew alot of my little stories would have people going "uhuh, see, sleazy car salesmen".

I was interested when reading yours and lookouts exchange regarding fluff.

*edit - I have been in the retail industry for 5 years, before that I used to work for a V8 Supercar team (NASCAR equivalent) and I was also a *pit bitch* for a few years :)...sooo I have been in the automotive industry for about 10 years I guess.

Oh good, a straight shooting source...or so I hope.

What's the skinny on the SX4? Selene's boss, if he ever gets off his duff, is supposed to buy her one as a company car soon. We test drove one, and really liked it a lot. The Grand Vitaras had very nice pricing, considerably lower than the new SX4, and with bigger engines, more room and more bells and whistles...but much lower fuel economy for a comparable 4x4.

So...what's the insider's view on the SX4? Be honest...after all, we won't be buying it from you anyway.

DucksNuts 11-28-2006 04:12 PM

Meh - I'm not a whole lot of help there, but I can find out.

The SX4 wont be released here until 2007 :( but we had a dealer conference earlier this year and there has been nothing but rave reviews on the SX4.

Suzukis on the whole are fantastic (have always thought that even before we started selling them).

I jumped on the dealer portal and there have been no negatives with the SX4 but if you have any specifics 'spode I am happy to research them for you.

I will give you honest answers.

Elspode 11-29-2006 10:22 AM

Early reliability stats would be cool.
