7/15/2006: Rainbow and lightning

http://cellar.org/2006/lightningrainbow.jpg

Two natural items you don't normally see together - is this an IotD theme? (Ref. yesterday's horses and foal, that is...)

Axlrosen finds these beauts, via the British Daily Mail, although the skies pictured are those of Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Sadly the Mail only offers one of the three shots in larger resolution. It would be great to see the really full-resoution versions.

This is really awesome!
And very rare, indeed. How many chances does one get to see this in person? Let alone have the opportunity to photograph it. I'm saving these shots. Thanks!

BigV 07-15-2006 01:35 PM

For me, photographing lightning is astonishingly difficult. I'm batting zero. The extra rainbow in these beautiful pictures is just showing off. Exquisite find, axlrosen.

xoxoxoBruce 07-15-2006 02:13 PM

Wow, they're beautiful.
I've been collecting lightning images for about 3 years. Not taking them, just collecting other peoples efforts.
That is only the second I've seen....below is the first.

capnhowdy 07-15-2006 02:49 PM

saved that one too.

BigV.... I've tried for years. To no avail.

Elspode 07-15-2006 03:39 PM

The coloration of the sky is quite similar in Bruce's and Axl's shots. Must be some rather narrowly similar conditions that allow this to be seen. That, and a similar viewing placement, since rainbow are dependant upon the placement of rain, sun and viewer being just so.
