Longtime lurker, brand new member. Be gentle.
I just wanted to introduce myself, I've been a longtime lurker and wanted to join in. I belong to several other topic-specific forums, and felt that The Cellar would give me a bit of reality with that touch of abnormality I crave.
Hello everyone! :female: |
Reality? Here? I fear you'll be quite disappointed.
|
Hi Hoofie! Welcome to the Cellar!
|
Abnormality is done well here :)
Welcome HH!! |
Welcome :)
|
Well, you have certainly found yourself a horse of a different color. I hope you enjoy the ride! :fingerx:
|
Welcome to the Cellar, Hoof :D
Living in GA / seeking reality.....works for me. What year 'vette? |
Thank you everyone for the welcome.
My CA girlfriend directed me here to view an Image of the Day and I kept coming back, I was drawn to the 'conversations', witty atmosphere and general good comraderie. Decided just last night to join...I think it was when I finally found a "great" user name to join with. I laugh every time I say it out loud; Hoof Hearted. :D Husband and I grew up in California, he in northern and I in the central farming valley. We lived in WA state (high desert, not the rainy side) for two years and moved here to GA 5 years ago following his career in the Power Industry. (Thanks Enron. Plllbbbttt!) My 'vette is the 78 Silver Anniversary. Hubby bought it over 15 years ago and gave it to me 11 years ago. He gave away MY car (an Olds) without telling me, and to put out my fire, he signed the 'vette into my name. What a trade, huh? :D Anyway, I drive it daily except for heavy rain or any snow/ice and it has nearly 250k miles on it. We (hubby and I) rebuilt the engine two years ago so we have near 300hp and about 350ftlbs torque. I love low end torque! Don't like to speed, but I want to get up to the speed limit ASAP with that set-you-back-in-the-seat feeling. Plus, it is just a sweet looking car! HH http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...iltcropped.jpg |
Dayum, girl, if that thing's gone in the morning... well, dont be too suprised.
|
Hi and welcome!
I see three things we have in common, so far. We're both women, you live in GA and I used to live in GA. And you and I both have a Silver Anniversary 'vette. Here's mine: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y10...tte2_small.jpg 'Tis my baby!! I had an accident in it and haven't been able to repair the fiberglass and electrical as needed to put it back on the road. Man I miss her. Stormie |
Where's my beautiful car?
|
I'll steal you one too, honey.
|
Stormie, your 78 looks HOT! with the ground effects kit! I want to put an LT spoiler on the back. Waiting for the $...I think I'll be waiting a while. Isn't it amazing the amount of things you have to spend your (husband's) money on FIRST before you can think of getting the things you want?
I think I see the damage on the pass fender? What elec problems did you encounter? Ibram, when my car goes missing, I'll be on the eleventh floor looking below to catch you cruisin' in my baby! ;) We love Georgia. The people, the weather and especially (for me) the fireflies. First time I saw a bunch at night in the woods, I froze and almost panicked. I thought they were eye reflections of possums and racoons and that we were surrounded and about to be attacked...until Kenny commented about the 'fireflies'. Almost had to change my panties. (and 'Hoof Hearted' would have been 'Hey!-where-did-all-this-crap-come-from?') HH |
Hello Hoof from the ATL.
Jeez. Women with Vettes. Hard not to look twice when you see that. It seems there are several people from GA in this cellar. Again, welcome. |

I was such a book-wormie nerd in HS. Hubby was a typical football jock. I find it hilarious that we wound up married! I must admit to a perverse pleasure in driving the 'vette and flirting with other drivers. Does that make me a bitch? Or just a little fuel for someones fantasies? HH |
Welcome, HH. Yet another Georgian. Glad to see you.

Welcome. I think that makes THREE women with 'vettes...doesn'tr Susan have one too?
|
I moderate at a (family-friendly) Corvette website and I am amazed at the growing number of women joining with their vettes. I think it's great.

Welcome Hoof.
Two questions and this isn't the "quiz" 1) Hoof Hearted? Do you prefer Krylon or Hammerite? 2) Snow and Ice in Georgia? I was born in Atlanta and can't for the life of me remember any snow or ice. Carry on, smoke 'em if you got 'em. |
Krylon paint? I am not familiar with hammerite. ...am I setting myself up for a huge joke...?
Snow/Ice in Georgia? You bet! 2005. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...e/78ice05d.jpg |

I suppose I should clarify about 'flirting'. I'll stop and talk with anyone who asks (in daylight, very public or well lit parking lots) about the 'vette. Most are men, some are children with parents. I flirt a bit while driving, but I never initiate it. Usually I just smile and nod at whomever waves or ogles, I am never rude or unfriendly towards unasked for attention. hh |

