October 5, 2006: Record 100 lb. burger
http://cellar.org/2006/recordburger2.JPG
Here at IotD we shall never pass up a record burger, so when Neatorama picked this one up it also went straight into the IotD queue. As longtimers know, Denny's Beer Barrel Pub in PA is the usual record holder; shown below is their 50-pounder. http://cellar.org/2006/50pound.jpg New entrant Bob's BBQ, featuring "Taste as big as Texas!", is located in Thailand. This just doesn't seem right somehow, and I for one urge Denny to reach beyond his grasp and build once again the world's largest burger. This record simply can't happen outside the states. It's just not right. http://cellar.org/2006/portburger.jpg This Portugese entrant, weighing in at 50kg, was noticed by a Neato commenter. But look at it! Poor quality! Mostly non-meat! I laugh at this mockery of a burger! IotDers will also recall the 100-patty In-n-Out burger. Glorious! |
What tracks are on that burger, anyway? Must be a bitch to put on a turntable...
|
As for the first pic, all I can say is "open wider, honey"
|
I, too, agree that this is a record that the United States must, nay, will hold! Get on it, you loafers, and make me a damn burger!
|
I'm also going to be LJ to it and say the Portugese entrant looks like---
---bukkake. |
I'm pretty sure slang could finish that, but no condiments.
|
How many Ethiopians would that feed for a week I wonder?
Pointless stunts like this really piss me off. What does it achieve? |
That last burger merely looks like a McDonalds burger.
Blechh. |

I kid! |
Thank god they had the decency to put the gherkins on top and not in the centre of the burger, it would be a real pain in the rear end to dismantle the burger to remove them. But personally I like gherkins on my McDonalds burgers. :)

Probably not much differently than it'd feel about a 1/4 lb. hamburger.

Are you implying they made this grotesque burger merely because 'it was there'? |

Well my 2 cents worth, I Bob, owner of the Bob's BBQ & Grill which produced this world record burger am from Houston Texas. If you read the history of this burger on our website it tells about the reasons we did this "I wanted to bring the record to where it belongs, Texas. I still consider myself a Texan and proud of it. Everything is bigger in Texas. I did open the restaurant to provide some good BBQ here in Thailand but still maintain residence in the USA. I must say Denny was the first and I congradulate him on his acheivments but the bigger his burgers have got the more awful they look. It is a fact that the burger above in the picture from Denny's would not qualify for the record and is why he never got it to beat Fuddruckers. Guinness regulations state that the burger has to resemble a real scaled up burger with a top and bottom bun. Also it can not be made up of multiple pieces put together like meat and bun. Just look at the difference between our burger and Denny's There is no comparison. By the way why can't it come from Thailand? After all it is the WORLD record. I can assure you the burger was completely eaten by the children of the Bann Jing Jai Orphanage. And we have sold 2 more for large parties. Please visit the pictures page. I will not post any links as not to upset the mods on my first post but I'm sure you can find it with the above link to our site. |
So the point was to whore your fast food joint. Your pride is misplaced if you feel this is the image you want the rest of the world to associate with America (sorry Texas)
Even more pointless then IMO. P.S. Why are you trying to sell that crap in Thailand? Thai food has provided some the most sublime and sensual culinary ideas to the world, why try and compete with this stodge? EDIT : to add image seeing as it's an IotD thread ;-) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v8...ap/fatkids.jpg |
Before you go calling it crap, I think we should get the opinion of the orphans of Bann Jing Jai.
And welcome, TucsonTom! |

And for the PS you answered your own question. For the same reasons that Thai Food has made it's impact around the world we are doing the same in Thailand. Not so much with the big burger but in general with authenic American cusine and slow smoked BBQ. We were the second restaurant of our kind to open in the entire country of Thailand. I love Thai food so, I'm sorry but I don't see your point. Just as you may like Thai food, many Thai's here like the American food. Someone brought the Thai food to America and someone had to bring it to Thailand. And yes the burger was actually quite tasty, far from your incinuations. |

The poor local orphan angle doesn't wash with me I'm afraid, it smacks of conscience cleansing. Quote:

Ah sprog, you didn't grow up with a clown selling you these things but have a bit of fun with your food. The orphans ate it, that's good enough for me.
The image gallery is here Well done Bob exporting the idea of burgers to the world. I take back the statement that the record has to be an American one. I would like to visit your place sometime. (Of course I would also like to visit Denny's and he is only 5 hours drive away so it's possible.) |

Pennywise! You've come back to me! :heartpump:

Well I for one am glad that good ol' Texas BBQ is being exported, and not that east coast vinegar crap! :)

Hey, welcome to the Cellar TucsonTom. :D
Is there a Tucson Texas? Are you a transplant? Or just liked the ring of the name for your restaurant? Hamburgers have become the symbolic of fast food chains and the country polarized over whether they are a convenience or the devil's spawn. Bill Cosby does a great bit about the neighbor kids going to McDonald's and he had to settle for one of Mom's burgers. People that are down on burgers don't see them as a nutritious meal of burger(meat), bun(potatoes/starch), salad(tomato, onion, lettuce, pickle) with dressing(special sauce). I think the trouble is fries, shakes, onion rings, desserts, huge multi-burger concoctions, are tempting. But the problem is, peoples inability to understand the danger of, and resist, stuffing their faces. Gets off soapbox Quote:
btw, I hope the flooding hasn't caught up with you. I saw a bunch of pictures of Chantaburi and even moving the elephants at Ayutthaya. |
Quote:
No flooding here but it has been up in the northern part of Thailand. |
Glad you're dry.
Some of the Cellar members travel through Thailand once in a while, maybe one of them will stop and say, Howdy. In the mean time, you're a member now so don't forget to check in when you can. :thumb2: |
