Rumsfeld to fall on his sword
You heard it hear first.
I get the sense that the President with accept his resignation with public regret and private relief. This will give the President cover for his remarks that he'll keep him on. |
Rats? Sinking ship?

Great minds... |
Actually, I think BigV is right on. Rummy was probably shown the door. A large number of voters cited dissatisfaction with Iraq in their considerations yesterday. Lopping off Donny Boy's head is a token giveashit from Bush to The Masses. Rummy is just being a team player by taking it without whining. So far.
Wait for the book. There's always a book. |
It couldn't have happened to a better guy.
|
No, I don't think so.
I think the cumulative result of our efforts in Iraq have produced many things, some good, some bad, but the balance is more bad than good. I'm not interested (in this post) in writing the ledger books, but now GWB can show his "goodwill". |

I like this election outcome.
Now lets see who takes up the reigns. Dont you think there are some R candidates that wish this resignation would have happened last week?! thanks Karl! |
Well if he really wants to impress me he'll need to fall on my sword.
|
Not that there's anything wrong with that...
You really crack me up. :P |
Was the writing on the wall?
You betcha. Will there be writing in a book? You can count on it! |
So here's what I'm confused on:
did he resign, or was he let go? Or was it, "Well, I've been canned, so it looks better to say I did it myself"? |

Rumsfeld offered his resignation several times, in case the White House determined that his head on a platter would solve a particular situation, but ultra-loyalist Bush didn't accept it.

Nancy Pelosi made her statement suggesting this very thing an hour or so before the announcement was made by the White House. I wonder if she'll get any credit. |
If it seems like a positive step to the voters, and Bush painted it as a positive step to Iraq because sometimes it helps to get fresh eyes on a situation... why not make it three months ago?
Wednesday was the first day of the 2008 election season. And, in order to have a chance at winning in 2008, it is not so bad to lose 2006. I predict the relief valves will open, moderation will win out, we will return to 50-50 land in 12-18 months. |

He better get an early start, nobody ever heard of him.

Vilsack? People don't want to vote for a guy with a weird name!
|
rumsfeld along with every other white house type serves at the pleasure of the president. basically the day they get the job they prepare a resignation letter and just wait for the president to pull it out of the drawer.
|
Yes, no tenure for flunkies. Maybe that's why so many of them spend their time securing their future elsewhere, while they are supposed to be working for us.
Probably surfin' the web, too.:D |