A "hoofer" is street slang for a paint sniffer. I have been told that the metallic colors were more sought after since they needed more propellant. Bad joke, and not huge to boot. |
I always thought a "hoofer" was a dancer and paint sniffers were 'huffers'.
Hoof Hearted was the name of a Thoroughbred race horse. I like the sound of it when you say it fast. :D I always loved when owners tried to name their horses in a manner to trip up or tongue tie the announcer. Example: (read it quickly and out loud) And coming through the middle of the pack around the far turn is Hoof Hearted! Make My Day is still in the lead with Roses Are Red hot on his heels. And making his move is Hoof Hearted! And down the stretch they come! Make My Day has fallen to second place as Roses Are Red makes his bid for the win, but Hoof Hearted is making up for lost time! Hoof Hearted has passed Make My Day and is battling with Roses Are Red for the lead! Hoof Hearted! Roses Are Red! Hoof Hearted! It's going to be a photo finish, folks! That photo was of an ice storm. We've been in GA for five years and it has snowed probably 4 times, never more than 4", and it never 'stays'. The ice was bad, it was well over an inch thick on the roads. What makes ice/snow so bad is that people down here don't know how to drive in it and they become more dangerous than usual. |

Welcome, HH. And for what its worth...I thought you were a horse lover. I didn't get the joke on the handle until you explained it. And another brain cell bites the dust... |

LOL horses are definitely an addiction. When I met one of my best friends (about 8-9 years ago) she had one. Now she has several and is part owner of a saddle shop.
|
Beautiful. And the horse is pretty too.
The rare name I chose for my company turned out to be the name of a race horse. |
Well trained too....no bridle. :thumb:
|
umm... do you always prefer uhh... bareback?
|
I grew up in GA about 15-20 miles from the NC line. I've had so many people ask me if I've ever seen snow  . If they only knew... Many were the times the school bus could not navigate the roads due to snow. Like HH says, it was never more than 4-6" and usually was gone with a day or so, but north GA is quite mountainous (Smoky Mountains) so travel became hazardous. Our driveway was 3/4 a mile long, all switchbacks to the top of a hill where our house was perched. Many times after some ice or snow, we had to park the car at the bottom near the highway and lug the groceries or whatever up the drive by ourselves.
Oh my, horses! Beautiful pictures HH! It is yet another similarity between us. My sister and I had first ponies, then horses, during the time we were growing up in GA. She currently lives in South Texas and has several of her own, but I am now an urban dweller and horses are something I see on TV or in parades. :sniff: . Were you in a Ren Faire or Pageant in the 2003 picture? You look so...elegant and ethereal. Stormie |
Bruce, the horse *has* a bridle. Or were you talking about HH? :p
|
Snow In GA
We've got this weatherman in Hotlanta named Glen Burns. No matter how much snow he predicts, his wife still gets one to two inches each night.:p

Something that didn't occur to me until xoB's post is the fact that both horses are bitless. Perhaps that is what he meant. Quote:
I have been to a few Ren Faires in California as a spectator, but none here in GA. That photo was my attempt at Lady Godiva (though much more modest) and I had a friend come photograph us. We got some very nice photos and I used that one for my Xmas card. The dress is my evening gown from our family 7-day cruise to Mexico. Couldn't let the dress go to waste in my closet now, could I? ;) As to riding bareback being my preference? Yes. Call me lazy, but it was quicker to just carry a bridle out to catch the horse and then hop on and go. I do have several saddles, but I'd say that 99% of my riding is done bareback. Saddles feel funny to me, I feel like I can't 'feel' what the horse is up to and I have a better ride when riding bareback as I feel more a part of the horse, rather than sitting on top of the horse in a saddle. I have a 3yo who is going away to school today or tomorrow. This is Q: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...lvAnniv/nn.jpg |
Absolutely beautiful.

That takes a horse well trained to neck rein. |
The bridle in the first picture is a Bosal, a fairly common Western headstall. The bridle in the second picture is a Paso Fino Jaquima. I don't think this is very common except within the PF breed, but I really like the headstall as the chin-piece has two rings to connect the reins to, instead of one spot at the center/lowest point.
The first horse is trained to neck rein while the second is plow-reined (direct-reined). As I ride with both hands on the reins, I direct rein the direction I want to go and I also lay the opposite rein against the neck to reinforce the request. Sort of like a combo of the two techniques. hh |
Cool, thank you. Good thing the 'vette only takes one hand to steer or you couldn't wave. :D

It did allow me to make a naughty joke, though, so my faux pas wasn't entirely wasted. |
I had horses (4-H), until I left home.

Hey Hoof Hearted, I love your crimson dress. I wish I had one like it.
